Stitch is one of the kindest characters to make at home, because he's really just a colour scheme with ears. Bright blue, a pale belly, huge pink-lined ears, a dark navy nose and that mischievous grin carry the whole character, so a hoodie, fleece pajamas, a dress or a tutu can all become him. I've built the looks below around pieces most people already own, plus a few felt and foam details you can cut at the kitchen table. There are versions for adults, kids, babies, couples, families, plus size wearers and dogs, sewn from scratch or pulled straight from the closet.

Making Stitch Ears That Don't Flop by Nine O'Clock
The ears are what make a blue hoodie into Stitch, and they're the part that fails first. Felt alone is too soft for something that big. By the end of the evening, a felt-only ear folds over at the base and hangs. Here's how I make a pair that stays up.
- Draw one ear on paper, long and wide with a notch near the tip, and check it against your head in a mirror. His ears are huge, so go bigger than feels right.
- Cut two blue felt pieces and one slightly smaller pink piece for each ear, plus a core of 2 mm craft foam or stiff fusible interfacing cut a little smaller than the blue.
- Sandwich the foam between the two blue layers and glue or topstitch around the edge. Then fix the pink centre to the front.
- Leave a tab of foam and felt at the base. That tab goes into the hood seam or wraps around a headband, and it's what carries the weight.
- Stitch the tab on with strong thread through the seam, or glue it and add a few stitches over the top. Glue alone peels off fleece.
If they still tip outward, run a pipe cleaner along the inside edge of each ear before you close it, and bend the ends over so no wire pokes out. For young children, skip the wire and keep the ears shorter; a smaller ear that stays up looks better than a big one that droops.
1. Classic Stitch Hoodie Costume

If you only make one Stitch, make this one. A blue hoodie and matching joggers are the base; the big blue felt ears with pink centres go on the hood, with felt eyes, a navy nose and small white teeth along the hood edge. A pale blue oval on the front is the belly, and navy patches on the back and sleeves add his markings. I sew the ears on with a few stitches through the hood seam, because that seam is the strongest spot on the hood. Blue sneakers outdoors, fuzzy slippers inside. Soft blue makeup, a dark nose tip and brushed-up brows give the face, and light blue gloves with felt claws finish it.
2. Stitch Fleece Onesie Costume

On a cold evening, a fleece onesie is the warmest Stitch you can wear. Choose a loose blue jumpsuit with a pale belly panel, attached tail and roomy hood. Sandwich thin foam between two layers of felt for the ears so they stay upright; felt on its own flops by the end of the first street. A navy nose, wide eyes and a row of rounded felt teeth give you the character. Tuck your hair into a low bun or under the hood so the face shows. Blue shadow at the temples, a little pink blush, navy paw gloves and cushioned slippers or sneakers. A onesie zip that runs to the crotch makes bathroom trips far easier, so check before you buy.
3. DIY Stitch Sweatshirt Costume

A plain blue sweatshirt becomes a proper Stitch with felt, fabric glue and sharp scissors. Wear it with blue sweatpants, leggings or jeans in a close shade. Cut a large light blue belly oval and fix it to the front, then add eyes, a dark nose, pink-lined ears and a few soft felt teeth to the hood. No hood? Put the ears on a wide blue headband. Paint the nose tip navy and sweep blue shadow around the outer eyes. Blue mittens with small white felt claws and comfortable sneakers finish him. Removable fabric tape means the sweatshirt goes back to normal on November 1, though tape lets go faster than glue if you're rough with it.
4. Stitch Tutu Costume

A tutu adds swing and a playful outline while keeping his blue palette. Start with a fitted blue T-shirt or bodysuit with a light blue felt belly. The layered tutu mixes royal blue and turquoise tulle with a little navy, over opaque blue leggings. A headband with oversized pink-lined ears and a tiny dark nose between them sits on top. Blue shadow, pink cheeks and a painted navy nose make the face. Paw gloves, a detachable blue tail and glittery blue sneakers or ballet flats finish it. If you make the tutu, tie the tulle strips onto wide elastic; a narrow band rolls and digs in after an hour. It's best for parties, school events and indoor celebrations.
5. Stitch Skater Dress Costume

