CMA Fest in Nashville runs four days in June, and the country music is only half of what you're planning for. The other half is heat that sits in the 90s by mid-afternoon, a storm that can roll in without much warning, and a lot of walking between the Broadway honky-tonks, the riverfront and Nissan Stadium. When I plan festival outfits for clients, I start with the shoes and the bag rules, then build the fun part on top. Denim, boots and hats are still the backbone here, but sets, rompers and a bit of sparkle all have a place. Below are 25 full outfits, with notes on where each one works and where it doesn't.

Boots for Four Days of Concrete and Stadium Stairs
Every outfit below leans on cowboy boots, so this is where I'd spend your prep time. Downtown Nashville during the festival means hours on hot pavement, stadium ramps and steep stairs, and new leather boots are stiff at the heel and across the top of the foot. Wear them around the house and on errands for a couple of weeks before you go. If they still rub after that, they won't feel better on day three.
- Pick a walking heel. A low, stacked heel spreads your weight; a tall, narrow one tires the calves quickly on concrete.
- Bring two pairs if you can, and switch every day. Leather that dries overnight is kinder to your feet.
- Wear proper boot socks, not ankle socks. Bare skin against the shaft is where most blisters start.
- Tuck blister pads in your clear bag before the first sign of a hot spot, not after.
If your feet are in bad shape by day two, clean white sneakers with cutoffs or a sundress are a perfectly respectable swap. No one checks your footwear at the gate.
1. CMA Fest Denim Shorts and Graphic Tee Outfit

This is close to the unofficial uniform of the festival, and it earns that spot. I'd go for high-waisted cutoffs in a light or medium wash and tuck in a soft graphic tee with an artist you love or a retro Nashville design. Only a front tuck, so the tee doesn't bunch at the back when you sit on stadium seats. Tan or brown boots you've already worn for weeks, a woven belt with a buckle, a straw hat and a small clear crossbody finish it. Check the inseam before you buy: very short cutoffs ride up once you're climbing stairs all day.
2. CMA Fest Sundress with Cowboy Boots

If I could only pack one dress for CMA Fest, it would be a loose cotton or linen sundress. Gingham, a small floral or a plain pastel all work. A dress that skims rather than clings lets air move, and that matters more than you'd think by the third set of the afternoon. Ankle cowboy boots in a worn leather keep it from looking too sweet. I'd add a wide-brim straw hat, a clear bag and one or two pieces of turquoise. Watch the hem on a windy riverfront day; a fuller skirt with a bit of weight in the cotton behaves better than a floaty rayon.
3. CMA Fest Denim Skirt and Tie-Front Top Outfit

A denim skirt gives you the same easy feel as shorts with a bit more coverage. A front-slit midi or a button-front mini in a medium wash both work. I pair it with a light tie-front top in white eyelet or gingham, knotted right at the natural waist so it lines up with the skirt's waistband instead of floating above it. Low-heel boots or ankle booties, a couple of gold chains, sunglasses and a clear crossbody. It carries over from afternoon sets to dinner downtown without a change, which is why I like it for the day you won't get back to the hotel.
4. CMA Fest Fringe Jacket and Denim Shorts

Fringe moves when you walk and dance, and that's the whole reason to wear it. Throw a suede or faux leather fringe jacket over a plain white tank or a cropped ribbed tee, then add distressed shorts and cognac boots. I keep jewelry to a thin necklace and a few bracelets because the fringe already gives the eye plenty to do. A neutral felt hat ties it together. Be honest about the weather: real suede hates rain and spots easily, so if the forecast looks stormy, I'd switch to a faux version that wipes clean.
5. CMA Fest Two-Piece Set with Cowboy Boots

Matching sets solve the morning decision in one go. Look for a cropped button-down and high-waisted shorts in a linen blend, gingham or a solid earth tone. In June humidity, linen wrinkles within the hour, and I tell people to accept that rather than fight it; the creases read relaxed, not sloppy. Add leather boots, a plain leather belt, a straw hat with a ribbon band, small gold pieces and your clear bag. The real value shows on day three, when you can wear the top with denim and the shorts with a tee.
6. CMA Fest Crop Top and Cutoff Denim Shorts

For the hottest afternoon, a crop top and cutoffs are hard to beat. I like a ribbed or embroidered crop in white, dusty blue or a soft floral, worn with frayed cutoffs that land at mid-thigh. White or tan boots keep everything light. A western belt with silver concho details and one pendant are enough. The one thing I'd add is sunscreen across your midriff and shoulders before you leave, because that strip of skin burns first. A clear belt bag keeps your hands free on Lower Broadway.
7. CMA Fest Romper with Cowgirl Boots

