Dressing a whole group shouldn't turn into a second job. The themes I reach for are built on strong colour, ordinary closet basics and a few simple handmade accessories, so five people shopping separately still end up looking like one crew. Some of the ideas below are movie and cartoon casts, some are food or game jokes, and some are old Halloween standbys that stretch from three people to a crowd. Whatever you pick, settle the characters early, share one supply list so nobody buys the same felt twice, and keep everyone in shoes they can stand in all night.

Splitting the Work So One Person Isn't Sewing for Six
In most groups, one keen person ends up making everything the night before. I'd split it up front instead. Once the theme is picked, make three short lists and share them with everyone.
- What each person already owns. Ask for a photo of the shirt or pants in daylight so you can check colours match before anyone buys.
- What one person should buy for everyone. Felt, poster board, hat elastic and fabric glue are cheaper by the pack and the shades stay consistent.
- What each person makes for themselves. Give everyone the same simple pattern, a felt circle or a cardboard shape, so the pieces come out the same size.
Then set a try-on date a few days before the party. It doesn't need to be the full costume. Even a group photo of everyone holding their main piece shows you who's off-colour or whose prop is twice the size of everyone else's, while there's still time to fix it.
1. DIY Crayon Group Costume

A crayon box is the easiest group theme I know to scale: one colour per person, as many people as you like. Each wears a solid T-shirt with leggings, joggers or comfy pants in red, blue, green, yellow, purple or orange, and the crayon label goes across the chest in black felt, removable vinyl or printed paper. Pointed hats from coloured poster board stay on with hat elastic under the chin. Match shadow or face gems to your shade, keep hair loose or in a neat ponytail, and wear white, black or matching sneakers. The thing I check first is that everyone's shirt and pants are close in tone; a red top over maroon joggers looks like two crayons. One person carrying a cardboard box marked as the art-supply case finishes the joke.
2. Colorful Candy Group Costume

Candy gives everyone the same formula with all the colour they want. Each person picks a solid shade and wears it as a T-shirt, sweatshirt, dress or jumpsuit, with a large white felt circle on the front and a small lowercase letter if you like. Repeat the colour above the shoulders with eye makeup, clips or temporary hair spray. Hair spray in pastel shades shows patchy on dark hair, so I'd lean on clips or a scarf for brunettes. White gloves are optional; white sneakers or matching flats keep it light. For photos, carry oversized painted cardboard candies, or a clear tote full of tissue-paper balls.
3. Scooby-Doo Group Costume

The Scooby-Doo gang suits five friends, and anyone extra can come as a mansion guest or a monster. Fred wears a white sweater, blue pants, an orange neck scarf, a blond wig and brown shoes. Daphne takes a purple dress, green scarf, red wig, lavender tights and boots. Velma is an orange sweater, red skirt, knee socks, glasses, a bobbed wig and loafers. Shaggy wears a loose green tee, brown pants, messy hair, light stubble makeup and sneakers, and Scooby a brown sweatsuit with felt spots, floppy ears, face makeup, a blue collar and brown shoes. With five wigs in one room, I'd brush them all out and lightly dust the shiny ones with dry shampoo so they don't glare in flash photos. Magnifying glasses, notebooks and a cardboard Mystery Machine sign tie the crew together.
4. Wizard Of Oz Group Costume

Wizard of Oz comes together largely from thrift-store finds. Dorothy wears a blue gingham dress over a white blouse, braids, rosy makeup and red flats, and carries a little basket. The Scarecrow wears patched brown clothing, a floppy hat, straw-coloured yarn at the cuffs, warm face makeup and boots. The Tin Man is silver clothing, a funnel hat, metallic face paint, silver sneakers and a cardboard heart; metallic paint is the one I'd keep to the cheeks and forehead, because it cracks around the mouth when you talk. The Cowardly Lion wears brown sweats, a yarn mane, whisker makeup, a felt tail and furry boot covers. A green witch or a pink good witch can join a bigger group, and light yellow-brick signs are safe props.
5. Toy Story Group Costume

Toy Story lets everyone take a different character in clothes they can actually wear. Woody is a yellow plaid shirt, jeans, cow-print vest, red bandana, brown hat, boots and neat hair. Buzz wears white pants and a white top with green and purple felt panels, purple headwear and sneakers. Jessie takes jeans, a white Western shirt, a red hat, a braided red wig and boots. Bo Peep wears a pale blue dress, a pink bow, soft makeup and flats, with a foam crook. Foam crooks bend once someone leans on one, so I tape a wooden dowel inside the straight part. Extra friends can be toy soldiers, aliens or a potato-shaped toy. Stick to fabric details over hard plastic pieces.
6. Super Mario Group Costume

