Starfire and Nightwing are a pair built on color: her purple, emerald and orange against his black and electric blue. That contrast is so strong that you can loosen almost everything else and still be read correctly, which is why this duo stretches from comic-accurate bodysuits to a hoodie and a tennis skirt. The 35 versions below cover beginners and experienced makers, plus-size and modest fits, hot rooms and cold streets, and friends as well as couples. For each I've listed the clothes, hair, makeup, accessories, props and shoes, and where a version has a weak spot, I say so.

Orange Skin Without Painting Your Whole Body
Starfire's skin is part of the character, but full-body orange makeup is a lot of work, it rubs off on everything, and it is the thing most likely to ruin a partner's black suit. For most people, I'd stop at the face, neck and maybe the arms, then let the purple costume and red wig carry the rest.
- Patch-test any body makeup on the inside of your wrist a day before, and skip it if your skin reacts.
- Use a water-activated or cream body makeup in a warm orange-gold rather than a flat traffic-cone orange; it reads as skin, not paint.
- Apply thin layers with a damp sponge, let each dry, then press translucent setting powder over it.
- Finish with a setting spray and keep the costume's neckline clear of the face until everything is dry.
- Remove it with an oil cleanser or balm first, then soap and water; scrubbing hard only irritates the skin.
If you'd rather not paint at all, warm bronzer, orange-toned blush and a bold green eye still read as Starfire. Long sleeves or gloves cover the rest. Nightwing, meanwhile, should keep a lint roller and a pack of makeup wipes handy, because orange transfer shows up on black fabric more than any other color.
1. Classic Starfire And Nightwing Costume

The comic version is the one to make if you want people to name you straight away. Starfire wears a fitted purple bodysuit, or a sleeveless top with matching shorts, silver bracers, a jeweled collar and over-the-knee purple boots, plus a long, full red wig, green eye makeup and optional orange body makeup that you've patch-tested first. Nightwing wears a flexible black jumpsuit with a bold blue wing emblem across the chest and shoulders, black gloves, a slim utility belt, comfortable tactical-style boots and a fitted blue domino mask. Over-the-knee boots slip down unless they fit snugly at the thigh, so I add a strip of silicone grip tape inside the top edge. Light green orbs for her and a small gadget pouch for him are enough.
2. Animated Starfire And Nightwing Costume

The animated look trades detail for clean shapes, which makes it a kind first project. Starfire wears a sleeveless lavender crop top, a mini skirt over fitted shorts, long purple gloves and silver-trimmed knee-high boots, with a straight red wig cut with soft layers at the ends, fresh makeup, bright green shadow and a little orange blush. Nightwing wears a matte black long-sleeve unitard with a simplified blue bird across the chest, black gloves, flat boots, a utility belt and a small blue mask. Keep every surface smooth. In a cartoon look, a wrinkled seam stands out far more than a missing gadget. Green foam energy discs give Starfire something bright to hold.
3. Live-Action Starfire And Nightwing Costume

For a live-action feel, go deeper with the colors and add texture. Starfire starts with a plum bodysuit, or a fitted top and leggings, under flexible burgundy-and-gold foam armor, with gold wrist cuffs, emerald-style gems, heeled boots and a thick curled auburn wig. Copper makeup and green metallic shadow suggest her glow without painting your whole body. Nightwing pairs a black compression shirt and tactical pants with light chest panels and a dark blue emblem, reinforced-looking gloves, a utility belt, black lace-up boots and a molded domino mask. Small LED accents work on both. Darker, muted colors photograph better than bright ones here, but they lose the comic punch in dim rooms, so choose based on where you'll be seen.
4. DIY Starfire And Nightwing Costume

You don't need much sewing for a homemade pair that looks finished. For Starfire, wear a purple athletic top with a matching skater skirt over shorts, then make the silver collar, wrist cuffs and boot covers from painted craft foam. A long red wig with loose waves, green liner, warm orange blush and a green LED ball finish her. Nightwing starts with a black compression shirt and fitted joggers, with the blue chest symbol cut from stretch fabric or adhesive felt. Adhesive felt peels off stretch fabric within an hour of moving, so I stitch around the edge with a few running stitches even when it's sold as stick-on. Black gloves, boots, a belt with painted foam pouches and a blue mask complete him.
5. Last-Minute Starfire And Nightwing Costume

