Most fit problems I see on a full bust start at the button placket. A shirt fits your shoulders and hips, then pulls open across the chest the moment you sit down. That doesn't mean you need to hide under big layers. In my fittings the fix is almost always structural: a V or scoop neck, a seam or tie that marks the waist, and fabric with enough recovery to hold its shape. Below are 25 head-to-toe outfits built for big bust plus size bodies, and for each one I explain what makes it sit properly and where it tends to go wrong.

Your Bra Decides How Every Neckline Here Looks
Before I pull a single dress for a full-busted client, I look at her bra. Most outfit problems on a large cup trace back to a band that's too loose, which lets the bust sit low and forward. When the band is snug and the cups enclose everything, the waist shows again and tops stop pulling across the front.
- The band should feel firm on the loosest hook when new, and stay level across the back instead of riding up.
- The center panel between the cups should lie flat on your breastbone. If it floats, the cups are too small.
- Bend forward and scoop all the breast tissue into the cup, then stand up and check for spillover at the top edge.
- Straps should carry a little weight only. Red marks on the shoulders usually mean the band isn't doing its job.
Bra sizes also shift with weight changes, hormones and age, so a refit every year or so is worth doing. I'd book that before shopping for any of the outfits below, because a dress that fits over the wrong bra won't fit over the right one.
1. Wrap Dress for Big Bust Plus Size

I reach for a wrap dress first with almost every full-bust client, because the tie lets you decide how much fabric crosses the chest. The V-neck also breaks up the width of the bust. A knee-length version in emerald or wine with low block-heel sandals and a crossbody bag is an easy weekend outfit, and small gold hoops keep attention near the face. Fabric decides everything here. A mid-weight jersey or ponte stays put, while a thin, slinky jersey drifts open at the crossover by lunchtime, so I always do a sitting test before buying.
2. Peplum Top and Wide Leg Pants Plus Size

A peplum top marks the waist and then releases over the tummy, which gives a full bust somewhere to land visually. I look for a V or sweetheart neck so the bodice isn't straining. Front-tuck it into high-waisted wide-leg trousers in a neutral or soft print, and wear pointed flats or low mules. Where it goes wrong is the peplum seam: if it sits above your natural waist because the bodice is too short for your bust, the whole top rides up. Check that seam in the mirror before anything else.
3. Tailored Blazer with Jeans Plus Size Big Bust

A blazer with bust darts and a slightly longer back is worth hunting for, because a straight-cut jacket will either pull at the button or swamp you if you size up for the chest. Choose a stretch suiting and wear it open over a silky V-neck cami tucked into dark high-rise straight jeans. Pointed ankle boots, a slim belt, a plain watch and a fine chain finish it. Open is the key word for me. A buttoned single-breasted jacket on a large cup often makes an X of pull lines across the front, while an open one draws two long lines down the body.
4. A-Line Midi Dress Plus Size Big Bust

An A-line midi that's seamed just under the bust and then falls away from the body is the dress I'd suggest to someone who wants low effort. Wide straps or short sleeves matter more than people think, since they cover bra straps and spread the weight. A dark floral reads softer than a bright one on the upper half. Nude block heels lengthen the leg, and a straw tote with sunglasses suits a sunny day. If the underbust seam lands on the fullest part of your bust instead of below it, size up or keep looking.
5. Empire Waist Maxi Dress Plus Size Big Bust

Empire waists are comfortable because the seam sits on the ribcage, usually the narrowest point on a full-busted figure. For hot days I like rayon or cotton voile in a maxi length, with a little smocking or a small ruffle on the bodice for texture. Flat leather sandals, a wide-brim hat and a few stacked bracelets keep it relaxed. One honest caution: on a very large cup, an empire seam can sit too high and make the skirt tent outward from the chest. Shirring at the back helps the seam follow your shape.
6. Button Down Shirt with Pencil Skirt Plus Size

