Stella is the sun fairy of the Winx Club and the princess of Solaria, and she changes outfits more often than anyone else in the show. That's good news if you're dressing as her, because there's a version for every budget and skill level. A few constants make her read: very long blonde hair, a sun motif somewhere (usually her ring), sparkly wings for the transformations, and a palette built on orange and yellow with pink, green or blue as the accent. A full transformation with custom wings is a real sewing project, while her casual looks come together from thrifted clothes in an afternoon. For each of the thirty looks below I've covered the clothes, hair, makeup and props, and where I'd adjust skirt lengths, heels or fit so you can wear it for hours.

Getting Her Long Blonde Hair Right
On every Stella look, the hair does more character work than the clothes. Hers is very long, a warm golden blonde rather than platinum, and nearly always pulled into high pigtails or a high ponytail with side-swept bangs. A short wig or a cool ash blonde makes people guess at a different character.
I'd buy a heat-resistant synthetic wig that reaches at least to the waist. Long cheap wigs tangle at the ends within an hour, and heat-resistant fiber lets you smooth the lengths with a low iron and shape the bangs. Before styling, comb it gently from the ends upward with a wide-tooth comb, one section at a time.
High pigtails that don't droop
- Put on a wig cap first and pin your own hair flat underneath, so the pigtails have something to anchor to.
- Gather each pigtail higher than feels right, close to the crown, and wrap it with a plain elastic before the orange tie goes on top.
- Push two bobby pins through the base of each pigtail into the wig cap, crossed in an X.
- If the wig looks thin at the parting, a long clip-on ponytail on each side gives the volume her pigtails have on screen.
Trim the bangs only once the wig is on your head, and cut less than you think you need. Synthetic fiber doesn't grow back.
1. Classic Magic Winx Stella Costume

Her first transformation is the one most fans picture, and it's also the simplest to sew. A sparkly orange one-shoulder crop top and matching fitted shorts form the base. Tall orange platform boots are accurate, but knee-high boot covers over shoes you can walk in get you most of the way. Light blue wrist cuffs, a blue headband and translucent blue-green wings bring in her contrast color. Put the long blonde wig into two high pigtails with orange ties; I set them slightly higher than feels natural, because they always slide down as the evening goes on. Peach blush, gold shadow, glossy pink lips and a little face shimmer cover the makeup. Make the big turquoise sun ring from foam or painted cardboard so it stays light on your finger.
2. Charmix Stella Costume

Charmix is her first look with add-ons, so you can build it straight on top of a Magic Winx costume if you already own one. The base is an asymmetrical orange crop top, fitted orange shorts and tall matching boots, with light blue cuffs and a blue headband. The upgrade shows in two pieces: a small sun-shaped brooch on the chest and a structured orange or turquoise hip bag. I make both from craft foam faced with felt, which holds its shape and won't dig in when you sit. Use three-panel translucent wings with teal edging, and keep the pigtails high and tight with orange bands. Gold shimmer around the eyes, peach blush and a little sparkling body gel finish the face, and the large blue sun ring stays as her prop.
3. Enchantix Stella Costume

Enchantix is the look people choose when they want a proper sewing project. It's a fitted golden-yellow mini dress with layered orange panels, sparkling trim and a softly pointed hem, plus pink or coral ribbon at the bodice and waist. Enchantix fairies go barefoot with jewels at the feet, so the wearable version is nude flats with rhinestones and ribbons wrapped around the ankle. Wrap those ribbons firmly but not tight, and tuck the ends in, or they work loose as you walk. Curl a blonde wig into long pigtails with side-swept bangs. The large butterfly-shaped wings in orange, pink, turquoise and pale blue give the transformation its outline. Add a small fairy-dust pendant, gold body shimmer, warm pink makeup and crystal earrings. Flexible wings and flat shoes make all this much easier to manage in a crowd.
4. Believix Stella Costume

