Bleach gives you an unusually wide range of costumes: plain school uniforms, the classic black Soul Reaper robes, captains' haori, white Arrancar uniforms and the tailored Quincy coats of the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. With a cast that big, there's a character for any gender, body type, budget and sewing level. From where I sit at the sewing machine, what matters is the right colours, a good wig, shoes you can walk in and one or two signature details, and you can leave realistic weapon props out entirely. Many of these start from the same reusable pieces, a black kimono-style top, hakama and a white sash, or from fitted uniforms and thrifted separates, so one build can turn into several characters.

One Black Uniform That Dresses a Dozen Soul Reapers
Count the Soul Reapers below and you'll see the same base again and again: a black wrap-front top, wide hakama and a white sash. Sew or buy that base once, and do it well, and it becomes Ichigo, Rukia, Renji, Rangiku and Nanao, then every captain once a white haori goes on top.
Fabric
I use a matte cotton or poly-cotton twill in a true black. It holds a crisp pleat, breathes, and doesn't flash shiny the way cheap satin does. Wash and dry it before cutting, because cotton shrinks.
The top
The wrap-front top is a simple T shape with a long collar band. Cut the sleeves wide and deep, then sew the white under-collar in as a separate strip so it always shows at the neck in the same place, instead of wearing a white shirt that shifts.
The hakama
Hakama are wide pleated trousers that tie at the waist, traditionally with five pleats at the front and two at the back. Press the pleats hard and edge-stitch them on the inside, or they soften out after the first wash. Hem them to just clear the top of your sandals.
The sash
A long white band wrapped twice and tied works fine. A strip of interfacing inside stops it rolling into a rope by the afternoon.
1. Ichigo Kurosaki Soul Reaper Cosplay

Ichigo is where I'd start anyone new to Bleach, because his Soul Reaper uniform is the base for half this list. A loose black kimono-style top goes over wide black hakama, with a white waist sash and a white under-collar showing at the neck. Pick a matte cotton or poly-cotton for the black; shiny polyester looks cheap under lights and shows every crease. A short spiky orange wig, with the ends shaped in lightweight wax, does most of the identifying. Keep makeup natural, with slightly heavier brows and a little shading around the eyes for his scowl. Black socks and flat straw-style sandals finish the base. Swap the giant sword for a Substitute Soul Reaper badge on the belt, and leave ease through the shoulders and waist so you can move.
2. Rukia Kuchiki Soul Reaper Cosplay

Rukia's classic look is a simple uniform with distinctive hair. Wear a black wrap-front robe over wide hakama, both held with a clean white sash, with a white underlayer just showing at the neckline. Her short black wig needs longer face-framing pieces and that single curved strand between the eyes. I set that strand with a little gel and a low iron on heat-safe fibre so it keeps its curve. Soft matte foundation, thin brows and cool gray liner give her calm expression. Black split-toe socks and straw-style sandals finish it. A handmade Division 13 armband, a small rabbit sketchbook or a white ribbon is a safe prop. Hem the robe so it clears the floor, since a dragging hem collects grime and catches on stairs.
3. Orihime Inoue School Uniform Cosplay

Orihime's school uniform comes almost entirely from everyday clothes. Pair a crisp white short-sleeve blouse with a fitted gray pleated skirt and a deep red ribbon tied at the collar, then tall white socks and brown loafers. The long orange wig with soft layers and side-swept bangs is what sells her, along with the blue flower-shaped clips at her temples. Those clips are small, so I make them slightly larger than accurate; true-to-scale ones vanish against a full orange wig in photos. Peach blush, brown mascara and a soft pink lip keep her cheerful. Carry a light schoolbag, a notebook or a bread-shaped plush, a nod to her famously odd food combinations. Safety shorts under the skirt and cushioned insoles help on a long day.
4. Uryu Ishida Quincy Cosplay