If Halloween is tomorrow, raid your closets. Starfire takes a purple tank top, matching skirt, silver belt, purple knee socks and ankle boots, with a red wig or your own long red hair teased big, green shadow and a silver collar. Nightwing wears a fitted black shirt, black pants, gloves and boots, with the wing symbol laid out in removable fabric tape and a domino mask cut from blue felt. Felt masks slide unless they sit on a little skin-safe adhesive or a tight elastic, so try it on before you leave. A black belt with small fabric pouches, a green battery light for her and a compact flashlight for him round it out. The color blocking does almost all the work.
6. Thrifted Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Thrift stores are good for this pair because purple and black clothes turn up everywhere. Look for a purple sleeveless dress, or a top and skirt, for Starfire, shorten the hem if needed, and add silver-painted foam cuffs, a wide belt and purple boots or boot covers. A secondhand red wig can be washed in cool water with a little fabric softener, then restyled into big waves. Emerald shadow and peachy-orange makeup finish her. Nightwing wears a thrifted black athletic shirt, slim black pants, gloves and sturdy boots, with a blue fabric emblem and a craft-foam mask. Small camera or phone pouches make a convincing utility belt, and green and blue battery lights are cheap props.
7. Casual Starfire And Nightwing Costume

The casual version is the one I'd pick for school events or a long day of walking, because nothing in it pinches. Starfire wears a purple cropped sweatshirt, a tennis skirt, a silver belt, opaque tights and purple high-tops, with a long red ponytail wig, green graphic liner and orange blush. Nightwing wears a black bomber with a blue wing design, a fitted black tee, black jeans, blue-accented sneakers, a simple domino mask and a belt bag at the waist. A translucent green ball or a set of glowing bracelets is her prop. A ponytail wig is easier to manage than a loose one, since it stays out of your face and away from bag straps.
8. College Starfire And Nightwing Costume

The campus version suits anyone who wants a costume that's barely a costume. Starfire wears a purple varsity jacket over a fitted silver tee, a pleated purple skirt, knee socks and clean sneakers, with a high red ponytail wig, green eye makeup, small emerald earrings and a metallic backpack. Nightwing wears a black-and-blue varsity jacket, black crew-neck, straight-leg jeans and dark sneakers, with his domino mask hanging on a lanyard until photo time, a black backpack with a blue wing patch and a utility-style watch. Matching notebooks or student ID props carry the joke. Keep the purple, green, black and blue clear, because without the suits, those colors are what tell people who you are.
9. Streetwear Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Streetwear is the version you'll actually wear again in November. Starfire wears an oversized purple utility jacket, a fitted silver top, purple cargo pants and chunky platform sneakers, with a waist chain, silver cuffs, green sunglasses and a long red wig with two face-framing braids, plus green liner and orange blush. Nightwing wears a black hoodie with a large blue wing, tapered cargo pants, fingerless gloves and black-and-blue high-tops, with a blue face mask or domino mask and a crossbody bag. The braids are smart: they keep a long wig tidy around the face. Translucent green and blue acrylic accessories are the props, and matching cargo shapes and sneakers link the two.
10. Glam Starfire And Nightwing Costume

For a dressy party, turn the characters into evening clothes. Starfire wears a shimmering purple jumpsuit with a fitted waist, silver belt, metallic cuffs and tall platform boots, with a thick red wig in glossy waves, emerald eye makeup, highlighted cheekbones and a berry lip, and a crystal-like green clutch for her energy. Nightwing wears a fitted black suit with a blue satin wing appliqué across the lapels and shoulders, a black shirt, polished boots, blue cuff details, a sleek domino mask and a slim belt bag. Satin appliqué puckers if it's glued to suiting, so have it stitched down with a narrow zigzag. Shine and tailoring make it formal while the purple-and-blue split keeps the characters intact.
11. Metallic Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Metallic fabric looks futuristic, but it also shows every lump, so fit matters more here than anywhere else in the list. Starfire wears a metallic violet bodysuit with silver shoulder pieces, wrist cuffs, a structured belt and matching knee-high boots, emerald resin-style gems at the collar and waist, a flowing copper-red wig, green metallic shadow and luminous orange makeup. Nightwing wears a matte black jumpsuit with an iridescent blue chest emblem, subtle flexible armor panels, black gauntlets, a utility belt, combat-style boots and a metallic blue eye mask. Give her two green LED spheres and him a blue-lit wrist gadget. Keeping his base matte stops the two of you turning into one shiny blur in flash photos.
12. Modest Starfire And Nightwing Costume

