Five Nights at Freddy's is a gift for group costumes, because every character already has a role and a color, and the fun is in seeing them line up together. The classic band of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy is where most friend groups start, and the later games add toy, withered, neon, circus and daycare characters when the group gets bigger. I build almost all of these from painted clothing, felt panels and handmade ears rather than mascot suits, since a full fursuit-style head is hot, heavy and hard to see out of. Each idea below covers the clothes, headpieces, makeup, props and shoes, with notes on what tends to go wrong when a group of friends, coworkers or family tries to match.

Casting the Group Before Anyone Shops
The groups that look best are the ones that decided roles early. When I help a group plan, I settle three things before a single piece of felt gets bought.
- Head count and era. Four people fit the classic band; five or six open up the toy, Funtime or variant lineups; a big group can mix eras.
- Who is happy wearing face paint and who isn't. Give the makeup-heavy roles, like the Puppet or Mangle, to the people who don't mind it, and the human characters to anyone who wants a clean face.
- One shared detail. Matching bow ties, the same white gloves or one checkered accessory on everyone does more to link a group than perfect accuracy on any single costume.
Write the color for each person in a group chat. It sounds fussy, but it's the easiest way to stop two friends turning up in the same shade of yellow.
1. Classic FNAF Animatronic Group Costume

This is the lineup people recognize from across a room, so I'd make it the first choice for any group of four. Freddy wears brown overalls, a black bow tie, bear ears and a small top hat. Bonnie gets a purple outfit, long rabbit ears, a red bow tie and a lightweight cardboard guitar. Chica is yellow with orange leggings, a white character bib, feathered hair accessories and a handmade cupcake. Foxy takes rust-red clothing, a pirate scarf, an eye patch, pointed ears and a rolled treasure map. Simple face paint gives everyone rounded cheeks and a dark nose. The bib is the detail I'd never skip, because without it Chica can read as a generic chick.
2. Toy Animatronic FNAF Group Costume

The toy versions are shinier and cuter, so the makeup carries more of the look here. Toy Freddy wears a fitted brown set, mini top hat, red bow tie, rosy cheeks and black sneakers. Toy Bonnie is blue with white gloves, rabbit ears, a red bow tie and a toy guitar. Toy Chica takes a yellow dress or matching set, orange tights, pink cheeks and a cupcake. Mangle is the hard one: layered white and pink clothing, mismatched leg warmers, several cardboard ears and flexible silver craft tubes. I'd give Mangle to whoever enjoys a craft project. Clean white face makeup with painted freckles and sharply outlined eyes ties the group together, and a satin or lightly shiny fabric helps everyone look like a polished toy without a heavy mask.
3. Withered FNAF Animatronic Group Costume

Withered characters look worn, and the safest way to get there is paint and patches, not real damage. Start with faded brown, purple, yellow and rust-red clothing you're willing to mark with gray fabric paint, dry-brushed on so it catches only the raised texture. Irregular felt patches, a strip of visible silver ribbon and foam panel shapes suggest exposed parts. Freddy wears a worn top hat, Bonnie has floppy ears and a cardboard guitar, Chica carries a faded cupcake, and Foxy adds a soft eye patch and striped pirate scarf. Smudged gray makeup at the cheeks and jaw finishes the aged look. Rugged sneakers or flat boots let the whole group walk without anyone limping by the end.
4. Glamrock FNAF Group Costume

The Security Breach band is the brightest group here: Glamrock Freddy, Glamrock Chica, Montgomery Gator and Roxanne Wolf. Freddy wears an orange top with blue lightning details, a black bow tie and a small blue top hat. Chica pairs pink-and-white clothing with green accessories, feathered hair and bold eye makeup. Montgomery needs green clothing, purple shoulder pads, star sunglasses and a red faux-hawk. Roxanne wears gray, red and purple with wolf ears, long silver hair and a keytar. Shoulder pads are the piece I'd test early, since cheap foam ones slide forward unless you pin them to a fitted layer. Striped arm warmers and metallic accents repeat across everyone, and colorful high-tops or flat combat boots keep it comfortable.
5. Sister Location FNAF Group Costume

