Fall in Seoul is one of my favorite seasons to pack for, because the local style rewards the same thing a good travel wardrobe does: a few roomy pieces balanced by cleaner fitted ones, all in colors that mix. Beige, gray, cream and black make the base; burgundy, navy and soft blue bring the season in. Trench coats, cardigans, blazers, pleated skirts, wide trousers and loafers are the building blocks. The real challenge is temperature, since a sightseeing day can start chilly, warm up by lunch and drop again after dark. Each of the twenty outfits below comes with shoes and accessories, plus my notes on layering and walking.

How Seoul's Autumn Temperatures Shape What You Pack
Seoul's fall moves quickly, and the month you travel changes the outfit far more than any trend does. Typical averages look roughly like this, though any given year can run warmer or colder:
- September: still warm in the afternoon, often in the mid to high 70s Fahrenheit, with mild evenings. Cardigans, shirts and light skirts.
- October: the classic trench month. Days around the high 60s, nights down near the low 50s. Layers you can add and remove.
- November: real cold arrives. Highs in the 50s or lower, nights near freezing by the end of the month. Long wool coats, tights and boots.
The gap between morning and afternoon is what catches visitors. I build each day from three layers: a thin fitted base, a middle knit or shirt, and an outer layer that can go in a bag or over an arm. That's why so many outfits here combine a tee or turtleneck with a cardigan and a trench.
Indoors is warm. Subway cars, cafes and shops are often heated, so a thick sweater with nothing lighter underneath means you'll be too hot inside and too cold outside. A fine base layer is the fix.
1. Korean Fall Trench Coat And Wide-Leg Pants Outfit

A beige trench over wide-leg trousers is the outfit I'd wear on the first day of any fall trip to Seoul, because it handles a commute, a palace visit and dinner without changing. A fitted cream mock-neck under the roomy coat keeps the base neat. High-waisted black or charcoal trousers with a soft drape should reach the shoe. Black loafers make it polished; white sneakers make it a walking outfit. If you're petite, a shorter trench and slightly narrower leg keep the coat from swallowing you. A light scarf in gray or burgundy covers a cool afternoon.
2. Korean Fall Cropped Cardigan And Straight Jeans Outfit

A cropped cardigan buttoned over a white tee with high-waisted straight jeans is the sweet, easy version of Seoul style. Oatmeal, dusty blue, soft pink or charcoal knits all work. The short cardigan with a high rise is what makes the legs look long, so the two need to meet at the waist. Cream sneakers, ballet flats or brown loafers with ankle socks showing finish it. If cropped feels too short, choose a cardigan that ends at the waistband with a longer cami under it. Cardigans are also easy to pull off on a warm afternoon and tie around a bag strap.
3. Korean Fall Oversized Blazer And Pleated Mini Skirt Outfit

An oversized blazer with a pleated mini is the preppy campus look you'll see all over the city's university districts. A charcoal, navy or brown blazer gives structure; a cream or pale blue fitted knit brightens it. The skirt needs enough swing to peek out under the long jacket rather than disappear. Sheer or opaque tights depending on the day. Chunky loafers with crew socks feel youthful; knee-high boots feel sleeker. A knee-length pleated skirt keeps the same proportions with more coverage, which I'd choose for a day with lots of stairs.
4. Korean Fall Cable-Knit Sweater And Pleated Midi Skirt Outfit

A chunky cable-knit over a fluid pleated midi is soft and very easy to wear. A cream, camel or light gray sweater with a chocolate, black or olive skirt is the palette I'd pack. A small front tuck shows the waist; left loose, it reads softer. Thick cable knits add bulk under a coat, so if you'll be layering, a finer knit is the better travel choice. Pointed ballet flats in early fall, ankle boots later. A narrow belt over the skirt waistband helps if the sweater feels too big.
5. Korean Fall Sweater Vest And Button-Down Shirt Outfit

Sweater vest over a crisp button-down is a classic Korean fall layer, and it packs flat. Try a cream, brown or burgundy vest over a white or light blue oversized shirt, with a black A-line skirt, tailored shorts or straight trousers. Knee socks and loafers lean preppy; tights and ankle boots make sense on cold days. The collar, cuffs and shirt hem showing are the point, so don't hide them. A shorter vest or a shirt tucked into high-waisted bottoms gives the cleanest shape. Cotton shirts crease in a suitcase, so roll rather than fold.
6. Korean Fall Leather Jacket And Satin Midi Skirt Outfit

