Shadowheart is a character you can build a dozen ways, because her look rests on a handful of details rather than one exact outfit. The core is dark armour trimmed in silver, pointed ears, smoky eyes, a circlet, a scar across the cheek and that long ponytail broken into sections by metal bands. Later in her story her hair can turn silvery white, which gives you a second version to work from. Below are full armour builds, comfortable outfits for a long day on your feet, closet and thrift versions, formal takes, and options sized and shaped for different bodies. Some need foam work; others need nothing more than a free evening and a wig.

Sectioning Her Ponytail So the Rings Stay Evenly Spaced
Every version below depends on the ponytail, and it's the piece that most often looks wrong by midday. The rings slide down, the sections bunch, and the whole tail droops. A little planning at the wig stage fixes most of that.
- Start with a wig or a clip-in ponytail long enough to reach at least the middle of your back. Short tails don't leave room for enough sections.
- Brush it out fully, then mark where each ring will sit with clear elastics, spaced evenly from the base down. Wrap each elastic tightly; that elastic is what holds the shape, not the ring.
- Make the rings from strips of craft foam or thin plastic tubing painted silver. Real metal looks great but adds weight that pulls on the wig cap all day.
- Slide or wrap each ring over its elastic and secure it with a dab of glue on the ring itself, never on the wig fibre.
- Pin the base of the tail to the wig cap with a few crossed bobby pins so it can't swing loose.
Store the styled tail flat in a long bag or hanging on a hook. Folding it crushes the sections, and you'll be re-styling the night before.
1. Shadowheart Default Armor Cosplay

Her default adventuring kit is the build most people picture, and it's a fair amount of foam. Start with a fitted black tunic under silver-grey armour: sculpted shoulders, a decorated chest panel and matching bracers, over dark leggings and tall black boots. A light silver shield fills out the outline if you can manage carrying it all day. The black wig goes into a high, segmented ponytail with silver rings or painted foam bands between the sections. Pointed ears, charcoal shadow, strong brows and the fine cheek scar handle the face, with the silver circlet sitting just above the blunt bangs. The geometric artifact in her hand is the detail that tells fans exactly who you are, so give it clean, crisp edges.
2. Shadowheart Camp Outfit Cosplay

The camp outfit is my pick for anyone who wants to be comfortable and still be her. A sleeveless black faux-leather top with a structured neckline and silver details is the main piece, so I'd interface the neckline well; faux leather collapses at the edges without support. Fitted black leggings and flat ankle boots handle the walking. The segmented ponytail stays the star, with metallic rings and the forehead circlet. Cool brown shadow, black liner and a soft cheek scar keep makeup wearable. Pointed ears, fingerless gloves and a small belt pouch add texture, and a foam or folded-cardstock artifact finishes it.
3. Dark Justiciar Shadowheart Cosplay

The Dark Justiciar armour is the most imposing version, and also the heaviest to build. Base it on a black long-sleeve bodysuit or fitted tunic with trousers that bend at the knee. Angular charcoal armour covers the chest, shoulders, hips, forearms and knees, with every raised edge dry-brushed in silver so the shapes catch light. Keep the long black cloak in a light fabric, since a heavy cloak hanging from foam shoulders pulls them backwards all day. Her black hair stays in the segmented ponytail with a slightly side-parted front. Black liner, smoky grey shadow and a cool plum lip give the harder expression. Pointed ears, the silver circlet, armoured gloves and flat knee boots, plus a black-and-silver shield or disk, round it out.
4. White Hair Shadowheart Cosplay

The white-haired version brightens everything, so the clothes have to follow the hair. Part a long white wig slightly off-centre and gather it into a smooth segmented ponytail; white synthetic fibre shows every tangle and frizz, so detangle it with a wig brush before styling, not after. A fitted silver-grey tunic sits under light armour with pearl, ivory and pale metallic accents, and grey leggings with silver-trimmed boots finish the lower half. Taupe shadow, precise black liner and a natural rose lip suit the softer palette. The scar and ears stay. Swap the darker accessories for a crescent pendant, pearl hair rings, pale bracers and a lighter artifact prop.
5. Easy Shadowheart Closet Cosplay

No armour at all? This version needs scissors and an evening. Wear a fitted black turtleneck, black leggings, a wide faux-leather belt and flat knee boots, then layer a grey sleeveless vest over the top to suggest armour panels. Cut silver craft foam into simple shoulder caps and a chest emblem and attach them with hook-and-loop strips, so they come off for the wash. Tie a long black wig into a high ponytail and divide it with silver ribbon. Pointed ears and a narrow silver headband with a small black disk at the centre handle the head. Smoky eyes, straight brows and a delicate scar, plus a silver-painted cardboard artifact, and the character reads without any sewing.
6. Budget Thrifted Shadowheart Cosplay