For a one-piece version, start with a bright blue skater dress. Short or long sleeves both work. A pale blue oval runs from chest to waist, and navy patches near the shoulders or sides suggest his markings. A wide headband holds big foam-backed ears, and a slim detachable tail stays out of the way. Ponytail, braids or a smooth bun all sit neatly under the headband. Blue liner, a navy nose tip and soft pink blush keep the makeup playful. Blue tights, paw-style wrist cuffs and supportive ankle boots or sneakers finish it. On a stretchy dress I'd stitch the belly on with a zigzag; glue cracks when the knit stretches.
6. Glam Stitch Sequin Costume

The glam version is built on a blue sequin dress, or a sequin top and skirt. Keep the shape comfortable for a party, then add a smooth light blue belly panel that stands out against all that shine. A crystal-trimmed ear headband with pink centres and a small navy nose accent goes on top. Shimmering blue shadow, winged liner and pink blush finish the face without covering your own skin tone. Add a glittery tail, fitted paw gloves and a small alien-themed bag, with blue block heels, boots or jewelled sneakers depending on the venue. Don't try to glue onto sequins; nothing holds. Hand-stitch the belly panel to the dress between the sequins instead.
7. Cozy Stitch Pajama Costume

For a relaxed party or a movie night, matching blue pajamas make a soft Stitch. Choose flannel, fleece or brushed cotton with a button-front top and full-length pants. A pale blue belly patch goes on the shirt, and an oversized ear headband sits above loose waves or a casual ponytail. Clip a tail to the waistband and wear soft mittens as paws. Blue shadow at the outer corners, rosy cheeks and a small navy nose are comfortable makeup. Fuzzy blue socks and slip-resistant slippers go on the feet. A small plush or a blue pillow is the prop. Buttons fall right where the belly patch goes, so I attach it to one side of the placket only.
8. Sporty Stitch Costume

Sporty Stitch is the cool-down version for active events. Layer a blue jersey over a pale blue fitted shirt, so the lighter colour reads as his belly, with matching shorts and comfortable sneakers. Royal blue leggings underneath add warmth or coverage. Fit big pink-lined ears to a blue baseball cap, or use a headband if the cap feels bulky; ears on a cap need a little hot glue plus two stitches through the crown to stay put. Navy on the nose and quick blue liner are practical. Fingerless paw gloves, striped athletic socks and a foam ball decorated with alien markings finish it. It's breathable and easy to move in.
9. Stitch Streetwear Costume

Streetwear Stitch uses pieces you'll happily wear again. Start with an oversized cobalt hoodie, loose blue cargo pants and chunky white and blue sneakers. A pale blue chest panel goes on with removable fabric tape, and a stuffed tail clips to the back waistband. Big pink-lined ears go on a blue beanie or padded headband. Sleek hair or two low braids keep the ears in focus. Graphic blue liner and a softly painted navy nose are enough makeup. Fingerless paw gloves, a compact crossbody bag and silver alien charms finish it. Clip the tail through a belt loop, not just the waistband, or it drags the pants down.
10. Stitch Overalls Costume

Overalls make a cute everyday base that looks different from the usual jumpsuit. Wear blue overalls over a pale blue long-sleeve shirt, with navy felt patches on the knees and back pockets. A removable belly oval can sit on the bib if you want a stronger reference. A blue hood or beanie with tall pink-lined ears and a small tuft of faux fur on top gives his head. Navy liner at the outer eyes, pink blush and a painted blue nose. Paw gloves and a plush clip-on tail add depth. Roll the cuffs and add blue striped socks and sturdy sneakers. Denim takes fabric glue well, much better than fleece does.
11. Summer Stitch Shorts Costume