Gaping between buttons is the most common complaint I hear, and it has two fixes. Buy a stretch poplin cut for your bust, then sew a small snap or a strip of fashion tape between the buttons at the fullest point. Tuck a white or striped shirt into a knee-length ponte pencil skirt with a wide, comfortable waistband. Low block pumps, a thin patent belt, a structured tote and pearl studs suit an office. Rolling the sleeves to three-quarter length shows the wrist and forearm, which pulls focus away from the middle.
7. Corset Top and Midi Skirt Plus Size Big Bust

A modern corset top with real boning and a lace-up back gives proper lift, and the back laces mean you can adjust it as the day goes on. Sturdy cotton or a satin blend holds the boning better than thin fabric. I pair it with a tiered midi skirt sitting at the natural waist, so the stiff top meets a soft bottom. Strappy sandals with a heel you can stand in and a small shoulder bag work for an outdoor concert or a gallery evening. Keep jewelry short, like a choker or a pendant above the neckline. Skip this if you dislike anything firm against the ribs.
8. Long Cardigan with Camisole Plus Size Outfit

When a client wants coverage without a jacket, I suggest a longline open cardigan in a fine knit. Hanging open, it makes two long vertical lines down the front. Underneath goes a V-neck cami with a shelf bra or lace trim, tucked into high-waisted skinny jeans or slim ankle pants. Pointed flats in a matching tone and a long pendant repeat the vertical line, and a hobo bag keeps it casual. Avoid chunky knits here. A thick cardigan adds bulk right where you're trying to keep things streamlined.
9. Fit and Flare Dress Plus Size Big Bust

A fit-and-flare dress is fitted through the bust and ribs, then opens into an A-line skirt, so the top half needs to fit precisely. I always look for princess seams in the bodice, because seams shape around a bust far better than a single dart. A sleeveless or cap-sleeve style with a scoop neck, ballet flats or low wedges, a pearl hair clip and a small crossbody bag suit a bridal shower or garden party. Navy, burgundy and charcoal look sharp without fuss. If the bodice only fits by sizing up two sizes, the waist will be loose, and that's a job for a tailor.
10. Scoop Neck Bodysuit and Palazzo Pants Big Bust

Bodysuits stop fabric from bunching at the waistband, which is why I like them under high-waisted pants. A scoop neck is a softer choice than a V for anyone who finds plunges too revealing. I check for a double-layer front, since single-layer jersey shows every bra seam, and for straps set wide enough to cover bra straps. Pair it with fluid crepe or satin palazzo pants, platform sandals and a loose chain belt. Statement earrings pull the eye up. The wide trouser leg balances a fitted top and a full chest.
11. Off Shoulder Top and Straight Leg Jeans Plus Size

Off-shoulder tops worry a lot of full-busted women, and the concern is fair if the neckline slides. Choose an elasticated neckline with full sleeves, which anchor it, and a stable cotton or linen blend. Wear it with high-rise straight jeans in a light or mid wash, front tucked and back loose. Espadrille wedges, a woven belt and a straw clutch make it a summer weekend outfit. The horizontal neckline widens the shoulder line a little, which balances a full bust. You will need a strapless or convertible bra that actually supports your size, and that's the real test.
12. Belted Trench Coat Outfit Plus Size Big Bust

A trench with epaulets, storm flaps and a belt is the coat I'd keep for spring and autumn. Pick a length at or below the knee and belt it loosely over a V-neck knit and a tonal midi slip skirt. Stacked-heel ankle boots and a leather shoulder bag ground it. The belt pulls in the waist, and the open lapels make long lines toward the bust. Try it on buttoned, though. Double-breasted trenches cut for a small chest often won't close over a large cup, so I check the button stance before the color.
13. Solid Jumpsuit Plus Size Big Bust Outfit