A leather jacket over a satin midi is a texture contrast I like for an evening out in the city. A slightly oversized black or chocolate jacket over a fitted ribbed top, with a champagne, burgundy or black bias skirt. Sleek ankle boots and a small shoulder bag make it dinner-ready; retro sneakers and a canvas tote turn the same pieces casual. Keep jewelry simple. Faux leather is lighter to pack. An elastic waist or bias cut gives you room to sit through a long meal, which matters at a barbecue grill table.
7. Korean Fall Long Coat And Turtleneck Outfit

Once the air turns properly cold, usually from late October, a long wool-blend coat takes over. A fitted black, cream or gray turtleneck under it, with tailored wide trousers in a matching neutral, gives the clean lines Seoul does so well. Camel softens; charcoal or black looks sharper. Square-toe ankle boots or loafers depending on the weather, and a structured tote. Belt the coat for shape or wear it open to show the layers. Petite travelers do better in a knee-length coat; taller ones can carry calf length.
8. Korean Fall Varsity Jacket And Cargo Pants Outfit

Varsity jacket and cargo pants is the relaxed streetwear side of Korean fall dressing. Start with a fitted tee, ribbed long-sleeve or thin hoodie, then olive, charcoal or beige cargos with a straight leg. The jacket brings the color: navy, forest green, burgundy or cream sleeves. Retro sneakers, a nylon crossbody and a cap finish it. The trap is too much volume, so keep either the base layer or the cargos close-fitting. A cargo midi skirt swaps in for a softer take. Nylon bags shrug off light rain, which helps on a sightseeing day.
9. Korean Fall Denim Jacket And Knit Dress Outfit

A ribbed knit midi dress with an oversized denim jacket is one of the lightest outfits to pack for mild days. Cream, black, chocolate or heather gray dresses all work; a straight or gently fitted cut keeps it clean. White sneakers for walking, loafers for something smarter, knee boots as it cools. A slim belt over the dress adds a waist. When it's chillier, a longline cardigan slips between dress and jacket. Ribbed knits can pill where a crossbody strap rubs, so switch shoulders through the day.
10. Korean Fall Striped Sweater And White Jeans Outfit

White jeans stay useful into fall when everything around them is darker. A relaxed striped sweater in navy and cream or brown and beige, straight or slightly wide jeans, brown loafers or suede ankle boots. Wider legs leave room for thermal tights underneath on cold days. A chocolate bag and a light trench on top. Bright white can look summery; ecru or ivory sits better with autumn colors and hides dust from a day outdoors. Street food is a real hazard in white denim, so I'd pack a stain pen.
11. Korean Fall Quilted Jacket And Midi Skirt Outfit

A lightweight quilted jacket is practical for breezy days and weighs almost nothing in a bag. A collarless one in olive, cream or navy over a fitted long-sleeve tee, with a denim, cotton or soft A-line midi. Loafers and socks for a neat look, sneakers when you'll walk all day. A slightly cropped jacket shows the waist; a longer one covers more. Either way, the skirt should fall well below the jacket hem so both layers read clearly. Quilting adds warmth without the bulk of a wool coat.
12. Korean Fall Hoodie And Trench Coat Outfit

A hoodie under a trench is my go-to travel-day layer: soft enough for a long flight, polished enough when you land. A thin gray, navy or cream hoodie under a camel or khaki trench, with black jeans or relaxed trousers. White sneakers keep it casual; retro runners lean streetwear. A small backpack or crossbody keeps your hands free on the subway. Pull the hood out over the collar so it doesn't bunch at the neck. Thick fleece hoodies make the shoulders bulky under a trench, so pick a thinner one.
13. Korean Fall Tweed Jacket And Relaxed Jeans Outfit

A short tweed jacket looks current, not stuffy, over relaxed jeans and a plain tee. Cream, black, gray or a subtle check are all easy. High-waisted straight or slightly loose jeans give a nice contrast with the textured jacket. Ballet flats, loafers or low sneakers, a structured mini bag and small pearl or gold earrings. Leave it open for a laid-back feel or button the top for shape. If cropped jackets cut you in the wrong place, choose one that ends at the upper hip with gently tapered jeans.
14. Korean Fall Knit Polo And Denim Midi Skirt Outfit

A fitted knit polo tucked into a denim midi has a slightly retro feel that I love. Burgundy, navy, cream or forest green polos, tucked into a high-waisted skirt with a slit or A-line cut so you can walk. Loafers with crew socks, ankle boots or slim sneakers. A brown shoulder bag keeps the colors autumnal, and a light trench goes on when it's windy. Roll the sleeves in a warm afternoon. Dark-wash denim looks more polished than distressed. A stretch or partly elastic waist gives more room through the hips.
15. Korean Fall Bomber Jacket And Mini Skirt Outfit