Warm weather calls for the T-shirt and shorts version. Choose a relaxed cotton tee with a light blue belly patch, and shorts at whatever length suits you, from high-waisted to bike shorts to Bermudas. An ear headband, small detachable tail and light fingerless paw gloves are all you add. Space buns, a high ponytail or braids keep hair off your neck. A navy nose, blue shadow and pink cheeks are quick makeup, but in heat I'd set them with translucent powder, since cream paint slides on a warm face. Blue crew socks and supportive sneakers go on the feet. A small camera or tropical-print tote is a cheerful extra.
12. Winter Stitch Costume

Outdoors in the cold, build Stitch on a blue puffer jacket, fleece-lined leggings and insulated boots. Removable felt eyes, a navy nose and large foam-backed ears go on the jacket hood. A light blue scarf stands in for his belly and keeps your neck warm. Blue mittens with soft white felt claws and a stuffed tail clipped under the coat finish the body. Keep makeup minimal: waterproof blue liner, rosy blush and a navy nose tip. A blue knit hat fits under the hood if it gets colder. Puffer fabric is slippery, so safety pins from the inside hold felt better than any tape.
13. Rainy Day Stitch Costume

If it's going to rain, make the rain gear the costume. A blue raincoat, waterproof pants and bright blue rain boots are the base. Vinyl or felt ears with pink centres go on the coat hood, with removable eyes and a dark blue nose above the opening; attach every piece firmly, because wet felt gets heavy. A pale blue sweater under the open coat shows the belly colour. Waterproof blue gloves become paws with small rounded felt claws. Braids or a low bun keep hair tidy, and water-resistant blue liner plus a navy nose tip survive the drizzle. A clear umbrella with removable blue spots lets people see the whole costume.
14. Last-Minute Stitch Costume

Short on time? Blue closet basics are enough. Pair any blue sweatshirt or sweater with matching leggings, joggers or jeans. Cut big ears from blue cardstock, colour the centres pink and staple or tape them to a sturdy headband. A light blue paper or felt oval is the belly, held on with fashion tape. Paint the nose dark blue and add blue liner at the outer corners. Blue winter gloves are the paws, and white adhesive felt triangles make small claws. Blue sneakers and a rolled blue sock safety-pinned at the waistband as a tail finish it. Cardstock ears bend in the rain, so this one is for indoors.
15. No-Sew Stitch Felt Costume

The no-sew version suits anyone happier with glue and tape than a needle. Start with a matching blue hoodie and jogger set. Cut the belly, eyes, nose, back markings, ears and soft teeth from coloured felt, and attach them with removable fabric adhesive or hook-and-loop dots if you want the clothes back afterwards. Thin craft foam between the ear layers stops them drooping. Tuck your hair into the hood or wear it low. Blue shadow, pink blush and a navy nose give the face. Blue mittens, felt claws, a stuffed tail and slip-on sneakers finish it. Press glued felt under a pile of books overnight; it bonds far better than glue that dries untouched.
16. Plus-Size Stitch Costume

For a plus size Stitch, I'd choose stretchy fabric and secure details over anything stiff. A blue knit dress, roomy jumpsuit or stretchy sweatshirt set all work. Size the belly panel to your body; a small patch disappears on a larger outfit, and a big oval reads from across the room. A padded ear headband adds the character without dragging on a hood. Wear your hair down, in braids or in a high ponytail between the ears. Blended blue shadow, pink blush and a navy nose tip. Wrist-length paw gloves, a light tail, supportive blue shoes and shorts under a dress if you like. Adjustable pieces let you get the fit right.
17. Men’s Stitch Costume

A men's Stitch doesn't need a bulky mascot suit. Start with a cobalt hoodie, blue joggers or cargo pants and athletic sneakers. Big structured ears go on the hood, plus felt eyes, a navy nose and rounded teeth, with a pale blue belly on the front and navy markings on the back. Keep the face simple: blue shading at the temples and a small dark blue nose. Oversized paw gloves and a flexible tail finish him. I fix the tail to a belt, not straight to the pants, so it doesn't pull them down when you sit. A relaxed fit moves easily, and thermals underneath make it workable for cold outdoor events.
18. Teen Stitch Costume

