Ahsoka Tano is a sewist's dream character because her wardrobe changes so much over her story. The constants are orange skin, white facial markings, and blue-and-white striped head-tails; everything below the neck can be a burgundy Padawan outfit, blue Mandalore armour, gray traveller robes or soft white layers. That range means there's a version for a first-time maker, a teenager, a child and someone who wants to sew for weeks. I've written each of the thirty looks below with the base garment, the headpiece, the makeup and the shoes, plus where I'd simplify.

Sewing Soft Head-Tails and Montrals
Every look on this list depends on the headpiece, so it's worth making one good one and reusing it. Moulded latex pieces are available, but a soft fabric version is lighter, cheaper and far easier to wear for a whole evening. This is how I make mine.
- Start with a snug stretch cap in a colour close to the orange skin, or a plain swim cap covered in stretch fabric.
- Cut the three tails (two at the front, one longer at the back) from white stretch fabric, sew them into tubes and turn them right side out.
- Stuff lightly with polyester fibrefill. Overstuffed tails go stiff and stick out instead of hanging.
- Paint or appliqué the blue stripes before attaching. Fabric paint must be heat-set; appliqué is more durable if you'll wash it.
- For the montrals, stitch two tall cones from stiff felt or fabric over thin craft foam, stuff them firmly and sew them to the top of the cap.
Hand-stitch the tails to the cap rather than gluing them. Hot glue lets go on stretch fabric as soon as the cap stretches over your head. If the back tail pulls the cap backwards, a small comb sewn inside the front edge holds it in place.
Length depends on the era: short tails for the young Padawan, past the shoulders for the later looks, and down the back for the adult and live-action versions.
1. Clone Wars Padawan Ahsoka Tano Costume

The young Padawan look is a fitted deep burgundy top, short matching skirt panels, white leggings and tall brown boots, cinched with a wide brown utility belt and small fabric pouches. The short striped head-tails with pointed montrals matter more than anything else here. Stretch knit is the easy fabric for the top, but it rolls at raw edges, so I bind the hem or use a twin-needle finish. Orange water-based makeup, white diamond markings and soft blue around the eyes, plus a burgundy wrist cuff and gray arm bands, finish it. For a family-friendly cut, a full-coverage athletic top and opaque leggings do the job.
2. Early Clone Wars Ahsoka Tano Costume With Leggings

This early Clone Wars variation is built for moving. A dark red sleeveless tunic, burgundy skirt panels, thick white leggings and flat brown knee boots make the base, and a fitted tank or dance top keeps it simple. I cut the skirt panels from faux suede, which doesn't fray, and hang them from the belt so they swing when you walk. The short headpiece should sit on a light cap so it doesn't slide. Orange makeup with symmetrical forehead, cheek and chin markings, brown wrist guards and fingerless gloves complete it, and a tan hooded cape covers you on a cold night.
3. Cold Weather Ahsoka Tano Costume

A snowy-mission take adds real warmth. A fitted burgundy thermal top, fleece-lined white leggings and a brown utility skirt over them make the base, topped by a pale gray winter cloak with a hood big enough to clear the headpiece. Orange makeup rubs onto a pale cloak very quickly, so I'd set it heavily with translucent powder and line the inside of the hood with a darker fabric strip. Insulated brown boots, long gloves, faux-leather wrist guards, a silver comlink and quilted pouches round it out for an outdoor night.
4. Space Mission Ahsoka Tano Costume

Ahsoka's colours carry easily onto a flight suit. Pick a burgundy jumpsuit with a front zipper, add white side panels, and layer brown details: a wide faux-leather belt, wrist controls, knee patches and structured boot covers. Keep the headpiece short enough to clear the suit collar, or it gets pushed forward every time you look down. Orange makeup, crisp white markings and a little blue-gray shadow, flat brown boots and a mission kit of comlink, ID cards and a small lit map tablet finish this more covered version.
5. Season 3 Ahsoka Tano Costume