Sister Location suits a group with one or two people who love a dress. Circus Baby wears a red dress or matching set, red pigtails and striped accessories, and carries a microphone. Ballora takes a blue tutu over leggings, ballet-style flats, a neat bun and blue face accents. Funtime Freddy is white, purple and pink with bear ears and a mini hat, and Funtime Foxy wears white and pink with fox ears, a bow tie and a fluffy tail. A fifth person can dress in blue as Bon-Bon or carry a handmade puppet. I'd buy a single tube of white cream makeup for the whole group so the skin tone matches; add circular cheek color and thin silver seam lines, and the five look like one show.
6. Nightmare Animatronic FNAF Group Costume

Nightmare versions sound frightening, but you can keep them playful enough for a family party. The bases are dark brown, navy-purple, mustard yellow and deep red sweatshirts and joggers, with torn-edge felt panels layered on top so you never cut the clothes themselves. Foam ears, oversized eyebrows, bow ties and hand-painted cardboard masks give each character its shape; Chica carries a dark cupcake and Foxy wears a pirate scarf and soft eye patch. Smoky gray around the eyes and a few mechanical lines on the cheeks are enough. Round off every foam corner with scissors, because sharp points on a crowded dance floor end up in someone's arm. Black high-top sneakers tie the four together for a long night.
7. Phantom Animatronic FNAF Group Costume

Phantoms are the classic characters washed in sickly green, which means you can reuse costumes from an earlier year. Take the brown, yellow, red, white and striped outfits for Freddy, Chica, Foxy, Mangle and Balloon Boy, and sponge olive and charcoal fabric paint over them lightly. I test the sponge pressure on the inside of a hem first; too much paint and the fabric goes stiff. Add torn-look felt, foam ears and painted panels with no sharp edges. Freddy wears a battered hat, Chica holds a green-tinted cupcake, Foxy has a faded scarf, Mangle uses flexible silver tubes, and Balloon Boy wears stripes, a propeller cap and a balloon-shaped sign. Green-gray face makeup and dark sneakers finish it, and under bright party light the shared tint does the coordinating for you.
8. Rockstar Animatronic FNAF Group Costume

Rockstar characters are all about the stage, so the props matter more than usual. Freddy wears brown with purple details, a top hat and a microphone. Bonnie is deep blue with red accents, rabbit ears and a star-shaped cardboard guitar. Chica takes yellow clothing, pink accessories, feathered clips and lightweight maracas, and Foxy wears red with a pirate vest, an accordion-style cardboard prop, an eye patch and pointed ears. Metallic stars go on jackets, skirts or overalls as removable patches; iron-on stars rarely come off cleanly, so I sew them with a few stitches or use safety pins on the back. Rounded noses, bright cheeks and strong eyebrows in face paint, plus black or matching high-tops, keep the band moving.
9. Daycare Attendant FNAF Group Costume

Sun, Moon and Eclipse make a tight trio that photographs well because the colors split so clearly. Sun wears a yellow-and-orange jumpsuit, a pointed sun-ray headpiece, red cheek circles, striped sleeves and curled costume shoes. Moon takes a blue outfit with star patterns, a soft nightcap, pale face makeup and blue footwear. Eclipse mixes orange, yellow, navy and red into a split costume with half sun rays and a sleeping cap. The sun-ray headpiece is the part that fails; I cut the rays from thin foam and glue them to a sturdy headband rather than cardboard, which bends after an hour. Ruffled collars and wrist cuffs in light fabric, painted smiles instead of full masks, small bells stitched firmly to the cuffs, and flat sneakers under fabric shoe covers keep all three comfortable.
10. Security Breach Human FNAF Group Costume

