Boho is back, and the version people actually wear now is calmer than the festival look of years past. Fewer clashing prints, no flower crowns, and much more of the good stuff: loose cotton, crochet, embroidery, suede and earthy colors, mixed with clean jeans and plain trousers. When I build boho outfits for clients, the rule I keep coming back to is that one piece gets to be free-spirited and the rest should be calm. These 35 outfits follow that idea, for coffee runs, creative offices and weekends away, with a note on each about what to check or how it tends to go wrong.

Loose on Top Means Fitted Below
Almost every boho outfit that looks sloppy has the same problem: everything is loose. Flowing blouse, flowing skirt, big cardigan, and the body disappears. The fix I use with clients is to let one half of the outfit be full and keep the other half close to the body.
- Full peasant or poet blouse: slim jeans or straight trousers, tucked in at the front.
- Maxi or palazzo bottom: a fitted tank, bodysuit or tucked shirt.
- Poncho or big shawl: skinny or slim jeans and a close boot.
- Tiered dress: a belt at the natural waist, or a fitted jacket over it.
Petite women feel this most. A lot of loose fabric on a small frame looks like it's wearing you. Keep one piece fitted and choose smaller prints. Tall women can carry more volume, but the same rule still makes the outfit look intended.
1. Boho Chic Peasant Blouse With Jeans

A white cotton peasant blouse with embroidery at the neck is the easiest way into this style. Tuck it into slim dark jeans that end at the ankle, so the fitted leg holds the full top in check. Peasant blouses usually have an elastic neckline; if it's too loose it slides off one shoulder all day, so check that it sits where you want it. Brown flat sandals and one pendant are enough. For a cool evening, put a light cardigan over your shoulders. It's an errands-and-lunch outfit.
2. Boho Chic Embroidered Midi Dress

Rust is one of the warmest colors in boho, and a midi dress with floral embroidery on the bodice is a good way to wear it. The hem just below the calf works for a baby shower or a gallery. Cognac ankle boots stop it from looking too sweet. A slim braided belt marks the waist without bunching the skirt. With embroidery this detailed, I keep jewelry to a single hammered ring or small hoops. Rust flatters most skin tones and runs from late summer into fall. Add a cropped denim jacket on cooler days.
3. Boho Chic Linen Jumpsuit Outfit

A sage linen jumpsuit is one piece and done. Wide legs move well, and a natural jute braided belt gives it a waist. Jute is rough, so wear it over the fabric, not bare skin, and expect it to fray a little over time. Linen jumpsuits crease across the lap after sitting, which comes with the fabric. Check the torso length too, as a short body pulls up uncomfortably. Woven tan slides, a canvas tote and a strand of wood beads. It's what I'd wear on a travel day.
4. Boho Chic Suede Fringe Vest Outfit

A caramel suede vest with fringe at the hem is a strong 1970s piece, so everything under it should be plain: a white tee and straight medium-wash jeans. Short fringe at the hem looks more grown-up than long fringe all over. Real suede marks easily and darkens in rain, so I'd treat it with a protector spray first. Brown heeled clogs add height and fit the decade. A tan crossbody keeps hands free for apple picking or a fall weekend.
5. Boho Chic Maxi Skirt And Tank Top

Paisley maxi skirts are full of pattern, so the top needs to be quiet. A navy skirt with muted rust and cream paisley, high-waisted, with a fitted black rib tank tucked in. High-waisted maxis help petite women most, since the leg seems to start at the waist. Make sure the hem clears your sandals, or you'll step on it on stairs. Cognac flat sandals and thin gold bangles on one wrist. Add a straw hat for sun at an outdoor dinner or a market.
6. Boho Chic Crochet Cardigan Outfit

A crochet cardigan over tailored trousers is how I'd bring boho into an office. Ivory crochet with scalloped edges, open over an ivory camisole, with charcoal wide-leg trousers. The cami should be the same color as the cardigan so the open stitches don't show a busy layer underneath. Crochet snags on bag clasps and rings, so a smooth leather tote is kinder than a woven one with rough edges. Pointed beige mules and a long pendant on the camisole finish it.
7. Boho Chic Wrap Dress Outfit

Terracotta in a plain wrap dress shows that boho doesn't need a print. The wrap lets you set the waist, which is why it suits so many shapes, but check the neckline when you sit. Shallow wraps open at the bust. Fabric needs some weight so the skirt drapes instead of clinging. A hammered gold pendant and nude heeled sandals. A soft wrap over the shoulders for a cool evening. I'd suggest it for a bridal shower or a garden party.
8. Boho Chic Palazzo Pants Outfit