Her later Padawan outfit is more detailed. A burgundy high-neck tunic, fitted dark leggings, long matching panels and tall brown boots are the base, with a textured belt, slim shoulder straps, fingerless gloves and carved-looking foam wrist guards. The head-tails are longer in this era, so choose a light headpiece that reaches past the shoulders without dragging backwards. I map the white facial shapes with a white eyeliner pencil before filling them. Blue contact lenses are optional and only safe when fitted by an eye-care professional. Topstitching along the tunic and boot cuffs adds texture.
6. Hooded Padawan Ahsoka Tano Costume

A long brown hooded cloak turns the Padawan clothes into a travel costume. Underneath go the burgundy tunic, dark leggings, brown knee boots and a utility belt with soft pouches. The hood needs to be cut generously; a standard cloak hood will crush the montrals, so I add depth at the back seam and test it with the headpiece on. Matte wool-blend or cotton drapes far better than shiny satin. It's forgiving for beginners, too, since the cloak hides simplified seams and a homemade belt.
7. Undercover Ahsoka Tano Costume

The undercover look reads as civilian clothing, not warrior robes. A teal wrap tunic, loose brown pants, a gold-trimmed sash and soft ankle boots make the base. The headpiece sits under a light tan hood with the front montrals and markings showing. Orange makeup with white cheek shapes and quiet brown shadow keeps the disguise feel. I'd sew this in linen or cotton: it breathes over a long day, and the wrinkles suit a character trying to blend in. Stacked gold cuffs, a small crossbody pouch and a silver communicator are all the accessories it needs.
8. Zygerrian Disguise Ahsoka Tano Costume

The turquoise disguise is one of her most colourful looks. A modest teal halter-style tunic over a fitted undershirt, loose turquoise pants and gold flat sandals or ankle boots make the base, with a broad metallic gold belt, arm cuffs and decorative panels. A gold headband can sit around the base of the head-tails if you anchor it to the cap underneath. Gold vinyl and lamé crack along folds, so I back the belt with interfacing before cutting the geometric shapes. Orange makeup, bright markings and a small jewelled pouch finish it, and teal against orange gives strong contrast.
9. Mortis Dark Ahsoka Tano Costume

The Mortis-inspired version darkens her burgundy without going gory. A charcoal-red tunic, black leggings, dark brown boots and a weathered belt make the base. Keep the usual headpiece but add soft gray shading between the stripes with a dry brush. The orange makeup stays clean; I edge the white markings with a little charcoal shadow for an otherworldly feel and use a smoky blue eye. Dark wrist cuffs, layered shoulder fabric and a glowing blue crystal pendant finish it. If you want the pieces back to normal afterwards, use washable fabric shading instead of acrylic.
10. Youngling Escort Ahsoka Tano Costume

This guardian look pairs the later Padawan outfit with soft travel layers. A burgundy high-neck tunic, charcoal leggings, brown boots and a structured belt go under a sand-coloured poncho with side openings. The poncho is the easiest garment in this list to sew: a large rectangle with a head opening and a few tacks at the sides. A medium-length headpiece, orange makeup and even white markings keep her clear. It suits a parent or group leader at a themed event, and I'd keep every accessory soft and rounded if there are children nearby.
11. Mechanic Ahsoka Tano Costume

The mechanic Ahsoka is almost entirely everyday clothing. A blue-gray utility jumpsuit with rolled sleeves, a broad brown belt, an orange-brown cropped work vest, fingerless gloves and rugged lace-up boots set the base. A dark fabric band wrapped partly over the headpiece suggests she's working in disguise. Keep eye makeup minimal. Foam tools and a silver scanner tucked in the belt are lighter than real ones, and light gray weathering on the knees with a dry brush and fabric paint gives a lived-in finish. The jumpsuit pockets are a real bonus at a long event.
12. Martez Sisters Mission Ahsoka Tano Costume