For a single piece that does the work, I suggest a V-neck jumpsuit in black, charcoal or midnight navy. A surplice or wrap bodice gives room through the bust, and an elastic or tie waist keeps it from looking like a sack. Wide or straight legs both work. Metallic pointed heels, a slim clutch, statement earrings and a cuff add shine without crowding the neckline. The catch is torso length. A full bust uses up fabric, so jumpsuits often pull at the crotch; try sitting down in the fitting room before you commit.
14. Kimono Sleeve Blouse and Wide Leg Trousers

Kimono or bishop sleeves add width at the arm, and that extra volume balances a full bust rather than adding to it. The blouse needs to be light, crepe de chine or rayon challis, so the sleeves move instead of standing stiffly out. A V-neck with soft drape, tucked loosely into flat-front wide-leg trousers with a side zip, is a clean combination. Heeled mules and a structured bag finish it, with a fine chain bracelet and a ring or two. I'd avoid this sleeve in heavy cotton, because it makes the shoulders look boxy.
15. Denim Jacket and Maxi Dress Plus Size Big Bust

A denim jacket that stops at the high hip, worn open over a printed maxi dress, creates a waistline where the dress might not have one. I choose a jacket with stretch and little distressing, and I don't expect it to button over a full bust, since most won't. The dress underneath should have a V or scoop neck and an empire or natural waist. Flat slides, a canvas tote and a cap suit casual spring days. Stiff denim over soft fabric gives the outfit some structure without feeling dressed up.
16. Mock Wrap Top and A Line Skirt Plus Size

A mock wrap has the V-neck of a true wrap but is sewn closed at the side, so it can't fall open when you lean forward. That makes it my default for clients who want coverage at work. Choose matte jersey with three-quarter sleeves and tuck it fully into an A-line skirt just below the knee. A thin patent belt marks the waist, and low slingbacks with a top-handle bag keep it office-ready. It's also the top I suggest for parent-teacher meetings, because you won't spend the meeting adjusting your neckline.
17. Oversized Sweater and Leggings Plus Size Big Bust

Oversized sweaters can make a full bust look like one block from chin to hip, so I go for a slightly cropped or high-low hem that shows where the body ends. A V or notch neck in a chunky rib, worn with high-waisted faux-leather leggings, keeps the lower half sleek. Lug-sole ankle boots and a long pendant echo the V. Watch for pilling where the arms rub the sides, which chunky ribbed knits do quickly, and check that the leggings are opaque when you bend. A beanie adds warmth for colder days.
18. Boat Neck Top and Flared Jeans Plus Size Big Bust

I like a boat neck on full-busted women more than most stylists expect. It shows the collarbone and widens the shoulder line, which takes visual weight off the chest. It has to be a firm knit, since a thin one sags into a scoop. Pair it with high-waisted flares or bootcuts to balance the shoulder width, and add platform clogs or heeled boots for a seventies feel. A felt hat, suede crossbody and thin bangles finish it. The flare at the hem repeats the wide line at the neck.
19. Peplum Blazer and Tapered Pants Plus Size

A peplum blazer with one button and a flared hem shapes the waist even when worn closed. I look for stretch suiting with only a partial lining, since full linings add bulk. Wear it over a plain V-neck shell or sleeveless blouse with tapered ankle pants in the same or a tonal color. Pointed pumps, a leather watch and a laptop bag make it a strong choice for a presentation. If the single button strains, have the tailor move it slightly toward the edge instead of sizing up.
20. Square Neck Smocked Dress Plus Size Big Bust

A square neckline frames the collarbone and still covers the bust, which makes it a good middle ground for clients who find V-necks too low. I like a midi dress with a smocked bodice panel because the elastic stretches to your shape. Puff or flutter sleeves soften it, and block-heel sandals, a small basket bag and layered fine necklaces finish the look. Smocking gives some support, and some women skip the bra with it. On larger cups I'd still wear one, since smocking alone won't hold much weight through a long day.
21. Surplice Top and Culottes Plus Size Big Bust