Teens usually want Stitch to look current, not babyish. An oversized blue zip hoodie over a fitted tee, with cargo pants and platform sneakers, does that. Put the pale belly panel on the tee so the hoodie can stay open. Ear headbands look older when they're made from smooth fabric over clean foam, without fuzzy edges. Style the hair in a high ponytail, soft waves, braids or space buns around the ears. Graphic blue liner, a little shimmer, pink blush and a navy nose tip photograph well. Fingerless paw gloves, a removable tail and a compact blue backpack finish it. It suits school events and casual parties.
19. Kids’ Stitch Costume

For kids, I build Stitch so it stays put while they run, sit and play. A blue hooded sweatshirt and elastic-waist pants are the base. Sew or glue a light blue belly oval to the front and add soft felt markings on the back. Hood ears should be light and rounded, with no wire ends or sharp craft pieces anywhere. Makeup can be just a navy nose and two blue cheek dots; test any face paint on the inside of the wrist a day ahead. Soft paw mittens should come off easily so they can hold treats. A short stuffed tail avoids tripping, blue sneakers beat loose slippers, and reflective tape on the sleeves helps after dark.
20. Toddler Stitch Costume

For toddlers, start with a blue fleece romper, footless pajamas or a hooded tracksuit. Stitch every felt piece securely, belly, eyes, nose and pink-lined ears alike, and leave off small decorations that could come loose and end up in a mouth. Keep the tail short, padded and above sitting height so the stroller and car seat stay comfortable. Makeup is optional; a tiny washable nose dot is plenty. A light hood frames the face without covering eyes or ears. Soft blue mittens that come off fast and flexible nonslip shoes help with walking. Layer a cotton shirt underneath, so the fleece can come off when they overheat indoors.
21. Baby Stitch Costume

For babies, build it on a soft blue bodysuit or a zip-front sleeper. Choose breathable fabric and stitch the pale belly panel on flat, so there's no ridge to lie on. The hood can carry small padded ears, embroidered eyes and a soft nose, but it must never fall over the baby's face. No face paint; the outfit tells the story. Blue socks or flexible booties are better than structured shoes. A tiny stuffed tail sits high so it doesn't press when the baby lies down. Everything should be secure and washable. For photos, lay the baby on a bright blanket with a soft plush, and stay right beside them.
22. Maternity Stitch Costume

Stitch's round belly is made for a maternity costume. Start with a stretchy blue maternity dress, tunic or jumpsuit and place a large pale blue oval over the bump. Use removable adhesive or a few loose stitches, never anything stiff that fights the stretch. A cropped blue cardigan adds warmth without hiding the belly. A light ear headband is more comfortable than a heavy hood, with your hair in a low ponytail or loose waves. Soft blue shadow, pink blush and a navy nose tip. Paw-shaped wrist cuffs, a light tail, supportive flats or sneakers and a small alien-themed crossbody bag finish it.
23. Lilo And Stitch Couple Costume

Lilo and Stitch are the obvious pair, and both costumes are comfortable. The Stitch wearer has the blue hoodie, joggers, ear hood, paw gloves, tail and blue sneakers, with the light blue belly and navy face details. Lilo wears a knee-length red dress with big white leaf shapes, long dark hair or a wig, and flat sandals. Keep her makeup natural and don't change the wearer's skin tone. A small camera, handmade rag doll or tropical flower clip is her prop. I cut Lilo's leaves from white felt and stitch them on with a running stitch around each edge; fabric paint works too but cracks when the dress is folded. Side by side, the red and blue are clear in any photo.
24. Stitch And Angel Couple Costume

Stitch and Angel are the same alien shape in blue and pink. The Stitch wearer needs a blue jumpsuit or sweatsuit with a light belly panel, large ears, navy nose, paws, tail and sneakers. Angel gets a pink hoodie dress, jumpsuit or separates with a pale pink belly, long pink ears, curved antenna details, purple markings and a slim tail. Both wear coordinating shadow, soft cheek colour and painted nose tips, with matching blue and pink sneakers. Angel's long ears need a stiffer core than Stitch's, so I use heavier foam or a strip of fusible interfacing inside. Make both outfits from the same fabric and the same method, and they look like a set.
25. Best Friend Lilo And Stitch Costume