If your group would rather skip ears and face paint entirely, the human Security Breach characters are the answer. Vanessa wears a beige security shirt, dark trousers, a cap, a badge, a ponytail and black shoes. Gregory has a blue striped polo, tan shorts, tousled brown hair, a bandage on one cheek and red sneakers. Cassie takes a red top, denim shorts over patterned leggings, colorful accessories and comfortable boots, and a Pizzaplex employee rounds it out with a bright polo, name badge, utility belt and walkie-talkie. Handmade visitor passes or security cards on lanyards are the shared detail. With no headpieces at all, this is the lineup I'd suggest for a school or office costume day.
11. FNAF Movie Character Group Costume

The movie version mixes people and animatronics, which suits a big group where not everyone wants to dress as an animal. Mike Schmidt wears a dark jacket over a work shirt, practical pants and a security badge. Abby takes colorful overalls, a striped or patterned shirt, sneakers and her natural hair. Vanessa wears a neat police-style uniform with a ponytail and utility accessories; skip realistic insignia, which can cause trouble at some venues. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy follow their classic brown, purple, yellow and red with ears, bow ties, face paint and props, kept soft and simplified. Flashlight props, handmade staff badges and matching pizza pins are what make the two halves read as one cast.
12. Security Guard And Animatronics FNAF Costume

One person plays the nervous night guard and everyone else becomes Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy around them. The guard wears a gray button-down, black trousers, a cap, comfortable shoes and a handmade badge, and carries a flashlight, clipboard and toy walkie-talkie. The animatronics wear matching tops and bottoms, animal ears, bow ties, simple face makeup and their props: Freddy's microphone, Bonnie's cardboard guitar, Chica's cupcake and Foxy's rolled map. I like this one for groups with a natural performer, because the joke only lands if the guard commits to looking terrified in the middle of the photo.
13. Puppet And Prize Corner FNAF Group Costume

Here the Puppet is the star, with Balloon Boy, JJ and a few prize-box characters around it. The Puppet wears a fitted black outfit with black-and-white striped sleeves, white gloves, black flats and a long white mask-style face: red cheek circles and purple tear lines running down from the eyes. Balloon Boy pairs blue pants and a striped shirt with red shoes and a propeller cap, while JJ copies the shape in purple and blue. Extra friends can be wrapped presents, with boxy foam panels over plain clothes; foam boxes are far easier to sit down in than cardboard ones. Cardboard balloons, ribbons and small plush prizes are the accessories, and matching striped socks on everyone link the group without trying too hard.
14. Golden Freddy And Spring Bonnie FNAF Costume

Golden Freddy, Spring Bonnie, Fredbear and a retro pizzeria employee give you a vintage yellow-and-purple group. Golden Freddy wears muted gold clothing, bear ears, a black bow tie and a tilted top hat. Spring Bonnie takes golden-yellow with long rabbit ears, a purple bow tie and vest details, and Fredbear uses a deeper mustard base with a purple hat and bow tie. The employee wears a collared shirt, dark pants, an apron and a handmade badge. Three yellows side by side can blur, so I'd deliberately pick one muted, one bright and one mustard. Soft gold face paint at the noses and cheeks, a few distressed fabric patches, and brown loafers, yellow sneakers or dark work shoes.
15. Freddy Variants FNAF Group Costume

A bear-only group lets everyone pick a different Freddy while the theme stays obvious: Classic, Toy, Golden, Funtime, Glamrock and Rockstar. Each person wears a warm-toned base with bear ears and a small top hat, and the bow tie color tells you which version they are. That bow tie does a lot of work, so make it big enough to see from across a room. Add character-specific makeup such as rosy toy cheeks, metallic face lines or glam lightning shapes. Microphones come from painted cardboard tubes topped with foam balls. Shoes repeat each person's accent color, and lining the group up from darkest brown to brightest orange makes a striking photo.
16. Bonnie Variants FNAF Group Costume