A Super Mario crew runs on overalls, bright shirts, coloured caps and shoes you can walk in. Mario wears blue overalls, a red shirt and cap, white gloves, brown boots and a costume mustache, and Luigi copies him in green. Peach wears a pink dress, blond wig, crown, pink makeup, white gloves and flats. Toad takes white pants, a coloured vest, brown shoes and a felt mushroom cap. Yoshi wears a green hoodie and joggers with felt eyes, a white belly panel, simple face makeup and green sneakers. Stick-on mustaches lift at the corners once you start talking and eating, so pack a little spirit gum or lash glue in a pocket. Initials on the caps and cardboard coins or question blocks make the theme obvious in photos.
7. Powerpuff Girls Group Costume

Three friends can do the Powerpuff Girls with plain colour-blocked outfits. Blossom wears a pink dress or pink top and skirt, a black waistband, white knee socks, black shoes, a long red wig and a big red bow. Bubbles repeats the formula in blue with blond pigtails and blue ties. Buttercup wears green with a short black bob. The bow is the one detail I'd overbuild; I cut it from stiff felt or interfacing-backed cotton so it holds its shape all night. Wide cartoon liner, rosy cheeks and white tights in cool weather finish all three, with black flats, loafers or sneakers. Cardboard speech bubbles with a simple expression beat any text nobody can read across a room.
8. Inside Out Emotion Group Costume

Inside Out depends on colour and expression more than anything. Joy wears a yellow dress, blue bob wig, bright eye makeup and yellow flats. Sadness takes a blue sweater and pants, round glasses, a short blue wig, soft blue makeup and sneakers. Anger is a white shirt, red pants, striped tie, red face makeup and dark shoes. Disgust wears a green dress, purple neck scarf, green bob, dramatic lashes and green flats. Fear has purple pants, a patterned vest, bow tie, upright purple hair and purple sneakers. Full red or blue face makeup needs a patch test the day before and a good setting powder, or it ends up on every shirt collar. Extra friends can play Anxiety, Embarrassment, Envy or Ennui, and a clear ornament makes an easy memory orb.
9. Minion Group Costume

Minions are cheap and comfortable and you can add people right up to the last minute. Everyone wears blue overalls over a yellow tee, sweatshirt or long-sleeve top, plus yellow beanies or temporary yellow hair colour, black gloves and black sneakers or boots. Goggles are cardboard rings, silver craft foam and elastic. Craft foam goggles squeeze the face if the elastic's short, so I cut the strap a little long and knot it to fit each head. Keep face makeup to yellow accents. Black pipe-cleaner strands poked through the beanies give each person a different hairstyle. One friend can be Gru in black pants, a charcoal coat, a striped scarf, a bald cap and dark shoes, and felt bananas are the prop.
10. Addams Family Group Costume

The Addams Family is a gothic group that stays polished instead of gory. Wednesday wears a black dress with a white collar, braids, pale makeup, black tights and loafers. Morticia takes a long black dress, a straight black wig, defined eyes, deep red lipstick and low black heels. Gomez wears a dark striped suit, white shirt, bow tie, slicked hair, costume mustache and dress shoes, and Pugsley a black-and-white striped shirt, black shorts or pants, tousled hair and sneakers. Grandmama in dark layers and a grey wig or Fester in a long coat and bald cap can round out a bigger group. Bald caps look obvious at the edge; a thin line of matching foundation along the seam softens it a lot. Black flowers, old books and picture frames are good props.
11. Ghostbusters Group Costume

A Ghostbusters team starts with tan coveralls, or khaki shirts and cargo pants, plus homemade name patches and the ghost emblem in printed paper or felt. Black elbow pads, utility belts and sturdy black boots make it read as a uniform. Hair a bit tousled, neutral makeup with a little grey shadow. The packs are painted cereal boxes, plastic tubing and backpack straps. Keep them light; I've watched heavy packs get abandoned on a chair by ten o'clock. A spare friend can be a friendly ghost in a pale sheet-style poncho, white clothes, white sneakers and shimmery makeup. A cardboard detector is a nice last touch.
12. Clue Character Group Costume