Uryu's Quincy outfit is all about clean white tailoring with cool blue details. Start with a fitted white high-collar jacket with blue piping, silver fasteners and a structured front panel, over straight white pants that let you move. A short black wig with smooth bangs frames the face, and rectangular glasses are his everyday signature. Even foundation, lightly defined brows and subtle cool contour keep him precise. White boots or clean lace-ups continue the white. Skip the bow and wear a blue Quincy cross on the wrist, or carry a blue energy-effect ornament. Piping is easiest bought ready-made and sewn into the seams rather than topstitched on afterwards. Steam everything before you wear it, because wrinkles show far more on white.
5. Yasutora Chad Sado Casual Cosplay

Chad is the comfortable choice, built from recognisable streetwear with no sewing at all. Wear a loose patterned short-sleeve shirt, dark straight-leg jeans and sturdy brown boots, with a fitted dark tee under the open shirt for coverage depending on the version. A shaggy dark brown wig falls over the forehead and partly hides the face. A little bronzer, strong brows and a neutral lip give a grounded, serious look. Add a simple pendant and carry a small stuffed parakeet or a pair of headphones. For his arm, I'd sew a padded patterned sleeve from stretch fabric with a thumb loop so it doesn't creep up. Breathable fabric and flexible boots suit his relaxed stance.
6. Renji Abarai Lieutenant Cosplay

Renji is loud red hair and bold forehead markings. Build the black kimono-style top, wide hakama and white sash, then add the Division 6 lieutenant armband high on one sleeve. Style a long crimson wig into a high ponytail with pointed sections at the hairline. Draw the markings with black water-resistant face paint or temporary cosmetic transfers, testing the product on your inner arm a day ahead. Warm brown eye makeup and defined brows balance the pattern. Black socks, flat sandals and white wrist wraps finish him. A red hair tie, a badge or a stylised baboon plush stands in for his blade. A long wig ponytail is heavy and drags backward, so anchor it with pins through the wig into flat pin curls of your own hair.
7. Byakuya Kuchiki Captain Cosplay

Byakuya is formal and aristocratic, layered in black and white. Start with the standard black Soul Reaper uniform and add a sleeveless white captain's haori with the Division 6 emblem painted or appliquéd on the back. His wide white scarf drapes around the neck and falls evenly down the front; I'd choose a soft, heavy fabric so it hangs instead of twisting. A long black wig with a centre part takes white hairpieces across the top and side. Smooth foundation, straight brows, subtle contour and a muted rose lip give his composure. Black socks and straw-style sandals complete the base. Carry pale pink petals in a clear pouch or a small clan emblem. Lightweight foam hairpieces sit far more comfortably than heavy cast ones.
8. Toshiro Hitsugaya Captain Cosplay

Toshiro shows how much colour changes the same captain's uniform. A black wrap-front robe and hakama go under a white sleeveless haori, with a white sash, black split-toe socks and flat sandals. The defining element is a short, sharply spiked white wig, styled upward with controlled texture rather than big volume. White wigs show every bit of grubbiness, so I keep this one on a wig head under a cover until the day. Pale matte foundation and cool gray shading around the eyes; wear turquoise contact lenses only if they're professionally fitted and comfortable. A blue crystal pin, snowflake charm or translucent ice-effect ornament is the prop. Add the green sash across the shoulder for his earlier look, and keep every white piece pressed.
9. Rangiku Matsumoto Lieutenant Cosplay

Rangiku pairs the standard uniform with warm colour and glamorous styling. Cut the black wrap top with a comfortable neckline and pair it with wide hakama and a white sash, plus the Division 10 armband and her soft pink scarf around the shoulders. A long honey-blonde wig with loose waves and side bangs needs plenty of movement. Warm brown shadow, winged liner, peach blush and a muted pink lip suit her. Black socks and supportive straw sandals finish the outfit. Carry a small cat plush, a paperwork folder or a flower accessory instead of a weapon. On a wrap top, I sew a hidden snap where the two fronts cross and let fashion tape do the rest, which keeps the robe exactly where you set it. She stays recognisable while giving real coverage for public events.
10. Kenpachi Zaraki Captain Cosplay