A romper is one piece to put on and you're done. A light floral, a solid rust or a soft chambray all suit the festival, and details like a smocked waist or puff sleeves give it some shape. Cowgirl boots, plain or embroidered, keep it country. Stack a few bracelets, add hoops and carry a clear crossbody. You get the ease of a dress and still sit on the grass without worrying. My one warning is the restroom line: a romper means undressing almost fully, so pick a style with a front zip or buttons over a back zip.
8. CMA Fest Denim Mini Dress with White Boots

A denim mini dress in a light wash does a lot of work with very little effort. A button-front style lets you open or close the neckline as the day heats up, and a raw hem keeps it casual. White cowboy boots are what make it look fresh against the blue. Add a western belt, a few silver chains and a neutral felt hat, and keep the bag small and clear. One fit note from the fitting room: stiff, non-stretch denim can pull across the hips when you sit, so I size up slightly and belt the waist.
9. CMA Fest Maxi Dress and Western Booties

A maxi dress feels unexpected in a crowd full of shorts, and it covers a lot of skin from the sun. I'd pick rayon or cotton in a floral or a solid earth tone, light enough that it doesn't trap heat around your legs. Low-heel western booties in brown or tan, a leather belt at the waist, one turquoise ring and a wide-brim hat. It suits daytime shows on the riverfront well. Check the length in your boots, not barefoot: if the hem drags, it will be filthy by dinner after a day of festival ground.
10. CMA Fest Plaid Shirt and Denim Cutoffs

A plaid shirt is the layer I'd always tie around my waist for CMA Fest nights. Wear a light plaid button-up knotted over a white crop top or tank, with light-wash cutoffs and broken-in brown boots. Roll the sleeves twice, above the elbow, so they stay put. A leather belt with an older buckle, a straw hat and a little gold keep it plain and real. Once the sun goes down and the river breeze picks up, untie the shirt and wear it open over your shoulders.
11. CMA Fest White Eyelet Dress and Tan Boots

White eyelet in June feels right, and the little holes in the fabric let some air through. I put it with tan or caramel boots so the contrast stays soft, then a thin brown belt, gold hoops and a neutral straw hat. A clear bag finishes it. Two honest cautions. Eyelet is often lined, so check that the lining is cotton and not polyester, which turns sticky fast. And white shows sweat and festival dust, so I'd choose a looser cut and keep a stain wipe in your bag.
12. CMA Fest Boho Kimono and Denim Shorts

A printed kimono adds color without adding heat, which makes it one of the easiest layers to wear at a summer festival. Pick a floral or paisley with fringe trim and put it over a white tank or bandeau, with high-waisted shorts and suede ankle booties. Layer necklaces, add a few rings and finish with a wide-brim hat. This boho-meets-western look shows up well against the murals around town. In a packed crowd, though, long fringe catches on bags and chairs, so I'd pick a kimono that ends at the hip rather than the knee.
13. CMA Fest Leather Pants and Tube Top Outfit

Leather pants are an evening idea, and I'd only suggest them when the forecast dips. Cropped or ankle-length in black, chocolate or deep olive, with a fitted tube top or a silky cami. Heeled cowboy boots and a structured hat, with one cuff and nothing else. This takes its cue from artists like Lainey Wilson, who wears leather on stage often. Real leather doesn't breathe, though, and in humid heat it gets uncomfortable quickly. A faux leather with a little stretch is the more forgiving pick for a stadium night.
14. CMA Fest Crochet Top and High-Waisted Shorts

Crochet has a handmade texture that fits the festival's 70s side. A cream or bright crochet tank over a nude bandeau, high-waisted vintage-wash shorts, tan boots and a thin braided belt. I'd add some turquoise, mixed-metal bracelets, big sunglasses and a soft felt hat. The open stitch lets heat out, which is what you want during afternoon sets. Check how open the weave is in daylight before you commit; some crochet tops are far more see-through outside than they look in a bedroom mirror.
15. CMA Fest Denim Overalls and Bandeau Top

Overalls are playful and surprisingly practical, mainly because of the pockets. A relaxed, distressed pair over a solid bandeau or cropped tank, cuffs rolled once or twice. Boots if you've broken them in, clean white sneakers if your feet are already tired by day two. I tie a bandana at the neck or wrist, add hoops and carry a clear backpack. Denim overalls are heavy in full sun, so I'd save them for an overcast day or the morning shows. They're also a good break from shorts if your legs are sunburned.
16. CMA Fest Vintage Band Tee and Distressed Shorts

A worn band tee says you know the music, not only the dress code. Look for a soft, faded shirt with Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton or Willie Nelson, then loosely tuck it into raw-hem distressed shorts. Brown boots and a leather belt with a scuffed buckle, plus a trucker cap or an old ball cap. I keep the extras to a watch and a small clear bag. Real vintage cotton is thin and soft, which is great in heat. If you're buying a new tee, wash it a couple of times first so it drapes instead of standing stiff.
17. CMA Fest All-White Denim and Cowboy Boots