Her civilian period after the Order is all workwear. A sleeveless blue-gray jumpsuit, crossed brown straps, a fitted belt and sturdy ankle boots are the base, sewn in stretch cotton or lightweight canvas so it breathes. I'd patch the knees with a slightly darker scrap and add visible topstitching; those small repairs are what make it look worn in rather than new. Medium-length head-tails, orange makeup and clean markings carry the character. Brown fingerless gloves, a shoulder bag, a foam cargo scanner and a reddish-brown scarf at the neck finish it. With no armour, it's a good beginner build.
13. Siege Of Mandalore Ahsoka Tano Costume

Her blue Siege of Mandalore outfit is bold and needs more crafting. Start with a fitted navy jumpsuit or long-sleeve top and pants. Then layer blue-gray chest armour, hip panels, forearm guards and knee pieces cut from craft foam. Foam holds a curve better if you warm it gently with a heat gun and shape it over your knee or a bottle, then seal it before painting. A brown belt and tall charcoal boots balance the cool palette. Use the longer striped headpiece, light silver dry brushing on armour edges, brown gloves and silver belt cylinders, and you have a full-coverage build that holds up in a group.
14. Mandalore Cloak Ahsoka Tano Costume

A deep navy hooded cloak over the Mandalore outfit adds drama and protects the armour in transit. Underneath is the navy base, foam armour, belt, gloves and charcoal boots. Cut the hood so it rests behind the long head-tails; I drape it on the wearer before cutting rather than trusting a pattern. Medium-weight cotton or brushed twill hangs well without the weight of upholstery fabric. A matte finish on the orange makeup contrasts with the dark fabric, and a small blue emblem at the cloak fastening ties it together. Take the cloak off for indoor photos.
15. Order 66 Escape Ahsoka Tano Costume

The escape version layers a soft gray poncho over the navy Mandalore clothing. A fitted jumpsuit, flexible armour panels, brown gloves, a belt and flat charcoal boots sit underneath. The headpiece goes over a comfortable fabric cap, and the orange makeup needs a smudge-resistant setting spray because the poncho will brush your jaw all night. Light gray shading at the poncho edges and knees suggests a hard journey. I cut the poncho asymmetrically, shorter on one side, so the armour still shows in photos.
16. Tales Of The Jedi Farm Ahsoka Tano Costume

The farm look is a simple alternative to armour. A dusty blue tunic, loose gray-brown pants, a wrapped sash and practical boots, with a light tan vest or apron with deep pockets. A plain scarf covers part of the headpiece while the striped ends hang free. Soften the makeup a little to suit the clothes. Natural cotton, linen and canvas give it a handmade feel, and I'd prewash them so they shrink before you cut, not after. A woven produce bag or small basket is a safe prop, and the flat boots and loose layers make it one of the easiest outfits to wear for a long day.
17. Tales Of The Jedi Funeral Cloak Ahsoka Tano Costume

This quiet version is built around a long gray-brown hooded cloak over simple travel clothes. A muted blue tunic, straight charcoal pants, a brown wrap belt and weatherproof boots go underneath. The hood should be deep enough to frame the montrals without covering the white markings. Even orange makeup and soft gray around the eyes suit the mood. Matte cloak fabric drapes best and won't flash in photos, and I'd keep accessories to fingerless gloves, a discreet pouch and a small foam or clay token so the hood and headpiece stay the focus.
18. Fulcrum Ahsoka Tano Costume

Fulcrum is her secret-agent look: mature gray clothing under a long brown cloak. A charcoal tunic, loose gray pants, forearm wraps and dark brown boots go with geometric gray chest and hip panels. Her adult head-tails run farther down the back, with narrower blue stripes and taller montrals, so this headpiece needs a sturdier base than the Padawan ones. Sharper white forehead markings and calm blue-gray eyes suit it. Wear the hood low over the upper headpiece, face visible, and carry a coded ID card, a compact communicator and a weathered messenger bag.
19. Star Wars Rebels Ahsoka Tano Costume