Clue is for six friends who like dressing smartly in colour-coded clothes. Miss Scarlet wears a red dress, red lipstick, curls and black heels. Colonel Mustard takes mustard trousers, a matching jacket, a costume mustache and brown dress shoes. Mrs. Peacock wears blue or teal with a feathered hair piece, blue eye makeup and flats. Professor Plum is a purple blazer, dark trousers, glasses, tidy hair and loafers. Mrs. White wears a black dress, white apron, pinned-up hair and practical shoes, and Mr. Green a green suit or sweater with chinos. Mustard and plum are the hardest shades to find off the rack, so I'd start the thrift hunt with those two. Name cards, notebooks and magnifying glasses stand in for the weapons.
13. Spice Girls Group Costume

Five Spice Girls means five very different outfits from one decade. Sporty wears track pants, an athletic crop over a tank, a high ponytail, natural makeup and sneakers. Baby takes a pastel mini dress over shorts, high pigtails, soft pink makeup and platform sneakers. Scary wears animal print, big curls, strong liner and sturdy boots. Ginger is a red dress with a homemade flag-style panel, red lipstick, teased hair and platforms, and Posh a fitted little black dress, a sleek bob, neutral makeup and heels or flats. Platform shoes are where the night goes wrong, so I tell people to wear them around the house for an evening first. Wire and foam headset mics and small glitter bags tie the group together, and you can lengthen hems or add layers to suit the event.
14. Barbie Career Group Costume

Barbie careers work for any number of friends because everyone picks their own job inside one pink theme. An astronaut wears a white jumpsuit, silver boots, a sleek ponytail and a cardboard helmet. A business executive takes a pink blazer, tailored pants, glasses, polished makeup and pumps. A vet wears pink scrubs, sneakers, neat hair and carries a plush animal. A roller skater does colourful shorts, knee pads and a visor, but in sneakers rather than skates indoors. A chef wears a pink apron, white pants, a chef hat and clogs with a cardboard cupcake. Pinks clash more than people expect, so I have the group agree on one pink, either bubblegum or hot, and stick to it. Smooth hair, cheerful makeup and heart accessories keep everyone connected.
15. Disney Princess Group Costume

For a princess group, I let each person pick a character and turn the gown into comfortable separates. Cinderella wears a pale blue dress, a blond updo, a blue headband, shimmery makeup and silver flats. Belle takes a yellow dress, half-up brown hair, a red rose and brown or gold shoes. Ariel pairs a purple top with a green skirt, a long red wig, pearly makeup and flats. Snow White wears a blue top, yellow skirt, red bow, short dark wig, red lipstick and low heels, and Jasmine a turquoise jumpsuit, a long dark ponytail, gold accessories and sandals. Rapunzel, Tiana or Aurora can join a larger group. Lightweight crowns slide off long hair, so a pair of bobby pins through each side is worth it.
16. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Group Costume

Four friends can make Ninja Turtles from matching green basics. Start with green tees, hoodies or fitted sweatshirts and green joggers or leggings, then add yellow felt belly panels and light cardboard shells on the back. The eye masks carry the names: blue for Leonardo, purple for Donatello, red for Raphael and orange for Michelangelo. I cut the masks from knit fabric rather than felt, since knit stretches round the head without slipping. Tuck hair under green beanies or add green accents, and keep face makeup to the cheeks. Brown belts, wristbands, knee pads and green or brown sneakers finish it. Pizza boxes, foam sticks or name signs are better props than anything that looks like martial-arts gear.
17. Pac-Man Ghost Group Costume

Pac-Man and the ghosts can be pulled together the night before. Pac-Man wears a yellow tee and pants, a yellow cap, round cheek makeup and yellow sneakers. Everyone else picks a ghost colour, red, pink, blue or orange, and wears an oversized tee in it over leggings or joggers, with a scalloped felt strip stitched to the bottom hem and big white-and-blue felt eyes on the front or on a headband. A scalloped hem only looks right if the points are even, so I fold the strip and cut several at once. Match shadow and clips to each ghost, and keep everyone in white sneakers. Cardboard dots, cherries or maze tiles make good photo props, and more friends can join as extra ghosts or fruit.
18. Care Bears Group Costume