Kenpachi's silhouette is imposing without any armour or weapon. Layer a sleeveless, distressed white haori over the black robe and wide hakama. Cut the haori edges into a ragged line, then stop the fraying with seam sealant or a narrow zigzag so it looks battle-worn without dropping threads everywhere. Style a tall black wig into separated spikes tipped with small gold bells made from light craft materials. Spikes that tall need an internal support, like a foam core or wire, or they bend by lunchtime. Add a black eyepatch on a soft elastic band, and remember it takes away your depth perception on stairs. Strong brows, dark liner and subtle contour give his intensity without wounds. Black socks, sturdy sandals and wrapped forearms finish him, with a Division 11 badge or bell bracelet as the prop.
11. Yachiru Kusajishi Lieutenant Cosplay

Yachiru is bright and playful, suiting adult cosplayers or children of the right age. Start with a small black kimono-style robe, wide trousers and a white sash, then a pink sleeveless outer layer or lieutenant badge depending on the version. A short bubblegum-pink wig with blunt bangs and curved ends sets the character. Keep makeup light: rosy cheeks, defined lashes, a soft pink lip. Black socks and cushioned flat sandals. A candy bag, small emblem or plush animal is the prop, and a foam-backed badge pins on without tearing the robe. For younger wearers I shorten the hem well above the ankle, skip any trailing fabric and swap sandals for slip-resistant shoes, because children run in costumes whatever you tell them.
12. Yoruichi Shihouin Stealth Force Cosplay

Yoruichi's stealth outfit is a streamlined break from the robes. Wear a fitted black sleeveless turtleneck with matching leggings or flexible fitted pants, a golden-yellow cropped vest or shoulder piece on top, long black arm guards and gold wrist cuffs. A long dark purple wig goes into a high ponytail with face-framing strands. Golden shimmer on the eyes, sharp brown liner, warm blush and a deep neutral lip. Black ankle boots with flexible soles keep her practical. A cat-ear headband, black cat plush or lightning-shaped clip makes a safe character nod. Choose opaque stretch fabric and check it in a bright mirror while you bend, since thin jersey goes sheer when stretched. Hidden elastic loops stop the arm and shoulder pieces sliding.
13. Kisuke Urahara Shopkeeper Cosplay

Urahara is relaxed and layered, and his hat gives him away from far off. A dark green kimono-style robe goes over a lighter green shirt and loose black trousers, with a green-and-white striped bucket hat and a folding fan in matching stripes. A short shaggy blonde wig peeks out under the hat; trim it with the hat on, so you only thin the bits that show. Lightly defined brows, soft brown shadow and faint shading along the jaw give his laid-back face. Wear white socks with wooden-look sandals that have hidden rubber soles, because bare wooden soles are slippery on smooth floors. A candy-shop bag, paper fan or plush black cat is the prop. Keep the robe light and secured with hidden ties, and make sure the hat sits snug without covering your eyes.
14. Sosuke Aizen Captain Cosplay

Aizen's captain-era look is polished and approachable, built on the usual Soul Reaper layers. Wear a black wrap-front uniform with wide hakama, a white sash and a clean white captain's haori. A short brown wig is styled back from the face with one controlled strand near the forehead. His rectangular glasses are essential for this version, with clear non-prescription lenses. Smooth foundation, straight brows, soft brown shadow and gentle contour keep him understated. Black socks and straw sandals finish the base. Carry a bound book, a folder or a Division 5 emblem. A white haori picks up grime at the hem and cuffs first, so I keep a stain pen in my bag and press the haori just before leaving. A calm posture and a small smile do more for him than any prop.
15. Gin Ichimaru Captain Cosplay

Gin is visually simple, so expression and makeup carry him. Wear a black Soul Reaper robe, wide hakama and white sash, with a sleeveless white captain's haori marked with a black division emblem on the back. A short silver wig with soft spikes has slightly longer pieces near the ears. Pale foundation, thin arched brows and a soft lavender-gray shadow. Suggest his narrow-eyed look with curved liner instead of squinting all day, which is tiring and leaves you nearly blind. Add a small, controlled smile and a muted lip. Black socks and cushioned straw sandals complete him. A silver fox pin, a persimmon-coloured pouch or a Division 3 badge works as a safe prop. Hem the robe to your height so you walk smoothly.
16. Soi Fon Captain Cosplay