Believix is all layers, so don't look for one orange garment to do the job. Start with a peach or coral crop top under a structured orange bustier, then a short green-and-orange ruffled skirt with a decorative ribbon belt. Yellow or orange knee-high platform boots give her the cartoon proportions. Use stretch fabric for the fitted layers; a woven bustier with no give gaps at the top when you raise your arms. Wear the hair in two loose, voluminous ponytails with star-shaped ties. The wings mix orange, yellow, pink and green in curved sections. Pink arm warmers, colorful bangles, star earrings and the sun ring go on next, with pink lipstick, orange-gold shadow and highlighted cheeks. Keep the glitter to a little near the temples, since it travels everywhere once you start moving.
5. Sophix Stella Costume

Sophix brings greens and flowers into her solar palette. Layer a fitted peach crop top under an orange bralette-style top, then add a short skirt of alternating green and orange ruffles, with narrow orange ribbons at the waist that move as you walk. The shoes are yellow flat sandals with soft green vines wound up the calves and fabric flowers attached along them. I'd sew or clip those flowers onto the vine rather than gluing them, because glued flowers on a moving leg drop off one by one through the night. Puffy pink arm cuffs and green armbands add more color. Leave the wig loose with small side sections tied in pink and green. Green-and-pink wings, rosy makeup, gold shimmer and flower earrings finish her.
6. Lovix Stella Costume

Lovix is the one I'd suggest for a cold night, because it's essentially a winter outfit with wings. A fitted pink mini dress goes under a cropped orange off-the-shoulder jacket with white faux-fur trim. Add a loose orange belt, a strand of blue waist beads and neon pink knee-high socks, with orange boots that have pink heels and fluffy cuffs. Full ponytails tied with white fuzzy scrunchies, a white faux-fur scarf and orange fingerless gloves carry the cozy theme. The wings are simple crystal shapes in orange, pink and golden yellow; keep them light so they don't tug the jacket off your shoulders. Icy pink shadow, pearly highlighter and glossy lips suit the palette. Use synthetic trim only, and shake new faux fur out well outdoors first, because it sheds on everything at the start.
7. Harmonix Stella Costume

Harmonix is an underwater transformation made of floating layers. Start with a light yellow fitted top edged in pink lace with slim orange ribbon details, then a layered yellow tutu skirt over a long ruffled train. Put the train on snaps so it comes off in crowded rooms, because a long train in a busy hallway gets stood on within minutes. An orange-and-magenta braided belt separates bodice and skirt. Wear burgundy or dark pink heels with ribbons wrapped carefully around the calves. A long blonde wig in a thick braided ponytail, an orange headband with a pink seashell ornament and layered wings in orange, pink and purple give her the right shape. Pearly pink eyes, coral lips and small shell earrings tie it back to the sea.
8. Sirenix Stella Costume

Sirenix is more athletic than most of her looks, which makes it surprisingly practical to wear. An orange one-shoulder crop top with pink cutouts or sheer side panels goes over fitted orange leggings with purple crisscross details, and a translucent purple ruffled overskirt sits on top. Orange ankle boots with purple soles mean no heels to worry about. The hair detail fans spot is the bold purple streak; a clip-in streak inside a high, textured ponytail is far easier than coloring a wig. Fin-shaped wings in pink, orange, purple and pale blue, seashell earrings, glittery wrist cuffs and a small ocean charm follow. Lavender eyes, coral blush and iridescent highlighter give the underwater glow, and the soft organza ruffles let you dance in it.
9. Bloomix Stella Costume

Bloomix has a warrior feel to it. Use a fitted orange-and-gold mini dress with layered panels, scale-like texture and curved shoulder accents, with pink or purple sparkle at the neckline and waist. I cut those shoulder pieces from thin craft foam and curve them with gentle heat; stiff card won't follow the shoulder and digs in when you lift your arms. Gold cuff bracelets, gem earrings and decorative leg bands add detail without weight. A high ponytail with several small braids near the crown keeps the hair off the wings, and orange or gold ankle boots with stable heels hold you steady. Large wings in yellow, orange, pink and turquoise go on last, with gold eyeliner, peach lipstick and luminous cheeks.
10. Mythix Stella Costume