Care Bears are soft and cheerful and run on monochrome sweatsuits in pastel or rainbow colours. Each person cuts a big white felt belly circle and adds their own symbol: heart, rainbow, star, cloud or flower. Rounded felt ears go on a matching headband or hood, with coordinating shadow, rosy cheeks and a small heart painted on the nose. Hair can be natural, in buns or under a matching beanie. White gloves, colourful sneakers and a tiny felt tail finish it. Felt ears flop on a thin headband, so I sew a second layer of felt or a strip of interfacing inside each one. Sweatsuits hide warm layers, so this is a good one for an outdoor night.
19. Teletubbies Group Costume

Teletubbies is an easy four-person costume because every character uses the same outfit. Assign purple, green, yellow and red, and have each person wear a matching hoodie and joggers with a light grey felt square on the tummy. Each antenna is felt-covered pipe cleaner or craft foam fixed to a headband in the same colour. Rosy cheeks, a little highlighter and shadow in your colour keep makeup light, and matching gloves and sneakers carry the colour head to toe. Tall antennas catch on door frames, so I keep them flexible enough to bend and spring back. A cardboard sun prop or a little painted vacuum makes a fun extra.
20. Fruit Salad Group Costume

Fruit salad brings colour without any special clothing. The strawberry wears a red dress or red separates with black felt seeds, a green leaf headband, rosy makeup and red shoes. The pineapple wears yellow marked with brown diagonal lines, a tall green paper-leaf crown, golden makeup and neutral sneakers. Grapes are purple clothes with small purple balloons tied loosely to a vest, a green stem headband and purple shoes. Balloons pop in a crowd and lose air overnight, so I'd blow them up on the day and bring a few spares, or swap them for stuffed felt circles. The watermelon wears pink and green with black seeds and green flats. Add an orange, banana, apple or kiwi for more people, and a cardboard bowl sign explains the theme.
21. Weather Forecast Group Costume

A weather forecast is a clever pick for coworkers, families or big friend groups. Sunny wears yellow, a sun-ray headband, golden eye makeup and yellow sneakers. Cloud wears a grey sweatshirt covered in soft batting, silver makeup, white clips and grey shoes; I stitch the batting on in loose tufts, because glued batting flattens and pills by the end of the night. Rain wears blue with felt raindrops hanging from an umbrella, blue shadow and rain boots. Rainbow takes multicoloured separates, bright ribbons and white sneakers, and Wind wears pale blue and white layers with flowing fabric strips and windswept hair. A meteorologist in business casual can carry a cardboard map and pointer. Fasten every attachment firmly.
22. Farmer And Farm Animal Group Costume

Farmer and farm animals suits a mixed group because there's no limit on animals. Farmers wear plaid shirts, denim overalls, straw hats, braids or tied hair, freckles and boots, carrying light baskets. The cow wears black and white with felt ears and spots, nose makeup, a tail and black shoes. The pig takes pink sweats, a pig-ear headband, a round nose, a curled felt tail and pink sneakers, and the sheep white clothing covered in soft cotton-wool clusters, rounded ears and neutral shoes. Cotton wool sheds fluff on everything, so I'd sew on white pom-poms or fleece circles instead. A horse, chick or spotted dog can join a bigger group. Plush vegetables, felt hay and cardboard barn signs photograph well.
23. Skeleton Crew Group Costume

A skeleton crew is a classic that only needs black clothes and white fabric paint. Each person wears a black long-sleeve shirt with black pants, leggings or a jumpsuit, plus bones made from felt, removable tape or painted cardboard fixed firmly to the fabric. For the skull, I use white around the eyes, nose and cheekbones and leave the rest of the face bare; it's quicker and it doesn't crack. Slick hair back, braid it or dust it with temporary white colour, and wear black gloves painted with finger bones and black boots or sneakers. Give each skeleton one personal piece: a bow tie, flower crown, top hat or colourful scarf. Reflective white details matter if you're walking outside after dark.
24. Colorful Witch Group Costume

Rather than six identical black witches, give each person a jewel tone. Start with a purple, green, navy, burgundy or black dress over warm tights, then add a matching cape, a pointed hat and buckled ankle boots. Hair can be waves, braids or a coloured wig, with shadow and lipstick picked to suit the shade. Each witch can carry a little broom made from a dowel and raffia, a spellbook or a bottle of glitter water; I hot-glue the bottle cap shut, because glitter water always ends up opened. Keep the theme light with stars, moons, ribbons and faux flowers. Matching the hat shape across the group is what pulls the different dresses together in photos.
25. Glam Vampire Group Costume