A thrift-store build comes together well if you shop by colour, not by garment. Look for a fitted black sweater, a dark grey vest, stretch pants, sturdy boots and a wide belt with silver hardware. An old costume necklace, chain removed and wired to a headband, makes a surprisingly good circlet. Armour can be cardboard covered in charcoal fabric or metallic adhesive paper, though cardboard creases at the bend points, so keep pieces small. An inexpensive black ponytail extension with silver beads, and two long pieces left at the face, handles the hair. Use your own makeup for liner, grey shadow and the scar. Stick strictly to black, grey and silver and the mismatched pieces look planned.
7. No-Sew Shadowheart Cosplay

The no-sew version lives or dies on how the pieces attach. Start with a black workout top, leggings and comfortable lace-up boots, then add a cropped faux-leather vest. Fix craft-foam shoulder armour to hidden elastic straps; fabric glue alone won't hold foam on a moving shoulder for long. Silver vinyl tape gives clean borders on the vest, belt, bracers and boot cuffs, but press it down firmly and round the corners, since square corners lift first. A black clip-in ponytail divided with metallic hair ties copies her hair. Ears, a silver headband, smoky makeup and a light scar finish the face, with fingerless gloves blending the arm pieces in. A foam artifact and a small belt bag carry your essentials.
8. Plus Size Shadowheart Cosplay

For plus-size bodies, I build Shadowheart's armour in separate panels rather than one rigid breastplate. A black stretch tunic with a defined waist, supportive leggings and wide-calf knee boots form the base. Shoulder pieces, belt, hip guards and bracers are shaped from foam with rounded edges, then painted charcoal and silver, and each panel can be adjusted to your measurements as you go. A single moulded breastplate fights the body every time you sit; panels move with you. Style a black wig into the sectioned ponytail, or attach a matching extension to your own hair. Ears, smoky liner, the circlet and a subtle scar set up the character. Add a soft black cape and the artifact.
9. Modest Shadowheart Cosplay

This modest version covers fully and loses nothing that matters. Wear a black mock-neck top with full sleeves under a knee-length charcoal tunic, with opaque leggings, flat tall boots and a wide belt with silver detail. Light shoulder armour and bracers give structure over the covered base, and a split overskirt keeps your stride free. A black wig with blunt bangs, face-framing sections and a high segmented ponytail wrapped in silver cord handles the hair. Smoky grey shadow, defined liner and a soft scar finish the face, with ears and a black-disk circlet. Carry the artifact in a small trimmed pouch, or a light shield for photos.
10. Comfortable Convention Shadowheart Cosplay

A long day in costume is mostly about what touches your skin. I'd start with a moisture-wicking black top and stretch joggers cut to look like fitted fantasy trousers. Flexible EVA foam for the chest, shoulders and forearms, with clearance at the elbows and waist, stops the rubbing that turns sore by afternoon. Cushioned black boots with removable silver covers beat stiff costume shoes. A pre-sectioned ponytail extension saves styling time and weighs less on the scalp than a full wig. Waterproof liner, grey shadow and a scar drawn in long-wear liner hold up to heat. Add ears, a padded circlet, fingerless gloves and a belt pouch big enough for a phone; a hollow foam artifact can even hide spare bobby pins and plasters.
11. Winter Shadowheart Cosplay

For cold outdoor events, warmth goes under the armour, not over it. Begin with a black thermal shirt, fleece-lined leggings and insulated knee boots. A charcoal quilted tunic passes for padded armour and traps heat, with silver-edged foam shoulders and bracers on top. A long black velvet cloak adds real warmth, though velvet is heavy, so anchor it at both shoulders rather than at the throat. The segmented black wig sits under the circlet with the ears showing. Charcoal shadow, liner, a berry lip and the scar suit the deeper palette. Lined fingerless gloves over thin thermal ones keep fingers working, and a metallic belt, crescent brooch and light artifact finish it.
12. Summer Shadowheart Cosplay

Hot-weather Shadowheart needs fewer layers, not a half-finished costume. Wear a sleeveless black athletic tunic with breathable fitted shorts under a light split overskirt. Small foam shoulder guards, ventilated bracers, a wide belt and flat ankle boots with wicking socks keep it cool. A short black wig with a detachable segmented ponytail is the smart move here, because you can unclip the heavy part during breaks. The circlet, ears, liner and scar keep her recognisable on their own. A compact artifact clips to the belt. Silver vinyl at the neckline and skirt edge gives the look of armour trim with almost no weight.
13. Gothic Dress Shadowheart Cosplay