The Rebels-era outfit is the most tailored. A structured gray tunic dress, charcoal leggings, detached sleeves and layered brown-gray armour form the base, with chest, waist and skirt panels cut from thin craft foam covered in matte fabric. Covering foam in fabric is fiddly; I glue it with contact cement and wrap the edges to the back so nothing peels. A broad belt, gloves and tall low-heeled boots go with the long headpiece and more angular white markings. Silver belt cylinders, a slim communicator and a small owl on the shoulder finish the adult silhouette.
20. Malachor Ahsoka Tano Costume

Malachor adds a weathered gray cloak and worn armour to the mature outfit. A fitted charcoal tunic, dark leggings, segmented gray skirt panels, forearm guards and tall brown-black boots are the base. Silver dry brushing on the armour edges and pale dust at the cloak hem give wear without mess. The long headpiece and angular markings carry the character. A brown belt, fingerless gloves and a small green owl stitched or pinned firmly on one shoulder finish it, with a glowing geometric map tile in hand. The neutral layers stand out next to brighter characters in a group.
21. Ahsoka The White Costume

A flowing white cloak turns her adult look ceremonial. A white or pale silver long-sleeve tunic dress, fitted cream pants and white knee boots go under a large hooded cloak that falls nearly to the floor, with a structured silver belt and subtle geometric panels. White fabric shows every orange smudge, which is the real challenge here, so I set the face thoroughly and keep makeup wipes in a pocket. Choose a light fabric for the cloak or the layers get heavy fast. Soft silver eye shadow, a silver brooch and pale wrist cuffs finish it.
22. Live-Action Gray Ahsoka Tano Costume

Her live-action gray look is grounded and textured. A sleeveless charcoal tunic, wide gray pants, wrapped leg coverings and sturdy boots form the base, with ribbed panels at the waist and shoulders, brown-gray forearm guards and a structured belt. The headpiece should have broad, realistic striping and tails below the shoulders. Orange makeup needs a skin-like finish here; I build it in thin layers with a damp sponge instead of one thick coat. Linen, gauze, canvas and faux leather add depth to the restrained palette, and a gray hooded cape finishes the traveller look.
23. Corvus Cloak Ahsoka Tano Costume

This woodland version adds a rough gray-brown cloak to the live-action outfit. A charcoal sleeveless tunic, loose gray pants, crossed waist wraps, wrist guards and flat boots are the base. Fit the hood behind the headpiece. Muted contour on the cheeks and crisp markings keep the face readable against neutral fabric. I distress the cloak hem by sanding it lightly and pulling a few threads, which looks travelled without looking dirty. A thrifted pair of pants, a sleeveless sweater and a homemade wrap belt can stand in if you're short on time.
24. Temple Visit Ahsoka Tano Costume

The temple-visit look uses soft robes and almost no armour. A slate wrap tunic over a long-sleeve charcoal undershirt, loose pants, gray leg wraps and dark brown boots make the base, with a wide textured sash in place of a rigid belt. Leg wraps slide down unless you anchor them, so I sew a strip of elastic inside the top edge or pin them to the pants. The long headpiece and orange face do the character work. A pale shawl, a hologram-style map disk and a silver message cylinder finish an outfit you can sit and walk in for hours.
25. Ahsoka Training Costume

What would Ahsoka wear to train? A sleeveless dark gray wrap top, tapered charcoal pants, wide fabric waist bindings and flexible black boots, with wrapped forearms and fingerless gloves instead of armour. Use a medium-length headpiece that's light and balanced so it doesn't bounce when you pose. Stretch jersey and athletic knits move with you; I'd sew them with a stretch stitch or the seams pop on the first lunge. A soft gray robe tied at the waist, a small token, a water flask and a communicator are practical extras, and it packs smaller than any armoured version.
26. World Between Worlds Ahsoka Tano Costume

The World Between Worlds look is the adult gray outfit with glowing blue touches. A charcoal wrap tunic, loose gray pants, structured hip panels and tall boots go under a sheer pale-gray cape edged with thin reflective blue trim. Reflective trim is hard to sew through sheer fabric, so I use a narrow zigzag and tissue paper underneath to stop puckering. Small reflective dots on the belt and cuffs suggest stars, and pearly blue eye shadow suits it. A round lit map prop made from clear acrylic or layered cardboard is the finishing piece.
27. White Robe Ahsoka Tano Costume