A bomber over a simple mini skirt has a sporty edge. Pick a black, olive or navy bomber that's relaxed but not huge; the extreme oversized ones swamp a short skirt. A ribbed mock-neck or plain long-sleeve tee under it, and an A-line mini in black, charcoal or plaid. Knee boots make it sleek; sneakers and crew socks make it street style. Opaque tights for warmth. A nylon shoulder bag suits the jacket. Swap in a straight midi for more coverage. Keep the colors few so the jacket's shape is the focus.
16. Korean Fall Shirt Dress And Long Cardigan Outfit

A long cardigan over a shirt dress is soft and modest, and it adjusts easily as the day warms and cools. A cotton or knit shirt dress in cream, pale blue or stripes, with a calf-length cardigan in beige, gray or chocolate worn open. Knee boots, ankle boots or loafers with tights. A structured crossbody stops all those soft layers looking shapeless. Use the dress belt for a waist or skip it. The cardigan should end above or below the dress hem, never exactly at it, so the two layers read clearly.
17. Korean Fall Monochrome Gray Knit Outfit

Head-to-toe gray is calm and polished, and it's an easy capsule to pack because everything matches. A charcoal cardigan or crewneck over lighter gray wide trousers, with a white or pale gray tee showing at the neck. Silver flats, black loafers or white sneakers. A slate bag and silver jewelry. Mix smooth tailoring with ribbed or fuzzy knits so it isn't flat. Cool gray drains some complexions, so if it does that to you, keep greige or taupe near your face. A black coat goes over it all when it gets cold.
18. Korean Fall Burgundy Cardigan And Plaid Skirt Outfit

A burgundy cardigan buttoned as a top over a cami brings color to a plaid skirt. Brown, charcoal or navy plaid, mini, knee or midi length. Black loafers and cream socks feel youthful; knee boots and tights add warmth. A dark brown bag and small gold earrings. Keep everything else quiet so the burgundy leads. If plaid feels busy, a solid charcoal pleated skirt is the calmer swap. Later in the season, the same cardigan goes over a collared shirt, which is why I'd count it as two outfits in a suitcase.
19. Korean Fall Knit Vest And Barrel Jeans Outfit

Barrel jeans make the shirt-and-vest combination look current. A crisp white or pale blue button-down under a cropped gray, navy or brown vest, with high-waisted barrel jeans that stop cleanly at the ankle. Sleek loafers or low sneakers balance the curved leg; chunky shoes overload it. A structured tote and slim sunglasses give it a city finish. Leave the collar, cuffs and a bit of shirt hem visible. If barrels feel like too much, relaxed tapered jeans keep the roomy feel with a more familiar line.
20. Korean Fall Puffer Vest And Maxi Skirt Outfit

A puffer vest over a maxi skirt gives warmth to your core without a full winter coat, and your arms stay free for photos. A cream, black or olive vest over a turtleneck, sweatshirt or striped top, with a black jersey maxi, a straight denim skirt or a nylon skirt. Retro sneakers or ankle boots and a roomy tote. A cap for sun, a beanie for cold. The vest should end around the hip so it doesn't fight the skirt. Petite travelers can try a slightly cropped vest with an ankle-length skirt to keep both in proportion.
Shoes for Gravel Courtyards, Hillside Lanes and Floor Seating
Sightseeing days in Seoul mean a lot of ground. Palace grounds have wide gravel and packed-dirt courtyards, older neighborhoods climb steep lanes and stairs, and the subway involves long corridors. Thin-soled flats feel every stone by mid-afternoon.
- Loafers and ballet flats: add a cushioned insole, and save them for days with less walking.
- Sneakers: the most practical choice. Clean, low-profile pairs fit the polished outfits here.
- Ankle boots: low block heels only. Thin heels sink into gravel and catch on uneven paving.
Socks Get Seen More Than You'd Think
Some traditional restaurants and guesthouses seat you on the floor and ask you to take your shoes off at the door. Shoes that slip off without unlacing make this easy, and your socks will be on show, so pack plain ones without holes. Skirts also matter here: a fluid midi or wide trousers are much easier to sit cross-legged in than a short, fitted mini.
Pack a Trench, Two Knits and Shoes You Can Slip Off
You don't need a new wardrobe to dress like this in Seoul. A trench, a cardigan, a relaxed blazer, good jeans and one or two skirts cover most of the twenty outfits above, with loafers, sneakers, flats and boots rotated by the weather. Adjust hem lengths and fits to suit your body and how much coverage you want. Polished preppy or casual streetwear, the same rule applies: one roomy piece, one fitted piece, and colors that all talk to each other. Add texture, a bag that keeps your hands free, and you're set for long days out.