A long gothic dress turns her into a cleric at court. Choose a fitted velvet bodice with sheer sleeves and a full ankle-length skirt. Velvet has a nap, so cut every panel in the same direction or the colour shifts from piece to piece. A structured silver belt, small charcoal shoulder pieces and ornate cuffs tie the dress back to her armour, with comfortable pointed ankle boots under the hem. Style the black wig into the high segmented ponytail, bangs straight, two sections loose at the face. Smoked liner, cool plum lips and a delicate scar, plus ears and the circlet, handle the head. An embroidered crescent pouch, a metallic collar necklace and a lit artifact stand out sharply against the dark velvet.
14. Silver Moon Shadowheart Cosplay

Silver, pearl and midnight blue give a moonlit version that leans into her brighter path. Start with a pale grey tunic dress over navy leggings, then add flexible silver chest armour and curved shoulder guards. A blue-grey cape, silver bracers and grey knee boots finish the body. A white ponytail wig with silver bands is the focal point, paired with ears and a delicate crescent circlet. Pearly shadow, fine black liner, cool pink blush and a subtle scar keep the face luminous. A moon pendant and an embroidered belt pouch repeat the celestial theme. Carry a softly lit relic or a small silver lantern, and you can skip heavy armour entirely.
15. Black Velvet Shadowheart Cosplay

Black velvet makes her palette look rich instead of armoured. Wear a fitted velvet tunic with a high neck, flared sleeves and a split floor-length overskirt over matte leggings and silver-buckled ankle boots. Velvet crushes and marks where straps press, so I keep harness straps wide and put a strip of lining under each one. A sculpted charcoal corset belt, compact shoulder armour and metallic bracers bring back the practical edge. Keep the segmented black ponytail sleek, with silver loops against the dark fabric. Smoky black shadow, sharp liner, a muted mauve lip and the fine scar suit it, with ears and an ornate circlet. A chain belt, velvet pouch, moon brooch and faceted black artifact finish the waist.
16. Traveling Cleric Shadowheart Cosplay

This is Shadowheart on the road, dressed for weather instead of battle. Build it around a charcoal wrap tunic, fitted black trousers and boots in a weathered brown-black. A hooded cloak, wide utility belt, soft bracers and a single shoulder guard replace full armour. The segmented ponytail, circlet and ears keep the link to the character. Natural taupe makeup, dark liner and a visible but quiet scar suit a travel look. Hang a cloth pouch, a rolled map and a moon pendant from the belt. Dry-brush the silver details lightly with an almost-empty brush, which reads as wear without looking dirty, and carry the artifact in a distressed satchel.
17. Formal Gown Shadowheart Cosplay

A fantasy ballgown is the dramatic alternative to armour. Pick a black fitted gown with silver embroidery, long sleeves and a softly flared skirt, then add a metallic corset belt at the waist and small shoulder caps that hint at armour. Keep the caps light and tack them to the gown's shoulder seams, or they slide toward the neck while you dance. Silver flats or low block heels keep it wearable. A polished segmented ponytail with ornamental loops and a refined circlet handles the hair. Ears, charcoal eyes, mauve lips and the scar keep her face right. Silver drop earrings, a structured black pouch and a small relic carried like a clutch suit fantasy balls and costume parties.
18. Hooded Cloak Shadowheart Cosplay

A deep hood adds mystery and lets the clothes underneath stay simple. Wear a fitted black long-sleeve tunic, charcoal leggings and flat lace-up boots, with a silver-trimmed belt, foam bracers and a small chest panel. The floor-length hooded cloak goes on last. Cut the hood generously, with enough depth to sit back on the head without sliding off, so the circlet, ears and ponytail stay visible. A hood cut too shallow either flops over your eyes or falls back completely. Cool grey shadow, defined brows and a scar drawn with a fine brush handle makeup. Fasten the cloak with a black-disk brooch, and carry the artifact or clip it securely to the belt.
19. Leather Corset Shadowheart Cosplay

A faux-leather corset makes an approachable centrepiece. Layer it over a charcoal blouse with fitted sleeves, add black leggings and tall lace-up boots, then attach silver craft-foam panels to the corset so it reads as armour rather than a modern top. Contact cement holds foam to faux leather far better than hot glue, which peels off the shiny surface. Matching bracers, a wide hip belt and a short split overskirt finish the base. A black wig with straight bangs, face-framing strands and a ponytail divided by silver bands handles the hair. Smoky liner, grey-brown shadow, a nude lip and a precise scar, with ears and a narrow dark-centred circlet. Everything here is light and comes apart for reuse.
20. Chainmail Tunic Shadowheart Cosplay