A surplice top crosses at the front and ties at the side or back, which gives a deep V and marks the waist in one go. Jersey with good recovery matters, because a weak knit stretches out at the crossover. Pair it with flat-front culottes that end mid-calf, and add slides or low block heels and a round rattan bag. Culottes give room through the hip and thigh and show the ankle. Petite women should check the length: culottes that hit the widest part of the calf can shorten the leg.
22. V Neck Bodysuit and Paperbag Pants Plus Size

A deep V-neck bodysuit in double-layered modal jersey gives a smooth line from shoulder to hip, with nothing bunching at the waistband. Over it go paperbag-waist pants with a self-tie belt and a relaxed straight leg. Tuck fully, then add pointed mules, a chain-link necklace and a slim clutch. The gathered paperbag waist adds a little volume at your narrowest point, which helps balance the bust. I'd skip it if you're sensitive about the tummy, since the gathers sit right on it.
23. Duster Kimono and Cami Dress Plus Size Big Bust

A longline duster kimono in a sheer or semi-sheer print works as a light topper over a plain V-neck cami dress. If the dress has no waist, I add a thin belt. Flat strappy sandals, a beaded pouch and drop earrings keep it simple. The open duster creates long vertical panels down the body, and the cami dress does the support work underneath. I'd pick it for a beach trip or an outdoor ceremony, and I'd look for cami straps wide enough to hide a supportive bra.
24. Belted Shirtdress Plus Size Big Bust Outfit

Shirtdresses let you choose how many buttons to open, which is real control over neckline depth. A midi in crisp cotton poplin or Tencel with a slight A-line and a self-tie belt is what I'd look for. Leave the top one or two buttons undone, tie the belt firmly at the natural waist, and roll the sleeves. Knee-high suede or leather boots, a saddle bag and gold accessories make it work for autumn. Before buying, check the button at bust level when you raise your arms. If it gapes there, add a hidden snap.
25. Ruched Bodycon Dress with Blazer Plus Size Big Bust

A ruched bodycon dress with gathers across the middle and a V-neck is my go-to evening suggestion for a client who wants something fitted. The ruching softens the midsection while the dress still follows the body. A longline open blazer over it covers the arms and adds long vertical lines. Strappy heels, a metallic clutch and crystal drops finish it for cocktails or a celebration dinner. Bodycon fabric shows underwear lines, so plan for smooth, no-line underwear.
Size for the Bust, Then Alter Everything Else
Ready-to-wear is graded for an average cup, so a full bust usually means one of two compromises: buy your waist size and gape at the chest, or buy your bust size and drown at the shoulders and waist. I almost always tell clients to buy for the bust and then alter. Taking fabric away is far easier than adding it.
Alterations worth paying for
- Taking in the waist or back seams of a dress that fits the chest but hangs loose below it.
- Shortening shoulder straps so an underbust seam lands where it should.
- Moving a blazer button slightly outward so it closes without pulling.
- Adding hidden snaps between shirt buttons at bust level.
When to walk away
Shoulders that are too wide are hard and costly to fix, so if a jacket only fits your bust with the shoulder seam hanging off your arm, put it back. The same goes for a bodice with no seams to let out. Brands that sell tops in cup sizes or have a full-bust cut are worth knowing, since they solve the problem before you reach the tailor. If you sew, a full bust adjustment on a pattern adds room at the chest only, and it's one of the most useful alterations to learn.
Necklines, Waists and the Sit-Down Test
After all 25 outfits, the same few rules come up. A V or scoop neck breaks up the width of the bust, and a marked waist shows where your shape narrows. Pieces like tailored blazers and peplum details add structure, and wide or fluid bottoms keep the proportions even. Dark colors on top recede, and long open layers draw the eye up and down. Most of all, always sit, reach and turn in anything before you buy it. A full bust doesn't limit what you can wear. It just means fit at the chest has to come first.