Rabbit fans can fill a whole group: Classic, Toy, Withered, Nightmare, Spring and Glamrock Bonnie. Build each from a purple, blue, navy or yellow base with long foam or felt ears, a contrasting belly panel, a bow tie and a cotton tail. Long ears are the weak point; I slide a length of craft wire or a strip of stiff plastic inside each felt ear so they stand up instead of folding by midnight. Toy Bonnie gets pink cheeks, the weathered versions take gray patches and silver ribbon, Spring Bonnie needs vintage gold, and Glamrock Bonnie wears star patterns with bold makeup. Give several of them cardboard guitars so it reads as a band. Matching gloves and high-top sneakers keep the lineup consistent even though every rabbit comes from a different era.
17. Chica Variants FNAF Group Costume

All six Chicas share a yellow base, so the accent color is what tells them apart: Classic, Toy, Withered, Nightmare, Glamrock and Rockstar. Assign accents before anyone shops, or you end up with three people in orange. Everyone gets a feathered headband, orange tights, a character bib, rounded cheek makeup and comfortable shoes. Classic Chica carries a cupcake, Toy Chica a polished pink version, and Rockstar Chica lightweight maracas. Glamrock Chica needs an athletic pink-and-green outfit and bold eye makeup. Weathered versions should use removable gray felt patches rather than damaged clothing, and cupcakes in different sizes and colors make each person easy to identify.
18. Foxy Variants FNAF Group Costume

A Foxy group can include Classic Foxy, Withered Foxy, Mangle, Funtime Foxy, Rockstar Foxy and Roxanne Wolf as a related canine addition. Rust red, white, pink, scarlet and gray separate the characters, and everyone needs pointed ears, a tail, nose makeup and boots or sneakers they can stand in. Tails are worth sewing onto a belt rather than pinning to trousers; a pinned tail drags the waistband down every time someone sits. Classic and Withered Foxy wear pirate scarves and eye patches, Mangle mixes white-and-pink layers with silver tubing, Funtime Foxy adds a bow tie and polished face details, and Rockstar Foxy carries an accordion-shaped prop. Roxanne needs long silver hair, purple accents and glam makeup.
19. Funtime Animatronic FNAF Group Costume

Funtime Freddy, Funtime Foxy, Circus Baby, Ballora and Bon-Bon make a polished circus group with white as the shared base. Pink, purple, red and blue panels separate each costume. Freddy needs bear ears, a top hat, a microphone and a blue hand puppet; Foxy wears pointed ears, a fluffy tail and a bright bow tie. Circus Baby adds red pigtails and a flared skirt or pants set with her own microphone, and Ballora wears blue ballet-style layers over leggings with flat shoes. White clothing shows every spill, so pack a stain pen if there's food at the party. Circular cheek makeup, thin silver lines, white gloves, matching shoes and light ruffled collars finish the stage look.
20. Mediocre Melodies FNAF Group Costume

The Mediocre Melodies are a deep cut, and that's exactly why a fan group will love them. Happy Frog wears green with frog-eye headbands, a yellow belly panel and a microphone. Mr. Hippo takes purple clothing, rounded ears, a small hat and a flower. Pigpatch wears pink overalls and pig ears with a cardboard banjo, Nedd Bear is warm brown with a tan belly, red necktie and bear ears, and Orville uses orange with large elephant ears, a top hat and a flower. Big elephant ears flop unless the felt is doubled and interfaced. Colorful cheeks, simple animal noses and matching bow ties make the unusual group look intentional. Expect to explain who you are to anyone outside the fandom.
21. Pizzeria Staff FNAF Group Costume

This crew dresses as the restaurant staff rather than the robots: a security guard, manager, server, arcade attendant, cook and mascot performer. Matching burgundy or purple polos, black pants, handmade name badges and nonslip-style shoes are the uniform. The manager adds a blazer and clipboard, the server a striped apron and an empty pizza box, and the arcade attendant colorful pins and a token pouch. The cook wears a checkered apron and chef hat with no real kitchen tools, and the mascot performer takes brown overalls, bear ears, a bow tie and a mini top hat. Matching polos are the cheapest way I know to make six people look like one team, and the caps and color-block details sell the workplace.
22. Easy Hoodie FNAF Group Costume