Best friends can do Lilo and Stitch without any elaborate cosplay. One wears an oversized red shirt dress with white felt leaves, flat sandals, long dark hair and a camera prop. The other wears a blue sweatshirt, leggings, an ear headband, paw gloves, blue sneakers, a light blue belly panel and navy nose makeup. Keep both outfits loose enough to walk and dance. Matching tropical flower clips or small friendship bracelets tie you together without stealing focus. Both looks adapt to the weather; leggings, jackets or undershirts hide under either one.
26. Stitch And Angel Sibling Costume

Siblings can coordinate as Stitch and Angel without wearing identical outfits. One wears a blue hooded set with a pale belly, pink-lined ears, paw mittens, a short tail and sneakers; the other a pink set with a lighter belly, long ears, purple accents and matching comfortable shoes. Washable blue and pink cheek makeup is easier than full-face paint. Plenty of children refuse hoods, so I make the ears on padded headbands from the start and skip the argument. Short, firmly attached tails don't drag during play. Similar outfit shapes link the pair, and the two colours keep each character clear in family photos and parades.
27. Lilo And Stitch Family Costume

A family can each take a different character. One adult wears Stitch's blue hoodie set, ears, paws, tail and sneakers. A child is Lilo in a red leaf-print dress, a dark wig if needed, sandals and a toy camera. Another adult is Nani, in a colourful fitted top, denim shorts or jeans, long dark hair and comfortable sandals. A fourth person can be David in a casual tropical-print shirt, relaxed pants and sneakers. Keep makeup natural and let clothing colours and props carry the characters, not physical traits. Bright tropical colours tie the group together, and everyone ends up in something practical.
28. Stitch Experiment Group Costume

For a group, give each friend a different alien experiment cut from the same comfortable pattern. Stitch is the centre: blue sweats, a light belly, broad ears, paws and a tail. Around him go a pink long-eared alien, a red one with darker accents, a yellow electric-themed one and a green one with rounded details. Everyone wears a matching hoodie or jumpsuit, coordinated face makeup, gloves and sneakers. Foam ears and fabric markings tell the characters apart without heavy masks, and small number patches name each experiment. If one person cuts all the ears from one template, the group looks deliberate rather than thrown together.
29. Dog Stitch Costume

A dog's Stitch costume has to be light, flexible and quick to take off. Start with a blue pet shirt or soft harness cover that leaves the legs, neck and tail free. A pale blue belly panel and navy back markings go on as flat fabric pieces with no stiff edges. Small pink-lined ears go on a soft hood only if your dog already tolerates one; otherwise fix them loosely to the harness, away from the dog's own ears. No makeup at all. Skip paw covers; they change how a dog walks. Use a secure leash and keep an eye on your dog the whole time.
30. Lilo And Stitch Owner And Pet Costume

The owner and pet version puts the detail on the human. You wear Lilo's red dress with white leaf shapes, flat sandals, long dark hair or a wig and a small camera prop. The dog wears a blue harness cover with a pale belly panel and soft back markings, plus light ears only if it accepts headwear calmly. No face paint, paw coverings or long tail on the animal. A blue leash matches and keeps you in control. Because your outfit carries the theme, the dog's stays breathable and simple, which is right for a short, supervised appearance.
31. Vampire Stitch Costume

Vampire Stitch mixes two themes and stays family friendly. Start with a blue hoodie and joggers, the pale belly and the alien ears. Layer a short black and purple cape on top, ending above the ankles so nobody trips. Sew soft white felt fangs onto the hood edge instead of wearing plastic mouthpieces, which most people spit out within the hour. Blue shadow, neat purple liner, pink blush and a navy nose tip make the face. Paw gloves, a blue tail and black high-tops finish it, and a bat-shaped treat bag is the prop. Leave out fake blood and scary details; he should still look cute.
32. Witch Stitch Costume