A fully covered version loses nothing, because Starfire is read by her hair and colors, not by bare skin. She wears a long-sleeve purple tunic over leggings with silver piping, a wide belt, wrist cuffs and flat knee-high boots, an auburn-red wig with loose curls, green shadow and soft copper makeup, plus a short purple cape for coverage and shape. Nightwing wears a high-neck black athletic suit, or a long-sleeve top and pants, with the blue wing emblem, full gloves, a utility belt, comfortable boots and a blue domino mask. Glowing green and blue wrist pieces replace bulky props. I'd use this one for family events, community celebrations and any cold evening.
13. Plus-Size Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Plus-size costume suits go wrong when the fabric is thin; thin stretch fabric shows every seam and rides up. I'd choose a heavier, matte stretch jumpsuit or a tunic-and-legging set for Starfire, with a clearly defined silver belt, soft foam cuffs, wide-calf boots, a long red wig, emerald eye makeup and warm orange blush. Green gems placed around the neckline pull the eye up toward the face. Nightwing does better in a moisture-wicking black top and flexible pants than in a one-piece suit, with a blue wing panel across the chest, adjustable gloves, a utility belt, boots and a tie-on mask. Her glowing green orb and his blue wrist light finish both, and separate pieces mean each part can be sized on its own.
14. Cold-Weather Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Trick-or-treating in the cold calls for real layers, and this pair takes them well. Starfire wears a purple thermal top, fleece-lined leggings and a belted puffer vest edged in silver, with purple gloves, thick knee socks, weatherproof boots, a long red wig under a purple ear warmer, green eye makeup and an LED necklace. Nightwing wears a black thermal base, a fitted black jacket with the blue wing, lined cargo pants, gloves, waterproof boots and a blue domino mask, with a slim pouch under the jacket. Wigs are surprisingly warm, so the ear warmer is enough for most nights. Colored reusable hand warmers double as glowing props.
15. Warm-Weather Starfire And Nightwing Costume

In a warm climate or a packed room, a full wig and bodysuit will wear you out fast. Starfire wears a breathable purple sleeveless romper over dance shorts, silver cuffs and flat purple ankle boots, with a ventilated red wig or clip-in red extensions, green waterproof liner and a light sweep of bronze-orange makeup in place of full coverage. Nightwing wears a black moisture-wicking tee, slim athletic pants and a stretch-fabric blue emblem, with light gloves, breathable sneakers, a soft domino mask and a running belt. A green folding fan is her prop and cools her down. Sweat loosens tape and glue first, so stitch anything that has to stay put.
16. Comfortable Convention Starfire And Nightwing Costume

A full convention day means standing, queuing, sitting on floors and shifting from hot halls to cold parking lots, and this version plans for all of it. Starfire wears a purple athletic bodysuit with a detachable skirt and flexible foam armor, supportive purple sneakers hidden under removable boot covers, a red wig held by a comfortable grip band, transfer-resistant orange makeup, green liner and light gem accessories. Nightwing wears a breathable black compression top, stretch cargo pants, soft gloves and cushioned black shoes, with a flexible blue emblem that bends when he sits, a fabric mask and an adjustable belt carrying water, snacks and repairs. Put LED props on wrist straps. It looks like a full costume and feels like activewear.
17. Light-Up Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Lights make this pair glow without any scary effects. Starfire wears a deep purple jumpsuit with silver armor accents and green battery lights in the collar, belt and cuffs, with a red ombré wig threaded with orange fiber-optic strands, glowing green eye makeup and two light spheres. Nightwing wears a black suit with a blue electroluminescent-style wing outline, a softly lit domino mask, blue wrist panels, black gloves, a utility belt and sturdy boots. Run all wiring on the inside of the garment and keep battery packs in zipped pouches, because a dangling wire gets caught on the first doorframe. Test every light the day before, with fresh batteries in your bag.
18. EVA Foam Armor Starfire And Nightwing Costume

EVA foam is the right material for anyone who wants real dimension. Starfire wears a purple stretch suit under silver-and-violet shoulder pieces, bracers, a sculpted collar and a paneled belt, with a full red wig, green makeup, emerald-style gems and purple boots with foam covers. Warm the foam gently with a heat gun to shape it, seal it with a flexible primer, then use flexible metallic paint so it doesn't crack. Nightwing layers black and blue foam chest sections over a compression shirt, with arm panels, gloves, a utility belt, black pants, boots and a shaped domino mask. Leave gaps at shoulders, elbows and hips; foam that bridges a joint either restricts you or tears. Translucent colored plastic makes safe energy and gadget props, and sanded edges keep the whole thing looking clean.
19. No-Sew Starfire And Nightwing Costume