Palazzo pants give the big, moving shape that boho is known for. A muted geometric print in forest and navy, with a chambray shirt tucked in and the sleeves rolled. Wide trousers need the top fitted or tucked, or the whole outfit turns into a tent. A slim belt keeps the fabric from swallowing the waist. Brown platform sandals add the height palazzos need, since flats let the hem drag. Gold hoops, and it goes from a casual office to drinks.
9. Boho Chic Eyelet Lace Blouse Outfit

Eyelet is cotton with small embroidered holes, and it's one of the most comfortable fabrics for summer. A cream eyelet blouse with a scalloped hem, tucked into high-waisted straight medium-wash jeans. Eyelet with a single layer can show your bra through the holes, so wear a nude one. Cognac mules and a gold pendant just under the collarbone. On a cooler day, put a fitted denim jacket over it and leave the blouse untucked so the scallops show below.
10. Boho Chic Slip Dress With Kimono

This is the evening version: a champagne slip dress with a sheer taupe kimono over it, printed with small botanical motifs. The kimono gives movement, the slip gives shape, and you can take the kimono off when the room warms up. Champagne satin shows every line underneath, so wear smooth underwear. Chiffon kimonos catch on bracelets, so I keep jewelry to layered gold necklaces instead. Strappy nude sandals. It's a rehearsal-dinner or cocktail-party outfit.
11. Boho Chic Embroidered Denim Jacket Outfit

An embroidered denim jacket over a plain black maxi dress lets the jacket carry everything. Floral embroidery across the back looks great walking away, and a vintage wash keeps it soft. Black ankle boots add some edge, and a tooled leather crossbody brings in more handwork. Tooled leather is leather with patterns pressed or carved into it, and it ages well. When it's warm, tie the jacket around your waist. It's right for an outdoor concert or a gallery afternoon.
12. Boho Chic Floral Wrap Skirt Outfit

A wrap skirt is forgiving because you can tie it tighter or looser. Dusty blue with a small wildflower print, and a fitted camel bodysuit, which stays tucked without bulk at the waist. The thing to watch is wind: a wrap skirt opens at the overlap, so make sure the overlap is generous before an outdoor event. Cognac gladiator sandals and a tan felt fedora. One turquoise ring or slim hoops. I'd wear it to a vineyard tour.
13. Boho Chic Knit Sweater And Midi Skirt

Heavy knit over a light tiered skirt is one of my favorite fall pairings. An oversized oatmeal cable sweater with an olive cotton midi. The trick is the tuck: front-tuck the sweater, or belt it loosely with braided leather, so the waist doesn't vanish under all that knit. Brown suede ankle boots and a long stone pendant. Push the sleeves up when afternoons get warm. Cable knits shed and pill under a crossbody strap, so carry a handheld bag if you can.
14. Boho Chic Off-Shoulder Top And Shorts

An off-shoulder blouse looks romantic until you spend the day pushing it back up. Choose one with a firm elastic that grips. A burnt orange off-shoulder blouse with ruffle trim in cotton or gauze, with high-waisted medium-wash denim shorts. A strapless bra is a must. Braided slides, turquoise and gold beaded earrings and a straw crossbody. It's right for a beach dinner or a rooftop on vacation.
15. Boho Chic Linen Dress With Jewelry

A slate gray linen shift is the minimal base for anyone who loves boho jewelry more than boho clothes. Layer three mixed-metal pendant necklaces at different lengths: a turquoise charm, a brass disc, a plain gold chain. Leave a few inches between each, or they tangle within an hour. A few thin rings and tan flat sandals. Linen softens with every wash, so this dress only gets more comfortable. It's good for office days and museums.
16. Boho Chic Macramé Top And Jeans

Macramé is knotted cord, and here it appears as panels set into the shoulders of a white cotton blouse. It looks handmade without color or print. Check that the panels don't scratch, as some cotton cord is stiff on bare shoulders. Dark indigo wide-leg jeans that nearly graze the floor, worn with wooden platform sandals, keep the leg long. A cognac satchel and plain gold hoops are all the jewelry it needs. It works for work and an early dinner.
17. Boho Chic Patchwork Denim Outfit

Patchwork jeans stitched from different blue washes are the modern answer to the old embroidered-everything jean. They look textured but not loud. A fitted forest green crop top that ends at the waistband, white canvas sneakers and a long wood bead necklace. If you'd rather not show midriff, a ribbed tank tucked in works the same way. Patchwork denim has more seams than normal jeans, so check that none sits on the inner thigh where it would rub.
18. Boho Chic Bell Sleeve Blouse Outfit

