Paisley is a print with a lot of motion in it. Those curved teardrops pull the eye around, which is why one paisley top can carry an entire outfit while everything else stays plain. That's the approach I use with plus size clients: the print does the talking, and the bottoms, shoes and layers keep the shape clean and comfortable. Below you'll find denim pairings, office outfits, skirts, wide pants, shorts and layered looks, twenty ways to wear one printed top. I've added notes on print scale, fabric and fit along the way, because those details decide whether paisley reads polished or busy.

Print Scale and Where the Paisley Lands on You
Paisley comes in every size, from tiny ditsy motifs to teardrops bigger than your hand, and the scale changes how a top looks on a fuller body. A very small print reads almost as a texture from a few feet away, which is easy to wear but can look busy up close. An oversized motif can land awkwardly, with one big swirl sitting right on the bust or stomach.
On most plus size women I like a medium scale, where each teardrop is roughly the size of a palm. It reads as paisley from across a room without one shape dominating. Before buying, look in the mirror at where the largest or brightest motifs fall. If a big one sits on the bust point, try a different size or a different blouse.
Color count
Prints with two to four colors are much easier to pair than ones with eight. Fewer colors give you clear shades to pull into pants and shoes, which is how most of the outfits below are built.
Mixing it with another pattern
It can be done, but keep the second pattern small and quiet, like a thin stripe or a tiny dot, and share at least one color between them. Two bold prints of the same size compete, and the outfit stops reading as a choice.
1. Plus Size Paisley Top With Straight Leg Jeans

Straight leg jeans are the safest place to start with any print, because they don't add volume of their own. Pick a soft blouse, tunic or peasant-style paisley top and pair it with a medium wash. Peasant tops have a lot of gathered fabric at the neckline, so a front tuck is worth trying to give the waist a little shape. Watch for the elastic neckline sliding off one shoulder; if it does it in the fitting room, it'll do it all day. White sneakers or low block-heel sandals, a crossbody and hoops.
2. Plus Size Paisley Top With Black Pants

Black pants calm a paisley print faster than any other color, especially when there's black, navy or burgundy somewhere in the pattern to connect them. Slim straight pants, ponte or tailored ankle pants all work. I'd match the formality of the trouser to the blouse fabric: a crisp cotton paisley looks right with ponte, while a silky one deserves a proper tailored pant. Pointed flats, loafers or block-heel mules and a structured tote finish it for work or dinner. If the blouse is short, check that it covers the waistband when you raise your arms.
3. Plus Size Paisley Top With Wide Leg Jeans

With wide leg jeans, it's all about proportion. Full denim from hip to hem needs a top that either skims the body or tucks at the front, otherwise you get a loose print over a loose jean and nothing in the middle. High-rise is non-negotiable here; a mid-rise wide leg cuts the body in half visually. Platform sandals or heeled clogs under the hem keep the leg long, and flat sneakers mean you'll need to hem the jeans shorter. A shoulder bag and a layered necklace, and it's ready for markets, travel and casual Fridays.
4. Plus Size Paisley Top With White Jeans

White jeans make a colorful paisley look lighter, and blue, coral and green prints in particular look fresh against them for spring and summer. The honest catch is that white denim shows every lump of a pocket lining and can be see-through in thin cotton. I always suggest a heavier weight and a nude-to-you underwear check in daylight. Straight, bootcut or wide leg, whatever sits best on your hip. Tan wedges or metallic flats, a woven belt if you want shape, and a straw tote. Brunch, a vacation walk or a summer office day.
5. Plus Size Paisley Top With Denim Shorts

Paisley over denim shorts makes a hot-weather outfit look like you planned it. I point plus size clients to shorts with a longer inseam, five to seven inches, which stops the hem riding up between the thighs and reads more balanced under a flowy top. If the blouse is long, half-tuck it; if it has a curved shirttail hem, leave it out. Flat sandals, espadrilles or white sneakers keep you walking comfortably, and a canvas tote and a few bangles finish it for beach towns and errands.
6. Plus Size Paisley Top With Linen Pants