Soi Fon is fitted and athletic. Wear a sleeveless black high-neck top with an open back over fitted black pants or leggings, then add a white captain's haori, gold arm bands and black fingerless gloves. A dark blue-black wig has straight bangs and two long braided loops finished with gold rings. Sharp liner, cool contour, neat brows and a matte natural lip suit her. Black martial-arts shoes or low ankle boots with flexible soles let you move. A butterfly hair ornament, Stealth Force emblem or gold fingertip cover is the prop. Those braided loops swing and flop, so I braid a length of lightweight wire or clear thread in as I go to hold the shape. Stretch panels under the arms make posing far more comfortable.
17. Retsu Unohana Captain Cosplay

Unohana is calm and elegant, centred on soft white layers. The black uniform goes under a long-sleeved white captain's haori that closes neatly at the front, with the Division 4 emblem on the back. A very long black wig carries her distinctive front braid, with the rest falling down the back. Smooth foundation, softly curved brows, brown liner and a muted rose lip. Black socks and traditional sandals sit under the long hem. A medical notebook, flower basket or gentle manta-shaped plush works as the prop. Detangle the wig before you dress, and braid it on a wig head where you can see what you're doing; a front braid is fiddly to plait on your own head. Hem the haori carefully so you can't step on it.
18. Mayuri Kurotsuchi Captain Cosplay

Mayuri is the one for experienced makers who enjoy bold shapes and theatrical makeup. A black uniform goes under a white sleeveless captain's haori, topped with a tall black-and-gold headpiece built from lightweight foam. Paint the face white with symmetrical black sections and gold accents, using cosmetic-grade products and never craft paint. Black gloves and decorative fingertip covers continue the strange silhouette. Keep the lips dark and the brows hidden or sharply redrawn to match your version. A full white face takes time to set, so dress before you paint; pulling anything over your head afterwards ruins it. Black socks and stable platform sandals of modest height. Carry a bright research folder, a glitter-filled vial or a Division 12 emblem, and check the headpiece balance and your view before any crowded event.
19. Nemu Kurotsuchi Lieutenant Cosplay

Nemu is a clean monochrome look where small details count. Choose a short fitted black kimono-style dress, or a wrap top with a knee-length black skirt, then add a wide white sash, white under-collar and Division 12 lieutenant armband. A long black wig has a centre part, smooth sides and a low braid or gathered section at the back. Minimal makeup works best: matte foundation, thin brows, black liner and neutral lips. Black tights or tall socks go with low black sandals or ankle boots. A lab notebook, silver hair ornament or harmless sample container makes the prop. Add hidden shorts under the skirt. Long synthetic wigs crackle with static against dark polyester, and a light mist of anti-static spray keeps the hair lying smooth.
20. Shinji Hirako Captain Cosplay

Shinji pairs traditional layers with one of the most distinctive haircuts in the series. Wear a black uniform with a white sash and a sleeveless captain's haori. The wig is a straight blonde jaw-length bob with blunt ends and a slightly uneven fringe. I always cut a bob like this on a wig head, never flat on a table, so the line falls level when it's worn. Narrow black liner, lightly defined cheekbones and a sly smile suit him. Black socks and supportive straw sandals finish the base. A patterned necktie, a jazz record sleeve or a Division 5 badge reflects his relaxed personality. For a Visored nod, carry a small white mask ornament rather than wearing a rigid full-face piece that blocks your view. A lining inside the haori stops the black uniform showing through the white.
21. Shunsui Kyoraku Captain Cosplay