Bell sleeves are dramatic, so the rest of this outfit is strict: a burgundy tie-neck blouse with slim black ankle trousers and pointed heeled booties. A black belt keeps the tuck clean. Bell sleeves drag through food and catch on door handles, so I'd skip this one for anything involving a buffet. Carved wooden drop earrings bring in the boho side. It suits a creative office, dinner with colleagues or a gallery opening.
19. Boho Chic Embroidered Tunic And Shorts

A white cotton tunic with bright embroidery at the V-neck is pure vacation. Loose and breezy, it covers the shoulders in sun. Mid-thigh khaki shorts give some structure. Keep the tunic short enough that the shorts show below it, or it looks like you're wearing only a shirt. Brown leather thong sandals, a woven straw fedora and a canvas tote with leather straps. It's right for a beach town or a summer market morning.
20. Boho Chic Tie-Dye Maxi Dress Outfit

Tie-dye usually means loud festival looks, but in sand and sage it's soft enough for dinner. Choose a column maxi that skims rather than clings; a thin jersey version will show everything. Nude flat sandals, a wood bead strand and a woven leather crossbody. Muted tie-dye looks more like watercolor than psychedelia, which is why it works here. Bring a cream crochet shawl for when the sun goes down.
21. Boho Chic Poet Blouse And Trousers

A poet blouse has full sleeves gathered at the cuff and a soft V-neck, and mustard is a strong color for it. Tuck it into high-waisted chocolate trousers that fall straight to the floor. Mustard flatters warm skin tones most; if it makes you look sallow, a deep rust gives the same effect. Brown heeled loafers and a faceted stone pendant. A wide belt if you want more waist. I'd wear it to a book reading or a nice dinner.
22. Boho Chic Vintage Floral Dress Outfit

A navy midi with a vintage-style floral in dusty pink and cream, with clean white sneakers, is how I'd make a romantic dress work for a whole day on foot. The sneakers change it from occasion to everyday. Tie a cropped denim jacket at the waist or over the shoulders. Choose cotton or viscose, which breathe, over polyester. Thin gold hoops and a watch. It's my pick for exploring a new city.
23. Boho Chic Straw Hat Sundress Outfit

Sometimes the hat is the whole boho part of the outfit. A plain coral linen sundress with a wide-brim natural straw hat with a black band, brown slides and a woven tote. A wide brim shades the face and part of the shoulders; it's no replacement for sunscreen, though. Choose a loose dress so air can move. One gold bangle or a thin chain bracelet. It's for resort days and sunny brunches.
24. Boho Chic Distressed Denim Outfit

Distressed boyfriend jeans keep an embroidered peasant top from looking precious. Light blue, relaxed, with one roll at the hem. The off-white top has a square neck and colorful embroidery. Heavy distressing at the knees widens with each wash, so if you want them to last, pick a pair with small rips rather than big ones. Brown suede ankle boots for cooler days, beaded bracelets and a brown crossbody. A thrift-shopping and park outfit.
25. Boho Chic Sheer Tunic And Jeans

A sheer sage tunic with gold thread over a fitted black camisole gives a layered look with almost no weight. The dark base under the sheer layer keeps the shape. Slim dark jeans with stretch and black heeled sandals. I check sheer tunics under daylight first; some show far more than expected outside. Thin gold earrings and rings. It's for warm evenings when you want your arms covered without heat.
26. Boho Chic Tassel Shawl Outfit

One shawl can change a plain tee and leggings completely. A geometric patterned shawl in terracotta and cream with small tassels, draped over a white tee with black leggings and black ankle boots. On a petite frame, keep the shawl medium-sized; a huge one swallows you. Tassels tangle in a washing machine, so hand-wash or put it in a mesh bag. Brass hoops and a stack of beaded bracelets. It's a good travel-day outfit.
27. Boho Chic Crochet Vest And Dress

A cream crochet vest over a navy column dress gives texture without fuss. The column is plain and straight, and the vest brings the handmade side. Check that the vest ends above the widest part of your hip, since a crochet hem right at the hip adds width. Nude strappy heels, a straw clutch and two fine gold chains. It works for a gallery opening, a shower or a date, and the vest is a little warmth on a breezy night.
28. Boho Chic Linen Shirt And Culottes

An oversized indigo linen shirt tucked loosely into rust culottes with a small batik print is one of the quieter outfits here. Batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique that gives soft, slightly uneven patterns. Culottes end mid-calf, so they look best with a flat or very low shoe. Brown slides and a matching belt, gold dome earrings. Undo one more button after work. Both pieces wrinkle, so steam them before a meeting.
29. Boho Chic Jumpsuit With Wood Jewelry