Her white-robed look pairs a clean wrap tunic with practical layers. An ivory sleeveless top, loose white trousers, a wide woven sash, pale gray forearm guards, cream leg wraps and off-white boots form the base. The striped headpiece gives the only strong blue in the outfit. I mix ivory, cream and light gray on purpose; all one white turns into a flat block in photos. Natural orange makeup, crisp markings and a touch of silver shadow go with a full white cloak you can take off when the room warms up.
28. Peridea Travel Ahsoka Tano Costume

A pale gray poncho over the white tunic and trousers gives a windswept travel look. Pick an asymmetrical, textured weave with a wide neckline so the head-tails fall freely down the back. Cream leg wraps, light gray forearm guards and durable off-white boots finish the base. A matte face holds up better outdoors. Fasten a silver communicator and pouch to a woven belt, and carry a compact star map. If it's windy, a few hidden snaps between poncho and tunic keep it from flipping over your head.
29. Easy DIY Ahsoka Tano Costume

A last-minute Ahsoka can come straight from the closet: a gray sleeveless cardigan, black long-sleeve shirt, loose charcoal pants and flat brown boots, with a wide gray scarf wrapped at the waist for robe panels. The head-tails are the one thing to make. Stuffed fabric tubes sewn to a white hood or soft cap, with blue stripes painted or appliquéd on, work well. Use orange face paint sparingly and cosmetic-grade cream makeup for the white markings. A thrifted belt, fingerless gloves and a cardboard communicator painted silver finish it. Focus on orange, white, blue and gray, and people will know who you are.
30. Comfortable Kids Ahsoka Tano Costume

For kids, I'd put soft materials and secure accessories ahead of accuracy. A navy long-sleeve shirt, matching leggings or joggers, a blue-gray foam vest and brown slip-resistant boots make the base, with a soft fabric belt, light pouches and flexible wrist cuffs. Stuffed fabric head-tails on a stretchy cap are far kinder than molded ones. Patch-test washable orange makeup on the inner wrist the day before, and keep the white markings simple. A hooded blue cloak, a fabric communicator and a small owl plush finish it, with no trailing hems or hard edges for school parties or trick-or-treating.
Wearing Orange Face Paint Without Ruining the Costume
Full-face colour is the hardest part of Ahsoka for most people, and the place where costumes get stained. I'm not a makeup artist, but these are the everyday basics that keep it comfortable and off your clothes.
Before the day
Patch-test any face paint on the inside of your wrist or behind the ear the day before, especially for kids. Use products sold for skin, not craft paint. Water-activated cake makeup goes on thin and feels light; cream makeup covers better but moves more in a warm room.
Putting it on
- Get dressed in everything except the headpiece first, so you aren't pulling a top over a painted face.
- Apply the orange in thin layers with a damp sponge, including the ears, neck and any visible skin at the collar.
- Draw the white markings once the orange is dry, starting with a white pencil outline.
- Press translucent setting powder over the whole face, then mist with setting spray.
Protecting the fabric
Collars, hoods and cape necklines take the most transfer. A strip of dark fabric or soft tissue tucked inside the neckline catches the worst of it. Pale cloaks are the riskiest, so carry wipes and blot instead of rubbing.
Taking it off
An oil-based cleanser or makeup remover breaks down cream makeup better than soap. Water-activated paint usually comes off with warm water and a gentle cleanser. Wash the costume pieces with any marks promptly; orange pigment sets into pale fabric if it's left for days.
Head-Tails First, Armour Later
Every Ahsoka build comes back to the same few things: the striped head-tails, orange skin, white markings and a colour palette of blue, burgundy, gray or white. Below the neck you can choose an animated Padawan, an armoured Mandalore look, a mature traveller or a closet version. Breathable fabric, light foam, a secure headpiece, washable makeup and flat shoes make any of them easier to wear. Get the full silhouette right first, then add the small details if you have time left.