Shunsui's impact comes from relaxed layers and that floral outer robe. Start with the black uniform, white sash and white captain's haori, then drape a pink floral kimono-style coat over the shoulders so both outer layers show. A long wavy brown wig goes into a loose ponytail under a wide woven hat, with short facial hair stippled on in makeup if you like. Warm contour, relaxed brows and a natural lip. Black socks and traditional sandals. Carry a folding fan, a flower sprig or a small wooden plaque. Use a lightweight floral fabric, a rayon or cotton lawn rather than heavy brocade, or three layers get hot fast. Hidden snaps at the shoulders stop the pink coat sliding backward every time you move.
22. Nanao Ise Lieutenant Cosplay

Nanao is smart, modest and comfortable for a long day. Wear a black wrap-front robe with wide hakama, a white sash and the Division 8 lieutenant armband. A smooth black wig is gathered into a neat bun with straight side bangs, finished with rectangular clear-lens glasses and a simple white hair ribbon. Professional, understated makeup suits her: matte foundation, tidy brows, brown liner and a soft neutral lip. Black socks and cushioned straw sandals. Carry a thick book, a document folder or a paper fan. Pin the bun and the wig at the ears so nothing shifts. My favourite trick on this one is sewing interior pockets into the robe for a phone and event pass, since a wrap top has plenty of hidden fabric to hold them.
23. Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez Arrancar Cosplay

Grimmjow is a bright white uniform, electric blue hair and feline edges. Wear a cropped white jacket with black trim over a fitted black top, with loose white pants and a wide black sash. Style a short vivid blue wig into strong upward spikes. His jawbone fragment is easiest shaped from lightweight foam warmed with a heat gun so it curves to your cheek, then attached with skin-safe adhesive. Bold blue liner, dark brows and a little feline contour around the cheeks. White boots with black soles. A blue panther charm, number patch or small bone-style shoulder ornament is the prop. Keep heavy resin away from the face, seal the foam smooth before painting, and carry spare adhesive for quick repairs.
24. Ulquiorra Cifer Arrancar Cosplay

Ulquiorra's black-and-white palette depends on precise makeup. Choose a white high-collar jacket with black piping and a split hem, a black sash over loose white pants and white boots with flat, comfortable soles. A short black wig has uneven bangs and slightly longer sides. Pale foundation, dark green tear-like lines under the eyes, fine black brows and muted lips create his face. Shape a lightweight white helmet fragment from foam and secure it above one side of the head. Carry a green crystal, number patch or small bat-shaped ornament. Keep the jacket structured but breathable. That high collar rubs the jaw all day, so set the green lines with powder and test them for transfer on a scrap of the white fabric before the event.
25. Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck Arrancar Cosplay

Adult Nelliel balances a fitted white uniform with flowing teal hair. Wear a high-neck white sleeveless top, matching fitted pants, a black waist sash and white boots, plus a short green skirt panel or layered waist piece if your reference has one. A very long teal-green wig needs thick waves and face-framing bangs. Build the skull headpiece from lightweight foam, smoothing every edge before painting it ivory. Green shadow, black liner, warm blush and the vertical rose-coloured facial marking complete the face. A small tan plush creature, turquoise crystal or number emblem works as a prop. Very long wigs are heavy and pull backward, so wear a wig grip underneath and trim the length if it's more than you can manage. Stretch fabric gives better coverage and movement than stiff vinyl.
26. Tier Harribel Arrancar Cosplay

Harribel uses a strong white silhouette, blonde hair and bone-like details. Choose a sleeveless white high-collar top with black trim, white fitted pants and a wide black sash. For public wear, I extend the top to the waist or layer it over an opaque skin-tone or black bodysuit. A long honey-blonde wig needs straight layers and angled bangs. Make the high jaw-shaped collar from flexible foam so it moves with your neck, and cut a few small ventilation holes on the inside, because a closed foam collar traps heat against the face. Golden shadow, dark liner, defined brows and a neutral lip. White knee-high boots finish her, with a shark charm, number patch or blue water-effect accessory instead of a weapon.
27. Szayelaporro Granz Arrancar Cosplay