A slate gray wide-leg jumpsuit is a plain backdrop for carved wooden jewelry. A wood-and-brass statement necklace and a matching bangle stack. Wood is light, so a big necklace is comfortable to wear all night, unlike heavy metal ones. Keep wood away from water and perfume, which can stain it. Brown platform sandals and a canvas clutch. Tencel or a cotton-linen blend keeps the jumpsuit cool for a dinner party or networking evening.
30. Boho Chic Tribal Print Skirt Outfit

This navy and rust geometric midi skirt is busy, so the top stays crisp: a white button-down tucked at the waist. Small gold studs and nothing else. A slight A-line skims the hips better than a straight one with a bold print, which tends to stretch the pattern across the widest point. Brown mules and a plain brown belt. It suits a casual office day or a museum weekend.
31. Boho Chic Maxi Dress With Denim Jacket

Gauze is a loose weave of cotton that's meant to look crinkled, so it never needs ironing. A dusty rose gauze maxi with a fitted dark denim jacket gives the floaty dress some structure. The jacket should be fitted, or two loose layers make you look shapeless. Brown stacked-heel ankle boots, a rose quartz pendant and a brown crossbody. It handles changeable spring and fall weather: jacket on, jacket off.
32. Boho Chic Suede Moccasin Boots Outfit

Caramel suede moccasin boots with fringe are the one boho piece in an otherwise plain outfit: slim black jeans and a charcoal turtleneck. Moccasin boots are soft and flexible, which makes them comfortable. Many have thin leather soles, though, so look for a rubber sole if you'll walk on wet streets. A turquoise pendant and a black leather tote. It's a coffee date or weekend shopping outfit for cooler days.
33. Boho Chic Knit Poncho Outfit

A striped oatmeal and navy knit poncho feels like wearing a blanket, and it needs slim legs underneath to balance it. Indigo skinny jeans and brown knee-high boots do that. Ponchos and crossbody bags don't mix, since the strap drags the poncho to one side, so carry a satchel on the arm instead. A long earthy bead necklace over the neckline. It's a crisp-day outfit for pumpkin patch visits or a weekend brunch.
34. Boho Chic Embellished Jeans Outfit

Embroidered back pockets and a slight flare are a gentle nod to the 1970s. Vintage-wash jeans with stretch, a plain white scoop-neck tee loosely tucked, brown platform sandals. A flare looks best when the hem nearly covers the shoe, so hem these with the platforms on. A woven leather belt and slim gold bangles. A denim jacket in a matching wash works for cooler days. Simple, and right for errands or lunch.
35. Boho Chic Belted Maxi Dress Outfit

A tooled leather belt with turquoise inlay is what gives this forest green tiered maxi its shape. Tiered dresses can look shapeless on their own, so the wide belt does real work here. Wear it at your natural waist; a belt sitting on the first tier seam looks awkward. Silver and turquoise drops, mixed-metal rings and strappy brown sandals. A V or scoop neck gives the earrings room. Bring a cream shawl for an outdoor wedding or dinner party.
Caring for Crochet, Suede and Gauze
Boho pieces are often the most delicate clothes in a closet, and they're the ones people throw into the washer without thinking. A little care makes them last for years.
- Crochet: hand-wash in cool water and dry flat. Hanging a wet crochet piece stretches it out of shape for good.
- Suede and fringe: spray with a suede protector before wearing. Brush dry mud off with a suede brush; don't scrub it wet.
- Gauze and cotton voile: wash cold and line dry. Hot dryers shrink them and break the crinkle.
- Embroidery: turn the garment inside out before washing so the threads don't snag.
- Tooled leather belts: wipe with a dry cloth and condition now and then, and keep turquoise inlay out of water.
Does Boho Work Under an Office Dress Code?
In a creative or casual office, yes, with some editing. Keep one boho piece per outfit and make the rest tailored: a crochet cardigan over trousers, an embroidered blouse under a blazer, a belted maxi with a fitted jacket. Skip fringe, very sheer layers and off-shoulder tops at work. Stick to closed-toe shoes or neat mules. In a formal or conservative office, wear the boho touches in jewelry and a printed scarf instead, and save the rest for weekends.
Add One Handmade Piece This Week
You don't need a new wardrobe for boho. Pick one handmade-looking piece, an embroidered blouse, a crochet cardigan or a tooled belt, and wear it with clothes you already own. That's the pattern in all 35 outfits: something loose, embroidered or knotted, set against something plain and fitted. Watch the proportions, pick natural fabrics when you can, and edit the jewelry so the outfit looks collected rather than cluttered. The best boho outfits look like the pieces met by accident, even when they didn't.