Mythix reads like a storybook princess. Choose a strapless orange mini dress with a fitted bodice, flared layered skirt and glittering yellow trim, then add a sheer golden overskirt or short cape panel behind for movement. Strapless needs structure: if your dress has no boning, a strip of silicone gripper elastic sewn inside the top edge stops it sliding down. Wear orange heels or embellished ballet flats, depending on how long you'll be standing. A polished high ponytail with curled ends and a sparkling gold headpiece suits the dress. Her prop is a light star-topped wand made from foam, ribbon and acrylic gems. Delicate wings in orange, yellow, pink and lavender, gold shadow, pink lips, sun earrings and a few rhinestones at the outer eye corners finish it.
11. Butterflix Stella Costume

Butterflix suits every age, which is why I'd steer families and younger fans toward it. A fitted yellow-and-orange dress with a petal-shaped skirt and pink butterfly patterns is the base, with translucent pale orange sleeves or shoulder drapes. Yellow or coral shoes with removable butterfly clips, a high bun or ponytail with curled pieces framing the face, a floral waist decoration, delicate bracelets and butterfly earrings are the details. The wings need clearly separated panels of yellow, orange, pink and sky blue. Foam-backed wings sit far more comfortably than heavy wire ones over a long day. Keep the makeup soft with peach shadow, pink blush, glossy lips and a few tiny butterfly decals near one temple.
12. Tynix Stella Costume

Tynix is all crystal facets. Choose an orange or coral mini dress with angular pink panels, iridescent fabric and faceted gem decorations, and add a structured peplum or crystal-shaped hip pieces for the shape. Pink-and-orange heels work, or you can customize ankle boots with adhesive gems and holographic vinyl. Stick-on gems pop off at the toe crease first, so I keep them to the sides and heel of the boot. A long curled ponytail with a jeweled piece above one ear, crystalline wings cut from translucent sheets in orange, yellow, pink and lavender, geometric earrings, wrist cuffs and a large costume gem at the neckline round it out. Iridescent eyes and a few face gems carry the theme. Sand or round off the points of every homemade crystal, or they'll scratch you and whoever stands next to you.
13. Cosmix Stella Costume

Cosmix plays up her connection to the sun and stars. Wear a structured yellow-and-orange romper or short dress with flared hip panels and sparkling cosmic patterns; pink piping, silver trim and small star appliqués can make a plain garment look futuristic. Orange platform ankle boots with block heels keep you stable. Smooth the long blonde hair into a high ponytail with curled ends and gold star clips. Wide geometric wings in yellow, pink, lavender and turquoise, star earrings, metallic cuffs and a small planet-shaped purse are the extras. Use golden shadow, pink eyeliner and highlighter, and stop before the face turns into one big glitter patch. Holographic fabric catches both indoor lighting and daylight, so it earns its place on this one.
14. Dreamix Stella Costume

Dreamix has the sleekest line of all her looks, and it suits anyone comfortable in a bodysuit. Start with an orange strapless jumpsuit or fitted bodysuit over opaque matching tights. Glittering magenta bands wrap the waist, neckline and upper arms, and pink-to-yellow organza strips hang from one shoulder and the opposite hip. Tack each strip down firmly at the top and hem it short enough to clear your feet, since loose organza under a heel is a fall waiting to happen. Orange open-toe heels or dance shoes covered in matching fabric go on the feet. The wig should be extremely long and straight, with clean side-parted bangs and a jeweled magenta piece. Large crystalline wings in purple, gold and pink, diamond-shaped earrings, rosy lips and metallic eyes complete her.
15. Onyrix Stella Costume