Szayelaporro is colourful and photographs well under bright light. Wear a fitted white jacket with black piping, white pants, a black sash and white ankle boots. A shoulder-length pink wig with a centre part and softly flipped ends goes with rectangular glasses in a pale decorative frame. Pink-purple shadow, sharp liner, sculpted brows and a cool rose lip. Attach a small white fragment near the hairline with lightweight foam and hidden clips. Carry a bright research notebook, a numbered badge or a glitter-filled container. Fit the jacket closely, then test it by crossing your arms; if the back seam strains, let it out a little. Since he's almost all white, pack a stain pen and choose makeup that won't transfer onto the collar.
28. Coyote Starrk Arrancar Cosplay

Starrk's look is deliberately lazy and easy to wear all day. Start with a white open-front jacket with black trim, loose white pants, a dark sash and a gray or black undershirt for coverage. A shaggy dark brown wig has longer pieces at the jaw. Shape a small bone-like collar fragment from foam and place it near the neckline. Subtle stubble makeup, softly shadowed eyes, relaxed brows and natural lips suit him. White boots or low slip-ons. A turquoise necklace, number patch or small gray wolf plush replaces his weapons. A linen blend keeps the uniform cool, though it wrinkles fast, which honestly suits him. A snap or two hidden inside the jacket keeps it hanging the right way as you walk.
29. Bambietta Basterbine Quincy Cosplay

Bambietta is crisp and military, in white with black and burgundy accents. Wear a structured white double-breasted jacket with black piping, a fitted white skirt and an opaque black undershirt, then black tights, white gloves and low-heeled white knee-high boots. A long dark brown wig has straight layers and neat side bangs. Defined black liner, berry shadow, soft contour and burgundy lipstick. The white cap with a dark emblem is what identifies her, and a red star pin or letter badge is the prop. Shorts under the skirt help with posing. For the jacket's structure, I fuse a medium-weight interfacing to the front panels and collar, which holds the shape without the bulk of foam. Keep the boots flexible enough for stairs.
30. Yhwach Wandenreich Cosplay

Yhwach commands attention through long white layers and that heavy moustache. A floor-length white double-breasted coat with black trim goes over a high-neck white tunic and straight white trousers, with a wide black belt and polished white boots. A long dark wig with loose waves pairs with a full black moustache from ventilated costume hair or washable facial-hair makeup. Dark shading at the eyes, strong brows and subtle mature contour. A black medallion, ornate letter emblem or closed white book is the prop. Keep the coat hem just above the floor. A floor-length coat takes a lot of fabric, so pick a lighter twill and keep the shoulder padding modest. Practise turning and sitting in it before the day.
31. Jugram Haschwalth Quincy Cosplay

Haschwalth suits anyone who enjoys tailored coats and long blonde hair. Choose a white military-style coat with black piping, silver buttons, a fitted waist and split tails, over white trousers, with black gloves and tall white boots. A long pale-blonde wig with a smooth centre part needs to stay straight and detangled. Cool contour, defined brows, gray-beige shadow and a matte neutral lip. A white cap, shield emblem or balanced-scale charm makes the prop. I put magnetic closures behind the decorative buttons, so you dress in seconds instead of fighting a double row of buttonholes. A wig grip and a low hidden braid keep that heavy hair in place. Press sharp creases into the trousers and coat, because he should look severe.
32. Rukia Kuchiki White Bankai Cosplay

Rukia's white Bankai is an advanced, elegant project in an all-pale palette. Wear a floor-length white kimono-style robe with wide sleeves, layered white undergarments and a structured white sash, with translucent ribbon, pale crystal beads or frosted appliqués along the collar and shoulders. A long white wig has smooth lengths, a centre part and small ice-style ornaments. Luminous foundation, pearl shadow, fine white liner and cool pink lips. White socks and hidden flat shoes keep the silhouette clean. Carry a clear snowflake ornament or a translucent fan. Choose lightweight fabrics, such as chiffon over a cotton base, so the layers don't get heavy. White on white disappears in photos, so a faint blue-gray tint in one layer or trim keeps the details visible.
33. Ichigo Kurosaki Fullbring Bankai Cosplay