When time is short, solid-color hoodies do most of the work: brown for Freddy, purple for Bonnie, yellow for Chica, red for Foxy and black for the Puppet. Ears, belly panels, bow ties and details go on with fabric-safe fasteners, and I'd use sew-on snaps or safety pins rather than hot glue, which peels off fleece once it's worn. Black joggers or leggings and matching sneakers go underneath. Freddy gets a mini hat, Bonnie a cardboard guitar, Chica a cupcake, and Foxy an eye patch and pirate scarf. The Puppet adds striped arm warmers, white gloves and simple mask-style makeup. These stay warm outdoors and pack flat in a bag.
23. Cardboard Mask FNAF Group Costume

Cardboard masks are the budget route for Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, Golden Freddy and Mangle. Paint lightweight cardboard face shapes in each character's colors, cut the eye holes much bigger than feels necessary, and use soft elastic. Cereal-box card is thin enough to curve to a face; corrugated cardboard is sturdier but traps heat. Underneath, everyone wears matching monochrome sweatshirts and pants with felt belly panels, bow ties, ears and tails. Cardboard props cover the rest: a microphone, guitar, cupcake, rolled treasure map and painted mechanical panels. If full coverage feels stuffy, wear the mask above the nose or push it up as a headpiece. Matching sneakers and colored gloves, and the shared handmade texture makes the DIY look deliberate.
24. Kids FNAF Group Costume

For children, I put soft materials, easy movement and clear sight ahead of accuracy. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Balloon Boy can all start from colorful sweat sets or pajamas, with felt ears on wide headbands instead of enclosed masks. Washable face paint covers small noses, freckles and rosy cheeks. Freddy carries a foam microphone, Bonnie a flat cardboard guitar and Chica a plush cupcake. Foxy's fabric eye patch should sit lifted above one eye so both eyes can see the curb. Balloon Boy holds a light balloon-shaped sign. Flexible sneakers and warm layers underneath make them fit for trick-or-treating, and a little reflective tape worked into bows and cuffs keeps them visible after dark.
25. Family FNAF Group Costume

In a family group, I cast by comfort first and character second. Adults can be the security guard and Freddy, older children Bonnie and Chica, and a younger child Foxy or Balloon Boy. A baby becomes the cupcake in a pink bunting or soft one-piece with a candle-shaped fabric headband, which is gentle enough to nap in. The guard wears a simple uniform and carries a flashlight, while Freddy has brown overalls, ears and a top hat. Purple, yellow and red sweat sets cover the other characters, and matching sneakers keep everyone mobile. Buy the felt and paint for ears, bows, badges and props in one shop so the colors match across ages.
26. Glam FNAF Group Costume

The glam take reimagines Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Mangle in sequins and metallics. Freddy wears a brown sequin suit with bear ears and a top hat, Bonnie a purple jumpsuit with long ears and a glittered guitar, and Chica a yellow dress with orange tights, feathers and a crystal-trimmed cupcake. Foxy takes a tailored red set with pointed ears, a pirate scarf and sleek boots, and Mangle wears white-and-pink separates, layered silver accessories and uneven leg warmers. Sequins scratch the inside of an arm, so I'd line any sequin sleeve or wear a thin layer under it. Bright cheeks, graphic eyeliner and metallic mechanical lines carry the theme, with shoes chosen by each person's comfort, from block heels to polished sneakers.
27. School-Friendly FNAF Group Costume