Linen pants quiet a paisley print and add texture without adding a second pattern. White, oatmeal, olive or navy are easy. Pull-on wide legs are the most comfortable, but check that the waistband elastic doesn't gather into thick ridges under a tucked blouse. If it does, wear the top out. Bold print, neutral pant; muted print, and you can bring in a colored sandal or bag. Expect the linen to crease after you sit. Flat leather sandals and raffia accents make it a travel outfit.
7. Plus Size Paisley Top With Maxi Skirt

A plus size paisley top with a maxi skirt is the boho combination, and it can look grown-up rather than costume-like if the skirt is solid. Pull the skirt color from the print, so navy, rust or olive, and the two pieces will feel connected. Two prints on a maxi length is where it tips into fancy dress. A fitted or lightly draped top lets the skirt carry the volume. Wedges or flat slides in summer, ankle boots in fall, a long pendant and a slouchy shoulder bag.
8. Plus Size Paisley Top With Pencil Skirt

For an office, a pencil skirt is the most reliable partner for a printed blouse, since the narrow skirt balances whatever the top is doing at the sleeve or neck. Flutter sleeves and tie necks especially. Choose black, navy, camel or burgundy and tuck the blouse fully. If the blouse is slippery, a smooth front tuck with a slim belt stops it creeping out every time you stand. Ponte skirts with a back vent move better than stiff woven ones. Low pumps or slingbacks and small earrings keep the focus on the print.
9. Plus Size Paisley Top With Pleated Skirt

Pleats add movement below the waist, and a paisley blouse adds it above. That's a lot of motion, so I keep the skirt solid and pull one shade from the print, like cream, chocolate or forest green. Tuck the blouse neatly so the pleats fall from a clean waistband; an untucked blouse over pleats blurs the waist completely. Want arm coverage? A cropped cardigan that stops near the waist keeps the shape. Ballet flats or ankle-strap flats and a small top-handle bag suit showers, daytime celebrations and office days.
10. Plus Size Paisley Top With Black Leggings

A paisley tunic over black leggings is a comfort outfit, but it still needs the right length to look intentional. The tunic should cover the seat and stop a few inches below it, never mid-calf, which cuts the leg off. I look for a tunic with enough drape to fall away from the stomach; stiff cotton tunics tent out. Thicker leggings, not thin ones that show skin when you bend. Tall boots in cold weather, slip-on sneakers otherwise. A long cardigan or denim jacket for warmth and a crossbody bag.
11. Plus Size Paisley Top With Blazer And Jeans

Smart casual becomes easy with a blazer over the paisley and jeans underneath. The blazer frames the print, so it can be bold underneath. Black, navy, camel or cream blazers go with almost any paisley colorway. A V-neck or button-front blouse shows more print than a high neck covered by lapels. Dark-wash straight leg jeans keep it polished. Loafers or ankle boots, and a structured bag. This one is right for casual offices, lunch meetings, classroom settings and weekends when you want to look put together without trying.
12. Plus Size Paisley Top With Cardigan And Trousers

Under a longline cardigan, a small-scale paisley works far better than a big one, because only a strip of the print shows down the middle and a large motif gets chopped into fragments. Pull-on trousers in black, charcoal, camel or navy, and a cardigan in a coordinating neutral. I like the cardigan to end around mid-thigh or lower so it makes a long vertical frame. Loafers, ballet flats or ankle boots, a tote and a fine necklace. Good for office days, appointments and in-between weather.
13. Plus Size Paisley Top With Denim Jacket And Skirt

Throw a denim jacket over a paisley blouse and a solid midi skirt and the outfit drops right into casual. The jacket's length matters: right at the waist or the upper hip gives shape; boyfriend-length jackets swallow the blouse and the skirt waistband. An A-line or knit midi skirt in a color repeated in the print keeps it all connected. Medium wash denim sits well with most paisley colorways. Sneakers for a weekend day, sandals when it's warm, a shoulder bag and sunglasses.
14. Plus Size Paisley Top With Faux Leather Pants

Faux leather pants give a soft print some edge. The sheen of the pant makes paisley look richer, so I'd lean into deeper colorways here, such as burgundy, teal or chocolate. Black straight-leg faux leather or coated leggings are the easiest. One fit note: faux leather has little give, so size for the thigh and seat, not the waist, and expect it to feel warm by evening. Pointed ankle boots or heeled mules, with a tailored jacket for dinner or a denim jacket for a concert or a night out with friends.
15. Plus Size Paisley Top With Utility Pants