Ichigo's Fullbring Bankai sharpens his black uniform with bold red. Start with a fitted black wrap-front coat with a high collar, red lining and angular red trim, over wide black hakama-style pants and a narrow black belt. A short orange wig goes into controlled spikes, close at the sides. Natural foundation, strong brows, brown-black liner and subtle cheek shading. Black ankle boots suit this modern version better than sandals. A Substitute Soul Reaper badge, red chain or black-and-red emblem is the prop. I'd use faux leather only for small trim pieces, since a whole coat of it doesn't breathe and squeaks when you move. A breathable matte fabric photographs better and feels far more comfortable than a fully synthetic costume.
34. Senjumaru Shutara Royal Guard Cosplay

Senjumaru is a serious sewing project with an elegant black-and-white base. A long black kimono-style dress goes under a white sleeveless overcoat with bold black markings, a wide structured obi and layered black-and-white panels that move as you walk. An extremely long black wig has a centre part and gold ornaments at the crown. Pale foundation, elongated liner, a red lip and gold details at the eyes. Wear hidden black platform shoes with a stable, modest sole. Carry an embroidery hoop, a bundle of silk thread or a fabric scroll, all fitting for the Royal Guard's seamstress. Stiffen the obi with heavy interfacing or a sheet of craft foam inside so it doesn't wrinkle when you sit. If you add her extra arms, build them from light foam on a secure back harness with flexible joints.
35. Candice Catnipp Quincy Cosplay

Candice brings neon green hair and lightning accents to the white Wandenreich uniform. Wear a cropped white military jacket over an opaque black fitted top, with white shorts or a short skirt over black safety shorts. White gloves, a black belt and white thigh-high boots with manageable heels finish the base. A long neon-green wig has volume at the crown and sweeping front layers. Green shimmer shadow, dramatic liner, shaped brows and a muted pink lip. A white cap, lightning-bolt earrings and a green acrylic energy ornament are harmless accessories. Fashion tape or hidden snaps keep the jacket in place. Choose boots with stretch panels, and detangle the wig from the ends up during the day, because long full wigs mat at the nape where they rub the collar.
Painting a Division Number on a Captain's Haori
Every captain here wears a white haori with their division number on the back, written in kanji inside a diamond shape. It's the detail people read first, so it deserves care.
- Print the correct kanji for your division at full size and check it against several reference images. A mirrored or upside-down character is the most common mistake.
- Cut a stencil from freezer paper, iron it shiny side down onto the haori, and slide a piece of card inside the garment so paint can't soak through to the front.
- Dab on black fabric paint with a stencil brush in thin coats rather than one thick one, because thick paint cracks when the fabric folds.
- Peel the stencil while the paint is still slightly tacky, let it dry fully, then heat-set it with an iron through a pressing cloth.
Black heat-transfer vinyl is a neat alternative if you have a cutting machine, though it stiffens the fabric more. Appliqué in black cotton takes longest but is the most durable route and survives many washes.
All-White Uniforms Without the See-Through Problem
The Arrancar and Quincy costumes are almost entirely white, and white has two problems: it shows through and it shows dirt. I check every white piece by holding it up to a window with my hand behind it. If I can see my fingers, it needs a lining or a skin-tone layer underneath. A white twill or drill is usually opaque on its own, while thin white jersey almost never is.
For dirt, pack a stain pen, set your makeup with powder so it doesn't rub onto collars, and carry a few baby wipes for white boots. Wash white cotton pieces on their own before the event, too; one stray dark sock in the load can leave a gray cast you can't get out.
Sew the Base Once, Then Build the Cast
Bleach's costume designs cover a lot of ground. Beginners can start with school uniforms, casual clothes or a reusable Soul Reaper robe, while experienced makers can take on captains' haori, Arrancar headpieces, Quincy tailoring and Royal Guard layers. Whichever character you choose, put your effort into a secure wig, skin-safe makeup, breathable fabric and shoes you can walk in. Badges, books, plushes, emblems and ornaments give you props people will understand without a realistic blade. Look at several reference images before you cut any fabric, then adjust coverage and construction to suit you. Accurate colours and one signature detail, worn comfortably, beat a perfect replica you can't move in.