School rules usually ban masks and big props, so this version keeps the characters in everyday clothes. Freddy wears a brown sweater, black pants, a bear-ear headband, bow tie and mini hat. Bonnie takes a purple cardigan, neutral pants, rabbit ears and a paper guitar pinned flat to a tote bag. Chica pairs a yellow top and orange pants with a feathered headband and a cupcake lunch bag, and Foxy wears a red hoodie, black jeans, pointed ears and a soft pirate scarf. A fifth student can be the Puppet in black with striped sleeves and minimal white face makeup. Closed-toe sneakers for all, and everyone can sit at a desk and run at recess without taking anything off.
28. Neon Arcade FNAF Group Costume

Neon versions of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and the Puppet start from black clothing with bright fabric panels in each character's color. Reflective tape outlines the ears, bow ties, cuffs, belly shapes and mechanical seams. Reflective tape and blacklight-reactive paint are not the same thing: the tape bounces back headlights and camera flash, while fluorescent paint and fabric are what glow under UV, so I use a bit of both. Freddy carries a neon-painted microphone, Bonnie a cardboard guitar, and Chica a glowing-look cupcake with no electronics. Foxy adds a bright scarf, and the Puppet wears striped sleeves and white gloves. Fluorescent face makeup on cheeks and noses, and black sneakers with colorful laces, keep the base consistent.
29. Humanized FNAF Character Group Costume

Humanized versions give you the character colors without any mascot construction, which suits adults who want to look put together. Freddy wears brown trousers, a matching vest, a black bow tie, bear ears and a top hat. Bonnie combines a purple jacket, dark jeans, rabbit ears and a guitar-shaped bag, and Chica wears a yellow skirt or pants set, orange tights, feather clips and a cupcake purse. Foxy needs a rust-red jacket, black pants, pointed ears, a tail and a pirate-style scarf, and Golden Freddy can wear a mustard suit with black accessories. Keep makeup wearable: colored eyeliner, freckles and small painted noses. Most of these pieces go back into a normal wardrobe after the party.
30. Ultimate FNAF Character Group Costume

For a really big group, take one character from each era: Classic Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Withered Chica, Springtrap, Nightmare Foxy, Circus Baby, Rockstar Freddy, Glamrock Chica, Sun, Moon and a security guard. Give each person a separate signature color and silhouette, then repeat black-and-white checkered accessories through the whole group so it reads as one cast. Animal characters need ears, face makeup, bow ties and foam panels; Circus Baby uses red pigtails, Sun and Moon wear ruffled collars, and the guard carries a flashlight and clipboard. Keep Springtrap's distressing soft rather than graphic. With eleven people, I'd appoint one organizer to hold the color list, and everyone needs shoes they can stand in for a long group photo.
Ears and Hats That Survive a Whole Party
Almost every costume here depends on ears, a small top hat or a headpiece, and that's where groups lose their look halfway through the night.
Building the ears
Bear and fox ears hold their shape best in thick EVA foam, which can be warmed with a hair dryer and curved slightly, then covered in felt. Thin craft foam is fine for small round bear ears but buckles on anything tall. For rabbit ears, I stitch two layers of felt with a wire or stiff plastic strip between them so they stay upright.
Keeping them on
Use a wide padded headband rather than a thin plastic one, which pinches behind the ears within an hour. Mini top hats sit better clipped to the hair with two snap clips than balanced on a band. Hot glue grips foam well indoors but turns brittle in cold air, so for an outdoor night I add a few stitches or a strip of fabric glue as well.
Bring a small repair bag for the group: safety pins, a glue stick for foam, spare elastic and a few makeup wipes. Someone's ear always comes loose, and it's usually right before the photo.
Pick One Era, Then Repeat One Detail
A FNAF group works when the characters are easy to spot and everyone is comfortable enough to stay in costume. Settle on one game era, color palette or character family first, then repeat a small detail such as bow ties, rounded cheek makeup, foam ears or checkered accessories across the lineup. Cardboard props and felt panels get you most of the way without buying mascot suits. Before anyone adds a mask or a big headpiece, think about how well they'll see, how much room there is to walk, the venue's rules and the age of each person. The classic band is the safest start, and the hoodie version is the one to grab when the party is this weekend.