Witch Stitch pairs the blue alien with friendly Halloween pieces. Wear a blue skater dress or sweatshirt set with a pale belly panel, paw cuffs and a short tail. A small pointed black hat sits between the big pink-lined ears on a wide headband; I sew a small comb into the hat's base so it grips the hair. Purple striped tights and black ankle boots add contrast without hiding his colour. Blend blue and violet shadow, paint the nose navy, add soft pink cheeks. Carry a small decorative broom with rounded ends or a star-patterned treat bag, and add a short purple cape for warmth. Keep it whimsical, with no occult symbols or frightening makeup.
33. Pirate Stitch Costume

Pirate Stitch can be adventurous without toy weapons. Start with blue pants, a pale blue shirt and a cropped navy vest. Stitch ears go on a blue bandana or padded headband, with a soft tail at the back. A striped waist sash, big gold-tone buttons and a small fabric treasure pouch carry the theme. Paint the nose navy and draw blue liner with a playful curved brow. Fingerless paw gloves keep his paws in view. Striped socks and flat brown or navy boots are fine for walking. A bandana slips on smooth hair, so I tie it over two bobby pins. A light cardboard treasure map is a safe prop for photos.
34. Astronaut Stitch Costume

He's an alien, so the astronaut version makes sense. Layer a white utility jumpsuit over a pale blue shirt, with royal blue panels at the shoulders, knees and waist. A blue hood with oversized pink-lined ears replaces a bulky helmet and keeps his face visible. Embroidered-style mission patches, silver trim, paw gloves and a compact foam backpack with no hard edges finish the suit. Metallic blue liner, tiny silver stars near the temples and a navy nose tip. White high-tops or light moon-boot-style footwear go below. A cardboard control tablet or small planet prop is easy to carry. Iron-on patches peel off nylon, so sew them on with a few stitches at each corner.
35. Rock Star Stitch Costume

Rock star Stitch borrows his musical side. Wear a blue jumpsuit, or matching shirt and pants with a pale belly panel, under a bright red high-collared jacket. Light craft gems give the rhinestone look without the weight; heavy glass stones drag a jacket out of shape. A blue ear headband, swept-up hair, paw gloves and a slim tail keep his outline. Bold blue liner, a navy nose, pink cheeks and a touch of silver shimmer make the stage face. White sneakers or ankle boots go below, and a toy ukulele or microphone is the prop. The colours are loud enough for kids and grown-ups to enjoy.
What Glue Holds on Fleece, and What Peels Off
Most of these costumes put felt on fleece or knit, and that's the hardest pairing to keep stuck. Fleece is fuzzy and it stretches, so glue grips the fibres on top, not the fabric itself, and lets go as soon as the hoodie stretches over your shoulders.
- Hot glue is fast but brittle. It holds on cardstock and foam, cracks on a stretchy hoodie and loosens in cold air outdoors.
- Flexible fabric glue holds better on knits, but give it a full day to cure under weight before you wear it.
- Iron-on adhesive sheets work well on cotton sweatshirts. Keep the iron off fleece, which can melt or go shiny.
- Hand stitching beats all of them. A loose running stitch about a finger's width in from the edge of the belly oval takes ten minutes and survives a whole night and the wash.
Blue face paint brings its own problem: it rubs off onto the inside of the hood and stains a pale belly panel. Let the paint dry fully, press translucent powder over it, and keep the hood off your cheeks while you're eating. Wash the hoodie inside out on cool, and the felt pieces will be ready for next year.
Start With the Ears, Then the Belly
A good Stitch is bright details on clothes you can wear for hours. Hoodies, joggers, dresses, pajamas and jumpsuits all make a sound base, and the pale belly, big pink-lined ears, navy nose, paws and tail do the rest. Any of these versions can be adjusted for a warm afternoon, a cold night, a school celebration, a group party, family photos or a dog walk. Use light materials, stitch down anything a child might pull and pick shoes for the walking you'll actually do. Then choose the version that feels most like you, whether that's the cosy onesie or the sequins.