No sewing machine, no problem, though no-sew pieces do need more checking before you go out. Starfire starts with a purple tank, fitted shorts or skirt, opaque tights and purple boots, with silver trim stuck on with removable clothing tape, a foam collar and cuffs, a long red wig, green shadow, orange blush and a translucent green ornament as her orb. Nightwing gets a blue adhesive-felt wing across a black athletic shirt, black joggers, gloves, boots and an adjustable belt with small pouches, plus a blue craft-foam mask on elastic. Tape and adhesive grip best on cotton and worst on slick synthetics, so press each piece hard and reinforce the corners with a stitch or a safety pin before leaving.
20. Gender-Swapped Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Swapping genders works because both characters live in their colors and props. A masculine Starfire can wear a fitted purple tunic, silver chest armor, purple pants, metallic cuffs and tall boots, with long red hair or a shoulder-length auburn wig, green eye makeup, warm copper contour and a glowing orb. A feminine Nightwing can wear a black long-sleeve bodysuit with fitted pants, or a short overskirt over leggings, with the sweeping blue emblem, gloves, a utility belt, black boots and a blue domino mask, plus a dark ponytail or short black wig. Keep the palettes and accessories exact and you can change the silhouette as much as you like.
21. Matching Bodysuit Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Matching bodysuits give the sleekest result, but only if the fabric is right. Starfire wears a violet long-sleeve suit with silver side panels, a structured collar, green gems, matching gloves and purple boot covers, with a long red wig fading to orange at the ends, green liner and subtle copper makeup. Nightwing's black suit carries a mirrored blue wing from chest to arms, with black gloves, blue-trimmed boot covers, a utility belt and a soft blue mask. Buy four-way stretch; two-way stretch looks fine standing still and then pulls tight across the seat and knees the moment you sit. Green and blue wrist lights, and panels placed in the same spots on both suits, make you look like one team.
22. Retro Starfire And Disco Nightwing Costume

The retro version leans into the early comic look, including Nightwing's first, very loud costume. Starfire wears a shiny purple halter-style jumpsuit over a fitted coverage layer, silver cuffs, a large green collar gem and purple platform boots, with a huge teased red wig, green shadow and glossy copper makeup. Nightwing wears a blue bodysuit with yellow feather-like chest accents, a high pale-blue collar, matching gloves and blue boots, a black or navy eye mask and a dark feathered wig. That high collar needs stiff interfacing or wire in the edge to stand up. Utility wristbands replace modern armor, and comic fans will enjoy seeing a silhouette nobody else has brought.
23. Red And Purple Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Swapping Nightwing's blue for red gives the pair a warmer, more dramatic look, and it fits because red already runs through Starfire's hair. She stays in a dark purple bodysuit with silver armor, green gems, purple boots and a flowing red wig, emerald liner, copper cheeks and a berry lip. He wears a black athletic suit with a sharp red wing emblem, red-lined gloves, a black utility belt, boots and a black-and-red domino mask. A glowing green prop for her and a red-lit wrist display for him finish it. Match his red to her wig as closely as possible; a cool red emblem beside a warm copper wig looks like an accident.
24. White And Gold Starfire And Nightwing Costume

White and gold is the version I'd suggest for daytime parties and photo sessions in bright light. Starfire wears a white jumpsuit with violet side panels, gold cuffs, a structured gold collar, green gems and white knee-high boots, and her long red wig does the identifying. Emerald eye makeup, copper highlighter and a glowing green sphere finish her. Nightwing wears a white-and-black suit with a metallic blue wing edged in gold, white gloves, a slim gold belt, white boots and a blue eye mask. Small green and blue wrist lights connect the two. Orange body makeup and white fabric are a bad mix, so skip body color or set it heavily if you choose this one.
25. Tactical Starfire And Nightwing Costume