A vampire group can be dramatic without any scary makeup. Base outfits are black trousers, velvet skirts, fitted dresses, white shirts or waistcoats, each layered with a red, purple or black cape. Hair goes into glossy waves, slicked-back shapes or updos, with dark wigs if you want them. Makeup is pale foundation, soft smoky eyes, defined brows and deep berry lips. Fangs are optional, and I'd only wear the kind you can pop out easily to eat. Boots, loafers or low heels suit most venues. Add jewelled chokers, lace gloves, brooches and old-looking books. Agree on one shared red accent so the whole group reads together, and let everyone choose the rest.
26. Classic Pirate Crew Costume

A family-friendly pirate crew comes from loose white shirts, striped tops, dark pants, vests and long skirts. Tie red, blue or black scarves round the waist and add faux-leather belts. Hair can be tousled, braided or under a bandana and soft tricorn hat, with smudged liner, bronzer or a costume mustache. Brown boots are best, though black sneakers are kinder on a long night. Costume jewellery, small pouches, maps, compasses and paper-tube telescopes add detail, and the captain gets a longer coat and a feathered hat. Waist sashes slip down as you move, so I pin them to the belt loops at the sides. Leave weapons at home and carry gold cardboard coins or a small treasure box instead.
27. Circus Performer Group Costume

A circus group gives you a ringmaster, a clown, a strongman, an acrobat and a ticket seller. The ringmaster wears black pants, a red blazer, a gold-trimmed vest, a top hat, styled hair, polished makeup and boots. The clown takes bright overalls, a striped shirt, a colourful wig, cheerful face makeup and oversized sneakers. The strongman wears a striped top, dark shorts over leggings, a curled mustache and lace-up boots with a foam barbell. The acrobat wears a modest sparkly unitard under a skirt or shorts, a high ponytail, glitter makeup and flats, and the ticket seller a red vest, bow tie, small cap and loafers. Glitter makeup travels to everyone you hug, so I press it on over a bit of glitter glue rather than dusting it loose. Hoops, tickets and pennants are light props.
28. Astronaut And Alien Group Costume

Astronauts and aliens can stretch to almost any group size. Astronauts wear white coveralls or white pants and sweatshirts decorated with silver tape, mission patches and control-panel shapes, plus silver boots, sleek hair and shimmery makeup. The helmet is a white cap with a clear craft-plastic visor, which I'd trim short so it doesn't fog or bump into cups. Aliens wear green, blue or metallic clothing with antenna headbands, space buns, iridescent eye makeup and matching sneakers. One friend can be a robot in grey with flat cardboard panels. Foam planets, cardboard moon rocks or a flag for your made-up mission tie it together. Skip bulky boxes so everyone can sit and move.
29. Rock Paper Scissors Group Costume

Rock Paper Scissors is a quick, funny trio made from grey and white basics. Rock wears grey sweats with textured grey felt shapes on a light vest, grey hair spray, silver makeup and grey sneakers. Paper wears all white with a flat rectangular front panel ruled with thin blue lines, simple makeup, sleek hair and white shoes. Scissors wears silver or grey with a metallic headband, bright silver eye makeup and black sneakers, plus oversized foam-board handles. Attach the handles to the outfit rather than carrying them, and round the corners so they don't jab anyone. The fun is posing in different match-ups all night, and six people can make two sets.
30. Condiment Bottle Group Costume

Condiment bottles work with oversized tees, tunics or simple felt tabards. Yellow is mustard, red is ketchup, green is relish and white is mayo, each with a contrasting label panel and the name or a small food symbol. The cone caps are poster board on headbands. A tabard, just a front and back panel joined at the shoulders, is my favourite here because it goes over any warm layer and takes ten minutes to cut. Match eye makeup, hair pieces, leggings and sneakers to each colour, and carry cardboard foods like a burger, pretzel, taco or fries. Someone can be the diner server in a checked apron, paper hat and white shoes. It's a handy theme when people join at the last minute.
31. Domino Group Costume

Dominoes look sharp in photos and use almost nothing. Everyone wears a black tee, sweatshirt, dress or jumpsuit with black pants or tights, plus white felt circles in a different dot pattern for each person and a horizontal white line across the middle. I lay the dots out on the shirt with tailor's chalk first, because a crooked domino is very obvious in a row. Keep hair sleek or tied back, with black-and-white liner, a small dot near one eye and neutral lipstick. Black sneakers, loafers or boots, and optional white gloves to show up against the black. Line up in a curve for photos, or stage a falling-domino moment. The felt dots come off afterward, so the clothes go back in the closet.
32. Traffic Light Group Costume