Chainmail-effect fabric gives you the texture of mail without the weight. Look for silver mesh or a knit printed with overlapping rings, and layer it over a black long-sleeve base. Metallic mesh frays and runs, so finish the hems with a narrow binding or a line of fray stopper before you wear it. Charcoal foam on the shoulders, chest and hips balances the shine, with matte black leggings and sturdy boots below and a silver-trimmed belt and wrist guards. The segmented ponytail, ears, circlet, smoky eyes and scar handle the character. A light shield with a dark circle motif and an artifact on the belt finish it, and the whole outfit packs flat and mends far more easily than real mail.
21. Temple Robe Shadowheart Cosplay

Flowing robes give a ceremonial take that moves well. Choose a charcoal long-sleeved wrap dress with a high side split over black leggings. A wide silver belt, a sculpted collar, metallic cuffs and flat knee boots add structure. A sheer black cape attached at the shoulders suggests formal cleric garments without weight; sheer fabrics slip under the needle, so tissue paper under the seam helps if you're sewing your own. The black wig goes into the segmented ponytail with the circlet just above the bangs. Dark grey eyes, a muted plum lip, the fine scar and visible ears finish the face. A black circular pendant, an embroidered book cover, a belt pouch and the relic keep this from looking like a plain robe.
22. Masquerade Shadowheart Cosplay

A silver-and-black masquerade mask turns her look formal. Wear a fitted black brocade dress with an asymmetrical overskirt, opaque tights and low silver heels, plus a metallic waist belt, narrow shoulder armour and decorative bracers. Choose a half mask that leaves the lower face free and carries a black circle or crescent detail. Any mask narrows your side vision, so practise walking stairs in it before the event. The segmented ponytail rises behind the mask with silver loops and a circlet. Charcoal around the mask edges, a deep rose lip and a small visible scar handle the face. Ears, a velvet pouch, silver jewellery and an artifact clutch finish it.
23. Modern Shadowheart Cosplay

Modern Shadowheart swaps armour for street clothes and keeps the outline. A black moto jacket, charcoal fitted top, coated black jeans and silver-buckled combat boots form the outfit. A wide utility belt and a geometric metallic shoulder harness stand in for armour. The black segmented ponytail is still essential, though silver hair cuffs can replace costume rings. Ears, a thin circlet, winged liner, smoky shadow, a mauve lip and the scar finish the face. A black crossbody bag with a circular silver emblem carries your things and points to her faith. This is the one I'd wear to a casual event where full costume feels like too much.
24. Fantasy Academy Shadowheart Cosplay

An academy version gives her a tidy uniform. Wear a charcoal pleated skirt over opaque tights with a fitted black blouse and a silver-trimmed waistcoat. Flat lace-up boots, a structured belt, compact bracers and a short hooded cape keep it practical. Pleats hold far better if you press them with a damp cloth and a little starch before the event. Style the black wig into her high segmented ponytail with the circlet above the bangs. Ears, smoky liner, a subtle scar and cool mauve lips give her face. Carry a dark notebook with a handmade silver emblem, a leather-look satchel and the artifact under one arm. Small foam shoulder caps keep the cleric armour in the picture.
25. Renaissance Faire Shadowheart Cosplay

Outdoor faires reward natural fabric and layers you can loosen. Begin with a black linen blouse, a charcoal lace-up bodice and a full split overskirt over fitted trousers. Linen breathes and wrinkles; the wrinkles suit an adventurer. A wide leather-look belt, fabric bracers and sturdy flat boots handle uneven ground. A light hooded cape gives shade and fills out the shape. Style black hair into a ringed ponytail, with ears and a silver circlet with a dark centre. Waterproof smoky eyes, a natural lip and a fine scar hold up in the sun. A decorated satchel, silver pendant, relic and small pouches finish the kit, and a little charcoal weathering makes new pieces look travelled.
26. Lightweight Armor Shadowheart Cosplay

Foam and stretch fabric can give you full armour without the weight of a rigid build. Wear a black compression top, stretch trousers and cushioned tall boots. Cut thin EVA foam panels for the chest, shoulders, forearms, hips and knees, and seal them before painting charcoal and silver, since raw foam soaks up paint and cracks when it flexes. Join the pieces with elastic straps so each moves on its own. A black segmented ponytail wig with silver loops, ears and a padded circlet handle the head. Cool grey shadow, strong liner, a muted lip and the scar finish the face. A hollow artifact, a soft cape and a fabric-covered shield complete the outline, and the panels stack flat in a suitcase.
27. White Hair Camp Shadowheart Cosplay