Onyrix is the rare Stella look in cool blues, which makes it a good choice if orange doesn't flatter you. Choose a sparkling teal bodysuit or jumpsuit with long sleeves, star-shaped cutouts and translucent blue panels, with slit overskirt pieces or wide sashes at the hips. The belt of blue star-shaped flowers in mixed sizes is the detail that makes it accurate. Put nude mesh behind the cutouts; it gives coverage and stops the cut edges rolling. A high ponytail with two small braids and side-swept bangs, slate-blue heels or glittering ankle boots, star-shaped wings in white, lavender and light blue, and dangling blue earrings with a matching necklace finish the outfit. Blue shimmer and pale pink lips keep the face fresh.
16. Season 1 Casual Stella Costume

If you want Stella without wings, her early casual wardrobe is pure Y2K and easy to find secondhand. Pair a fitted green crop top with an orange mini skirt and a contrasting blue or turquoise belt. Green platform sandals, wedge boots or low block heels all fit the era, so wear whatever you can walk in. The wig matters most here: a long blonde one with side-swept bangs does the character work that wings do elsewhere. Add a small orange shoulder bag, oversized hoops, colorful bangles and the turquoise sun ring. Peach blush, glossy pink lips and pale blue shadow suit the early-2000s makeup. For more coverage, a fitted green tank and an orange skort keep the same bright colors.
17. Season 2 Casual Stella Costume

This is my low-effort favorite. Wear a colorful fitted top in orange, green or pink with a short coordinating skirt and a decorative belt. Knee-high socks or fitted leg warmers with comfortable platform sneakers keep it walkable all day. Leave the hair straight with side bangs and colorful clips or a narrow headband. A miniature shoulder bag, stacked bracelets, hoop earrings and a sun-shaped ring are the accessories. Pastel shadow, mascara, rosy cheeks and glossy lips keep the makeup young. Small clip-on wings help people place the character without anything bulky to carry. Thrift and resale shops are where I'd hunt for the bright Y2K pieces this version needs.
18. Princess Of Solaria Stella Costume

For a royal Stella rather than a fairy, her Princess of Solaria outfit is an orange floor-length skirt with a matching fitted top and pale blue shoulder ribbons, joined by a wide blue belt or jeweled waistband. Orange wedges, platform sandals or low heels keep it walkable. Check the skirt length in the shoes you'll actually wear, because a floor-length hem is only right at one heel height. Leave the hair loose in soft curls with a delicate silver sun-shaped crown near the front, pinned through the wig into the cap underneath so it doesn't slide back. Small translucent wings are optional; the dress reads as royal without them. Carry a gold sun medallion or jeweled clutch, and wear warm gold shadow, peach blush, pink lipstick and sparkling earrings.
19. Formal Dance Stella Costume

Her formal dance look is one you could wear to a real occasion afterward. A flowing orange maxi dress with a fitted bodice and a blue jewel at the center is the whole base, with a lightweight turquoise scarf around the shoulders or neck. A narrow headband in orange, blue and purple ties it to the cartoon. Orange wedges or metallic gold sandals go underneath, and the hair stays smooth with gently curled ends. Blue drop earrings, a sun-shaped ring and a small handbag are enough. Soft gold eyes, peach blush and a coral-pink lip keep her warm palette. Choose a hem that clears the floor in your shoes, so nobody steps on it while you dance.
20. Stella Disco Costume

The disco version is built for dancing. Wear an orange or yellow mini dress with a fitted bodice, flared skirt and reflective sequins, with a short pink or turquoise jacket over it. Line the jacket or pick one with soft cuffs, because sequins scratch the inside of the arms and neckline over a night of moving. White or orange platform boots with a stable sole, big voluminous curls with star clips on one side, and a small pair of colorful wings keep it practical in a crowd. Star earrings, metallic bracelets and a round sun purse finish the outfit, with gold shimmer on the lids, pink blush and glossy coral lips.
21. Stella Beach Fairy Costume

A beach Stella should look sunny while keeping you securely covered. Begin with an orange one-piece swimsuit or fitted bodysuit and a green-and-yellow wrap skirt tied firmly at the waist; I add a safety pin inside the wrap, because a knot alone loosens with walking. Flat orange sandals with removable rhinestones and a high ponytail or loose waves held back with a colorful head scarf come next. A turquoise sun necklace, bright bracelets, oversized sunglasses and a woven orange tote carry the beach theme, and small translucent wings are optional. Waterproof gold shadow, tinted lip balm and subtle body shimmer cope with the heat. For a party rather than the beach, nude tights and fitted shorts under the wrap make it more comfortable.
22. Stella Winter Outfit Costume