Three friends become a traffic light by dressing head to toe in red, yellow and green. Each wears a solid shirt with matching pants, skirt or dress, a large black felt rectangle on the torso and one bright circle in the middle. Add a matching headband, shadow, ribbon and sneakers. A fourth can be the crossing guard in a reflective vest, dark pants, a cap and comfy shoes, and a fifth a crossing sign in black and white. Big felt rectangles sag on soft knits, so I back them with iron-on interfacing to keep them flat. Small foam-board road signs suit indoor rooms. There's no tricky sewing, and it's a sensible choice for school days.
33. Tourist Group Costume

A tourist group wears deliberately mismatched holiday clothing. Tropical shirts, cargo shorts, sun or bucket hats and khaki pants make the base, with socks and sandals or bright walking sneakers depending on how far you want to push it. Hair goes under visors, makeup stays fresh, and a stripe of costume-safe white on the nose stands in for sunscreen. Everyone carries something: a map, camera, binoculars, postcard, small backpack or water bottle. Matching lanyards and homemade tour badges are what make a group of random holiday outfits read as one tour, so I'd never skip them. One friend can be the guide in a polo, cap and headset mic with a small flag. Keep the joke on the travel gear, not on any group of people.
34. Sleepover Pajama Group Costume

A sleepover party is as comfortable as costumes get. Everyone wears matching pajama sets, robes or different pajamas in one shared palette, plus fuzzy socks, slippers with proper soles, sleep masks pushed up as headbands and soft scrunchies. Hair goes into loose braids, heatless curls, messy buns or pigtails, with under-eye gel patches, rosy cheeks and lip balm. Pillows, plushies, popcorn tubs, magazines or small blankets make photo props. One person might wear moons while others choose stars, clouds, stripes or checks. Long robe belts and loose slippers are trip hazards on stairs, so check both before you go. It's a natural fit for indoor parties, classrooms and casual office days.
35. Garden Gnome Group Costume

A row of garden gnomes needs bright tops, neutral bottoms and tall pointed hats. Each person wears a bright tunic, sweater or dress with brown pants, leggings or a simple skirt. The hats are red, blue, green or yellow felt, stuffed lightly so they stand; I put a little fibrefill only in the top third, which keeps the hat upright without making it top-heavy. White yarn beards for some, braids or pigtails for others, with rosy cheeks, freckles and a highlighted nose. Brown boots or loafers suit the theme. Tiny watering cans, faux flowers, cardboard mushrooms or small baskets work as props, and one friend in green with flowers can be the garden.
When Someone Drops Out or Three More Show Up
Group plans change. Someone gets sick, or a roommate brings two friends. I like themes that bend either way, and most of the ones above do.
If you lose a person, pick a theme where no single character is missing a big piece of the story. A crayon box, candy, dominoes, condiments or witches in different colours look complete with four or with ten. Casts like the Scooby gang or the Powerpuff Girls feel a gap when one character goes missing, so have a backup like a second Velma's glasses in a bag.
If extra people turn up, give them a role that needs almost nothing. A ghost for the Ghostbusters, a crossing guard for the traffic light, a server for the condiments or a meteorologist for the weather can be made from one item and some clothes they're already wearing.
Wigs That Don't Look Like Plastic in Photos
Plenty of these groups lean on bright wigs, and cheap wigs share the same faults: they shine under flash, shed and tangle at the neck. A few minutes of prep fixes most of it. Brush the wig out with a wide-tooth comb before the night, starting from the ends. Dust the shine down with dry shampoo or a little baby powder. Keep it away from candles, ovens and hairdryers, because synthetic fibre frizzes or melts with heat. A wig cap underneath keeps your own hair flat and the wig steady. If someone won't wear a wig at all, a coloured headband, a bow or a hat in the character's shade carries more than you'd think.
One Group Chat, One Theme, Everyone Comfortable
Get everyone to agree on budget, comfort and effort before anyone spends money; that one conversation saves most group costumes. Pick a theme with enough characters or colours for the whole crew and assign them early. Closet basics, thrifted pieces, felt, poster board and washable makeup cover nearly everything. Repeating one accessory, colour palette or shoe style makes separately made costumes look planned. Keep props light, shoes walkable and anything over the face easy to remove. And let each person adjust the theme to their size, age and comfort. A good group costume reads clearly in photos and still lets everyone enjoy the party.