White hair with the camp clothes gives a relaxed version that fans recognise right away. Wear a structured sleeveless black top with subtle silver trim, fitted charcoal pants and soft black ankle boots. A decorative belt, fingerless gloves and small metallic cuffs stand in for armour. Style a long white wig into a segmented ponytail with an off-centre part and silver bands. Ears and a delicate crescent circlet frame the light hair. Taupe shadow, black liner, a rose lip and a quiet scar keep makeup fresh. Black clothing near a white wig shows every shed fibre, so carry a lint roller. A moon pendant, a belt pouch and a pale artifact finish it.
28. Black Hair Moon Cleric Shadowheart Cosplay

This version keeps her original black hair and dresses it in moon-cleric silver. Start with a midnight-blue tunic dress over charcoal leggings, then add pearl-silver armour panels, a pale cape and grey knee boots. Navy and black can look identical in dim light, so choose a blue with a clear colour cast, or the contrast disappears in photos. The black wig goes into a smooth segmented ponytail with silver cuffs. Ears, a crescent circlet, smoky blue-grey shadow and the scar keep her face familiar. Silver bracers, a moon pendant and an embroidered belt with pouches add detail, and a softly lit artifact is the main prop.
29. Cute Shadowheart Cosplay

The cute version rounds every edge and keeps every clue. Wear a black puff-sleeve top, a charcoal skater skirt, opaque tights and silver-buckled ankle boots. Rounded foam shoulder pieces, a wide metallic belt and soft cuffs replace angular armour. Push the segmented ponytail bigger than life, tied with shiny silver bows or smooth bands. Ears, a small circlet, soft smoky liner, rosy cheeks and a delicate scar finish the face, and a short cape adds movement. A miniature artifact purse, crescent hair clips and a dark embroidered pouch carry the theme. It's a good choice for themed gatherings or a family Halloween where full armour feels too stern.
30. Masculine Shadowheart Cosplay

Her visual language moves easily into a masculine or gender-bent costume. Begin with a fitted black tunic, straight charcoal trousers and tall flat boots. Angular silver-edged chest armour, broad shoulder guards, bracers and a structured utility belt set up the frame. Long hair can go straight into the segmented ponytail; shorter hair works with a detachable braided extension anchored under the circlet with a couple of crossed bobby pins. Ears, smoky black liner, strong brows, a muted lip and the scar keep her face. A sleeveless black cloak gives a clean line. Add the artifact, a silver collar, dark gloves and a circular emblem, and size every panel to the wearer rather than to a pattern's default.
EVA Foam Armour at the Kitchen Table
Many of these builds use foam, and you don't need a workshop for it. EVA foam is the denser, springy kind sold in sheets and floor mats; craft foam is the thin, soft kind. EVA holds a curve after heating, craft foam mostly doesn't, so I use EVA for chest and shoulders and craft foam for trim and the circlet.
- Warm EVA with a heat gun or a hair dryer on high, then bend it over a rounded form like a bowl or your own shoulder and hold until it cools.
- Cut with a fresh, sharp blade. A dull knife tears the foam and leaves fuzzy edges that show through paint.
- Join pieces with contact cement, applied thinly to both sides and left to go tacky before pressing. Work with windows open, because the fumes are strong.
- Seal before you paint. Several thin coats of a flexible primer stop the paint cracking when the armour bends.
- Round every outer corner. Sharp foam corners snag hair, catch sleeves and poke other people in a crowd.
Ears, Liner and a Scar That Last a Full Day
Her face is simple makeup, but it has to last. Patch-test any ear adhesive on the inside of your wrist a day ahead, and blend the seam where the ear tip meets your own ear with your usual foundation. Set the liner and shadow with a light layer of powder, and draw the scar in a long-wear brown or taupe pencil rather than cream, which smudges when hair brushes past. Check the scar against a reference picture rather than a selfie, since front cameras mirror the image and it's easy to end up on the wrong side. At the end of the day, take adhesive off slowly with an oil-based remover instead of pulling.
Her Ponytail, Her Scar, and the Rest Is Up to You
A Shadowheart costume doesn't have to be the most complicated build to read correctly. Fans recognise her from a few repeated details: the dark-and-silver palette, pointed ears, smoky eyes, the cheek scar, the circlet and that sectioned ponytail. Get those right and the rest can be light armour, camp clothes, a gown, faire layers or the white-haired version. Plan for comfortable shoes, closures you can adjust and props you'll still want to carry at the end of the day. Pick the version that matches the sewing and crafting you're comfortable with, then make the small details your own.