The tactical take makes both characters look ready for a mission while staying practical to wear. Starfire layers a purple fitted top under a sleeveless utility vest with silver panels, with purple cargo pants, metallic cuffs, a gemmed belt, lace-up boots and a red braided wig pinned securely, green graphic liner, copper makeup and a small lit energy disc. Nightwing wears a black performance shirt, reinforced cargo pants, a blue chest harness shaped like his wing, gloves, durable boots, a padded utility belt, a wrist communicator and a flexible blue mask. Fill only the pouches you'll use. Overstuffed pouches bounce, pull belts down and make you look heavier, not tougher.
26. Masquerade Starfire And Nightwing Costume

A masquerade gives the pair formal clothes and a reason for elaborate masks. Starfire wears a floor-length purple dress with a fitted silver bodice, green jewel accents and a split overskirt over opaque leggings, silver cuffs, purple heels, a curled red wig, emerald eye makeup and an ornate green-and-silver mask. Nightwing wears a fitted black tuxedo with blue wing-shaped lapels, a black shirt, polished boots, a detailed blue domino mask and a blue satin sash in place of a utility belt. Give her a glowing green fan and him a small blue light at the cuff. Ornate masks with sticks get tiring to hold, so I'd put hers on a ribbon tie.
27. Formal Gala Starfire And Nightwing Costume

The gala version is ideal for anyone who doesn't want a jumpsuit at all, and most of it goes straight back into your wardrobe afterward. Starfire wears a structured violet pantsuit with a silver corset-style belt over a full-coverage camisole, emerald jewelry, metallic heels, silver cuffs and a long auburn wig swept to one side, with green smoky eyes and copper makeup. Nightwing wears a black suit with a subtle blue wing motif across the shoulders, a black turtleneck, sleek boots, blue cuff accents and a small domino mask. Green and blue clutches styled like futuristic devices are the props. A corset belt digs in if you sit for a long dinner, so fasten it one notch looser than feels right standing up.
28. Prom-Inspired Starfire And Nightwing Costume

For a superhero-themed prom, this is formalwear first and character second. Starfire wears a knee-length purple fit-and-flare dress with silver trim, green gemstone accessories and comfortable block heels, a half-up red wig, emerald liner, orange blush and a glowing green wrist corsage. Nightwing wears a fitted black suit, bright blue shirt, black tie and a blue wing-shaped pocket piece, polished black shoes, a blue domino mask and a utility-style watch, with a blue light-up boutonniere matched to her corsage. A silver belt or cropped purple jacket pushes her dress closer to the character. It's simple to put together and right for family-friendly events.
29. Cyberpunk Starfire And Nightwing Costume

The cyberpunk take uses neon piping and layered street gear to turn the pair into futuristic city heroes. Starfire wears a purple vinyl-look jacket over a fitted black-and-violet jumpsuit, silver harness details and platform boots, with thin green lights woven through a long red braid, graphic emerald eye makeup, copper highlighting, lit cuffs and a clear green energy prop. Nightwing wears a black techwear jacket, fitted cargo pants, blue reflective wing panels, gloves and heavy black boots, with a blue mask edged in light that leaves his vision clear, a crossbody pouch and a blue wrist screen. Vinyl doesn't breathe, so take the jacket off between photos indoors. Keep every wire hidden and the add-ons light.
30. Futuristic Space Starfire And Nightwing Costume

The space version leans on Starfire being from another planet and puts Nightwing in a matching flight suit. She wears a violet jumpsuit with white-and-silver armor panels, glowing green gems, metallic gloves and streamlined boots, her red wig in a high ponytail with orange ends, emerald liner and softly glowing copper makeup. He wears a black flight suit with blue wing-shaped shoulder panels, a structured belt, gloves, boots and a sleek blue eye mask. Matching silver communicator badges on both say "same crew." A green navigation sphere for her and a blue wrist console for him are the props. Clean seams and repeated metallic panels do more here than full armor would.
31. Cute Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Soft and rounded makes for a cute, low-intensity pair. Starfire wears a purple skater dress over fitted shorts, striped lavender tights, silver cuffs and comfortable purple sneakers, with her red wig in bouncy pigtails held by green star clips, bright green liner, peach-orange blush and a plush green orb bag. Nightwing wears a black hoodie with a large blue wing, black joggers, blue gloves and black high-tops, with a soft felt domino mask and a small blue backpack. Pigtails on a wig need a good foundation, so pin the wig cap down at both sides first or the weight pulls it sideways. It's an easy choice for casual parties and theme parks.
32. Minimalist Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Minimalist is harder than it looks, because with fewer pieces each one has to be exactly the right color. Starfire wears a solid purple jumpsuit, a silver waist belt, silver cuffs and purple ankle boots, with a long red wig, green winged liner, warm orange blush, an emerald pendant and a translucent green ball. Nightwing dresses entirely in black: fitted long-sleeve shirt, slim pants, gloves and boots, with one clean blue wing across the chest, a blue domino mask, a narrow belt and a blue wristband. Leave out extra armor, textures and big props. I'd spend the money on a good wig and a crisp emblem, since those are what people notice.
33. Friend Duo Starfire And Nightwing Costume