Utility pants are plain and practical, which makes them a good ground for a busy print. Olive, khaki, black or tan. Pick a soft blouse or a button-front paisley and tuck it slightly. Watch the pockets: big cargo pockets at the thigh add width there, so I'd choose utility pants with flat or slanted pockets on curvy hips. Keep accessories minimal so the outfit doesn't get cluttered. Platform sneakers or lug-sole loafers, a belt bag or canvas tote, and it's ready for museums, travel days and spring or fall weekends.
16. Plus Size Paisley Top With Palazzo Pants

Palazzo pants have the most fabric of any pant on this list, so control comes from the top. A shorter paisley blouse, a tucked one or a wrap top that defines the waist keeps the outfit from turning into yards of drape. Solid palazzos in a neutral, or in one color from the print. Light fabrics like crepe or rayon move well; heavy ones flap. Wedges or platforms lift the hem off the floor, and a small clutch or shoulder bag balances the width below. For summer parties, resort evenings and vacation dinners.
17. Plus Size Paisley Top With Bootcut Jeans

Bootcut jeans balance a full hip with that slight flare at the hem, and paisley gives this pairing a light retro feel. The trick to keeping it from looking like a costume is a modern wash and simple shoes. Dark wash is more polished, medium more casual. Front-tuck the blouse and add a belt for structure. The flare needs a heel under it: heeled ankle boots or wedges, with the hem nearly brushing the floor. A suede-look jacket or tailored cardigan adds a layer for cool days.
18. Plus Size Paisley Top With Tailored Shorts

Tailored shorts look much smarter than cutoffs and still keep you cool. Look for Bermuda length or mid-thigh in linen blend, twill or a soft suiting fabric; the pressed crease down the front makes the leg look longer. Tan, black, cream or navy let the paisley take over. Tuck the blouse or tie it at the waist if the fabric is soft enough to knot. Inner-thigh rub is the honest downside with any shorts, so I'd wear anti-chafe shorts or balm underneath. Espadrilles or low block heels and a woven bag.
19. Plus Size Paisley Top With Matching Color Pants

Repeating one color from the paisley in your pants is the most useful trick for printed tops. It looks styled with no other effort. A blue print with navy pants, a rust blouse with terracotta trousers, a green tunic with olive. The repeated color creates a longer line and makes the print feel less busy. I hold the blouse against the pants in daylight before committing, because colors that match under store lighting can clash outdoors. Straight, wide or tapered pants, neutral shoes, and a matching bag only if you want it.
20. Plus Size Paisley Top With Monochrome Layers

Paisley inside a one-color outfit is my favorite trick for clients who want print but worry about it widening them. Pants, shoes and a jacket in the same family, black, cream, navy or olive, frame the blouse with a long vertical line on each side, and the print shows only down the center. Black trousers, black loafers and a black blazer over a colorful paisley. Or cream jeans, a cream cardigan and tan sandals with a softer print. It suits workdays, travel and dinners alike.
Rayon Paisley Blouses Shrink, So Wash Them Carefully
A lot of paisley tops, especially the flowy peasant and boho styles, are made from rayon or viscose. It drapes well and feels cool, but it shrinks and weakens when wet and hot. A rayon blouse that came out of the dryer a size smaller is one of the most common complaints I hear.
- Wash cold on a gentle cycle, inside a mesh bag, or hand wash.
- Never tumble dry. Roll it in a towel to press out water, then hang or lay it flat.
- Press it while slightly damp on a low setting, from the inside, so the print doesn't shine.
- If it shrinks a little, gently stretching it back while damp often recovers some length.
Cotton and polyester paisley tops are tougher and can go through a normal wash. Check the label before the first wash, because the fabric often can't be told apart by touch alone.
Let the Print Talk and Keep Everything Else Quiet
One paisley top goes much further than people expect. With the right bottoms and layers it covers casual weekends, workdays, vacations, and polished everyday outfits. Every version above balances the print with solid pieces and a clear waist. Denim keeps it easy, trousers make it office-ready, skirts soften it, and a blazer or one-color frame gives it structure. If you're buying just one, choose a mid-scale print in a drapey fabric with two or three colors you already wear. Everything else in your closet can then play backup.