Here's a wearable cold-weather Stella that doesn't simply repeat Lovix. An orange puffer jacket goes over a fitted pink sweater dress and bright yellow tights, with white faux-fur cuffs, a turquoise scarf and orange snow boots or flat knee-high boots. Wear the wig in two low ponytails tied with fluffy white bands. Size the jacket to close over the dress without pulling, and attach small crystal-shaped wings to it with hidden straps so they come off when you sit in a car or step indoors. Pink gloves, a sun-shaped crossbody bag and star earrings finish the outfit, with icy lavender shadow, rosy cheeks and glossy pink lips.
23. Stella Pajama Costume

This is one of the easiest Stella costumes to sew at home, and the comfiest for a sleepover or casual party. A loose lavender off-the-shoulder top with a large yellow star on the chest pairs with matching lavender lounge pants trimmed in yellow. You can paint the star on with fabric paint, though I find a felt star stitched around its edge survives the wash better. Soft purple slippers with small star decorations work indoors; switch to purple sneakers if you'll be outside. A relaxed high ponytail with a yellow scrunchie, a padded sleep mask, star earrings and a small sun pillow make playful props. Keep the makeup minimal: pale purple shadow, rosy blush and tinted balm.
24. Stella Concert Costume

The concert look is about movement, so build it to dance in. A sparkling orange crop top and a layered pink-and-yellow mini skirt go over fitted shorts, with turquoise arm cuffs and orange knee-high platform boots, or supportive dance sneakers in the same color. A high ponytail with glittering star clips and lightweight wings in orange, pink and blue keep it fairy without restricting your arms. Carry a toy microphone decorated with rhinestones and ribbon, or wear a headset-style one so both hands stay free for posing. Bold gold shadow, winged liner, peach blush and glossy pink lips suit a stage. I stitch the skirt layers to the waistband rather than trusting elastic alone, and test the wing straps by jumping on the spot.
25. Stella Retro Chic Costume

This retro look is the subtlest Stella on the list. A teal mini or knee-length dress printed with orange, purple and white flowers, with a fitted bodice, defined waist and gently flared skirt, sets the vintage shape. Orange heels or low block-heel pumps, matching earrings and a structured handbag go with it. A smooth high ponytail or flipped ends with an orange headband, black eyeliner, peach blush and coral lipstick finish the styling. The turquoise sun ring is the only clear character reference, so wear it on the hand people will see. For comfort, opaque shorts under the dress and cushioned insoles in the shoes make a long event easier.
26. Gothic Stella Costume

A gothic Stella can stay playful rather than frightening. Wear a fitted purple-and-black dress with a cobweb-patterned overlay, a layered knee-length skirt and sheer sleeves, plus a translucent purple veil or short cape at the shoulders. Black tights and purple ankle boots give coverage and stable footing. Loose curls with a black-and-purple headband or a small fascinator keep her hair recognizable. Her wings switch to dark translucent ones with silver web lines, and sparkling purple fabric with rhinestone webs keeps some magic in it. A sun-shaped choker, silver bracelets, plum shadow and berry lipstick suit the dark colors. I'd skip heavy face paint altogether, because the fun of this costume is that Stella is still clearly sunny under the black.
27. Stella Fairy Ballerina Costume

The fairy ballerina pairs her solar palette with a stage shape. A fitted orange leotard goes under a layered yellow, pink and coral tutu, with a glittering turquoise waistband and small sun appliqués around the skirt. Pink ballet flats with orange ankle ribbons are comfortable, provided the ribbons are tied loosely enough to let the ankle flex. A smooth high bun with a sparkling orange hairpiece, a small jeweled tiara and matching wrist cuffs are the accessories. Keep the wings compact, in yellow, pink, turquoise and lavender, so they don't catch when you turn. Gold shimmer, rosy cheeks and pink lipstick are enough makeup. For a performance, sew fitted shorts into the tutu.
28. Stella Vampire Halloween Costume