As a friends' costume, this pair reads as teammates rather than a couple. Starfire's wearer can choose a purple tunic with fitted leggings, silver armor accents, flat boots, a long red wig, green eye makeup, warm copper blush and a glowing green wrist piece. Nightwing's wearer needs a black athletic top and pants with the blue chest emblem, gloves, a utility belt, comfortable boots and a blue domino mask. Match the fabric finishes and keep accessories a similar size so one of you doesn't look half-dressed. Blue-and-green friendship bracelets are a nice personal touch for siblings, roommates or cosplay partners.
34. Halloween Starfire And Nightwing Costume

For a classic Halloween party, keep the characters strong and the materials comfortable. Starfire wears a purple velvet-look dress over opaque tights, silver cuffs, a structured belt and purple knee-high boots, with a dramatic red wig, green shimmer around the eyes, orange blush and a battery green orb. Nightwing wears a black stretch jumpsuit with a vivid blue wing, gloves, boots, a utility belt and a fitted blue mask, plus reflective blue trim so he can be seen on dark streets. Black costumes vanish at night; that reflective trim is worth adding even if it's not canon. Keep makeup transfer-resistant and give every accessory a pocket or wrist strap. It suits families, and it shows up well in bright indoor photos.
35. Color-Block Starfire And Nightwing Costume

Color blocking closes the list, and it's the easiest version to read from across a room. Starfire wears a purple long-sleeve mini dress over matching shorts and tights, with broad silver panels at the shoulders and waist, a bright red wig, green eye makeup, emerald earrings, silver gloves and purple boots. Nightwing wears a black top and fitted pants divided by bold blue panels that form a wing across his torso and arms, with black gloves, boots, a utility belt and a blue mask. One small lit accessory each, in green or blue, is enough. If you sew, piece the blue panels in rather than appliquéing them on top; the result lies flatter and survives washing.
A Red Wig Big Enough for Starfire
Her hair is long, full and bright, and the cheap wigs sold in costume packs tend to be thin, shiny and tangle-prone. A thicker wig with more fiber is worth the extra money here, since it is the single item that identifies her. Synthetic fiber melts or frizzes near heat, so only use a heated tool on a wig labeled heat-resistant, and only on a low setting.
- Brush it from the ends upward with a wide-tooth comb, holding the hair above the section you're working on.
- A light mist of fabric softener diluted in water calms static and frizz on synthetic fiber.
- Pin the wig cap to your own braided or flat-wrapped hair at the temples and nape; a big wig pulls backward otherwise.
- Tease volume at the crown only, then smooth the top layer over it so it looks full rather than matted.
Getting the Blue Wing to Lie Flat on Stretch Fabric
The wing is Nightwing's version of the red wig: if it puckers or peels, the whole costume looks unfinished. Almost every version above puts it on a stretchy black base, and stretch fabric is exactly where stiff appliqué fails. When the shirt stretches across the chest, a stiff emblem either wrinkles or pulls away at the tips.
I get the best result from stretch heat-transfer vinyl pressed on with an iron through a pressing cloth, or from a stretch knit like spandex cut to shape and stitched down with a narrow zigzag that can move with the fabric. Put the shirt on, mark the emblem's position while you're wearing it, then lay it flat to apply. A wing placed on a flat shirt often sits too low once someone is inside it. Felt and craft foam are fine for the quick versions, but stitch around their edges rather than trusting adhesive alone.
Purple Beside Black Does Most of the Work
Every version above, from the comic bodysuit to the prom suit, depends on the same short list: purple, green, silver and red for Starfire, and black with a strong blue for Nightwing. Get those colors right and you can choose a bodysuit, a hoodie, a thrift-store dress or a tuxedo according to your budget, your body and the event. After that, the practical things decide whether you enjoy the night: shoes you can stand in, a wig that's pinned properly, light props with straps, and makeup you've tested on your skin a few days ahead.