Stella's Halloween vampire mixes her sun colors with gothic touches. Start with a knee-length orange-and-black dress with a fitted waist, flared skirt and subtle bat-shaped trim. Add a short purple cape with a high collar, black tights and orange ankle boots. A high collar flops unless it's stiffened, so I fuse interfacing inside it or slip a strip of plastic canvas into the fold before going out. Keep the long blonde hair loose and curled with a black star clip near one temple. Small purple-and-orange bat wings replace her fairy ones. A sun pendant, black gloves and a glittering orange handbag go with plum shadow, defined liner, pale pink blush and berry lipstick, and no graphic effects. It says Halloween plainly while staying tasteful for public celebrations.
29. Stella School Costume

The school look comes almost entirely from everyday clothes. A fitted orange or pink top, a short blue pleated skirt and a cropped gray cardigan, with gray knee-high socks and pink platform loafers or comfortable block heels, make the outfit. A high ponytail with a bright orange ribbon keeps the hair simple. Carry a structured school bag with a removable sun charm and a few colorful notebooks. Small earrings, stacked bracelets and the turquoise sun ring are the accessories, with blue shadow, peach blush and glossy pink lipstick. Optional clip-on wings turn it magical without changing the comfortable clothes underneath. It's also the version most likely to pass a school or office costume rule.
30. The Magic Is Back Stella Costume

For her refreshed look, keep the original solar palette and update the shapes. A structured orange mini dress, or a matching top-and-skirt set with yellow, pink and turquoise accents, pairs with fashionable orange platform boots and several pieces of gold sun jewelry. Smooth the hair into a polished ponytail with face-framing strands and a colorful jeweled clip. The updated wings use clean geometric panels in orange, yellow, blue and pink, which are easier to cut accurately than curved ones. Luminous makeup with gold lids, defined lashes, rosy cheeks and glossy coral lips suits her. Carry a small round sun bag or let the bold turquoise ring be the main prop. Modern fabrics in her classic colors keep her easy for longtime fans to spot.
Fairy Wings Built to Survive a Crowded Party
Almost every transformation needs wings, and they cause more trouble than anything else in a Winx costume. The shapes are wide and thin, so they snag in doorways, crumple in car seats and pull on whatever they're attached to. This is how I build them to last an evening.
Frame and film
Bend each wing panel from craft or floral wire, taping the joins. Cover the frame with iridescent cellophane or a sheer organza, glued around the wire on the back, then trim the excess. Cellophane gives the glassy shimmer the cartoon has, while organza is softer and won't crack if it gets bent. Paint the colored edges with fabric or glass paint, or glue on a thin strip of colored film.
Attaching them to you
Join all the panels to one small, flat center plate of craft foam, then run two loops of clear or skin-toned elastic from the plate over the shoulders like a backpack. On strapless or one-shoulder tops, the elastic can cross at the front and hide under cuffs or a necklace. Pinning wings straight onto a stretch top drags the neckline down within an hour.
For indoor events, keep the full span no wider than your shoulders plus a hand's width on each side, and make the wings removable with a snap or buckle so you can sit down. The big Enchantix and Dreamix wings I'd carry separately and put on only for photos.
Which Stella Suits Your Sewing Skills?
Stella's wardrobe adapts to almost any event, from a Halloween party to a cosplay meetup or a school dress-up day. Her orange-and-yellow palette, very long blonde hair, wings, sun jewelry and bright makeup carry the character, so get those right and the outfit underneath can be whatever suits you. A transformation look is the choice for a full sewing project, while her casual, formal, winter or pajama outfits are much easier to wear for a long night. Light craft foam, removable wings, hidden shorts and supportive shoes make even the elaborate versions comfortable. Fit the costume to your budget and your sewing skills, and let her love of fashion give you room to make it your own.