All white stands out against Nashville's colorful backdrop, and it reads crisp in daytime photos. White denim shorts or a white denim mini with a white tank, cropped tee or eyelet blouse, then white or ivory boots. I break it up with a tan belt and a straw hat so the outfit has somewhere for the eye to land. Silver or turquoise adds a bit more. White denim is more see-through than blue, so I'd check pocket linings in daylight and wear nude underwear. Expect boot dust on the hem by evening.
18. CMA Fest Chaps and Denim Shorts Outfit

Chaps are the loudest western piece on this list, and that's the point. Wear suede or faux leather chaps over your favorite shorts, with a fitted tank or a close long-sleeve tee so the chaps stay in focus. Boots in the same leather tone, a felt hat, a bit of turquoise and a concho belt. This is for the person who wants full western flair and enjoys the attention at the gates. I'd keep them for the evening; full-length suede on a 90-degree afternoon is hot, and they make sitting on bleachers awkward.
19. CMA Fest Printed Midi Skirt and Tank Top

A printed midi skirt is a step up from denim that never looks like you tried too hard. Paisley, floral or a southwestern print in a flowy cut, with a ribbed tank tucked in. I always pull the tank color from the print so the outfit holds together. Western booties or low boots, a wide leather belt at the waist, a few gold chains, a hat and a clear structured bag. It goes from an afternoon acoustic set to the headliner without a change. In wind, a lightweight midi blows up, so I'd look for one with a lining or a bit of weight.
20. CMA Fest Off-Shoulder Top and Frayed Shorts

An off-shoulder top softens the rugged parts of a festival outfit. White cotton, a soft floral or gingham, worn with frayed shorts, tan ankle boots and a straw hat. A choker or small pendant sits well on the open neckline, and a clear crossbody keeps your hands free. The fit matters here: if the elastic is loose, you'll spend the day pulling it back up. I test it by raising both arms over my head in the fitting room. If it stays, it'll survive a chorus.
21. CMA Fest Denim-on-Denim and Western Accessories

Denim on denim needs contrast to work, and the western details are what give it that. Pair a light-wash jacket or vest with medium-wash shorts or a denim skirt, then break up the blue with a belt and a big buckle. Embroidery, a bandana at the neck or a bold turquoise necklace all help separate the layers. Warm brown boots and a straw or felt hat finish it. The common mistake is matching washes exactly, which flattens the outfit in photos. I keep at least two shades of difference between top and bottom.
22. CMA Fest Leather Shorts and Fringe Top

Leather shorts give a stage feel to an ordinary festival day. High-waisted black or brown, with a fringed top or a blouse with fringe on the sleeves. The leather holds still and the fringe moves, and that contrast is what makes the outfit work. Heeled booties or classic boots, some silver and a wide-brim felt hat, plus your clear bag. I'd wear this to an evening show when you want to look more dressed. Faux leather shorts are easier in humidity; real leather will stick to the backs of your legs.
23. CMA Fest Jumpsuit with Western Belt

A jumpsuit is a whole outfit in one piece and gets overlooked at festivals. I like a sleeveless or short-sleeve style in linen or crepe, with a tooled western belt or a big buckle at the waist. Boots or heeled booties, a few bracelets, statement earrings and a hat. It covers more than a romper and still breathes, and the long line makes you look taller. The restroom issue is the same as with a romper, so I'd only wear it on a day with dinner plans after the music, when polish is worth that trade-off.
24. CMA Fest Blazer and Denim Shorts Outfit

An oversized blazer over festival basics looks pulled together without much effort. Unlined linen or cotton in beige, khaki or a soft white is the only kind I'd bring in June; anything with a polyester lining traps heat. Push the sleeves up and wear it over a tank or bodysuit with distressed shorts, pointed western booties and a clear structured bag. It suits media events, VIP areas or anyone tired of seeing the same outfit everywhere. When the sun gets strong, drape it over your shoulders.
25. CMA Fest Rhinestone Top and Cutoff Shorts

Rhinestones, studs, and sparkle are all over CMA Fest, taken straight from what the artists wear on stage. A rhinestone tank, a studded denim top or a sequined blouse, with plain black or light-wash cutoffs so the top does the talking. Metallic or glitter boots push the theme further; a rhinestone hat band or big earrings do the same at a smaller scale. Save this one for night shows at the stadium, where the lights catch it. Sequins scratch the inside of your arms over a long night, so I check the seams for exposed stitching first.
Sweat, Sunburn and the Afternoon Storm
Nashville in June is humid, and the weather does more to these outfits than any styling choice. I plan around three things.
Fabric that breathes
Cotton, linen and loose crochet let sweat evaporate. Polyester, tight stretch denim and real leather hold it against your skin, so I save those for evening sets. Light colors stay cooler under direct sun, but they also show sweat lines, which is why I'd go a size looser on anything white.
Sun on exposed skin
Shoulders, the part in your hair and the strip above cutoffs burn first. A hat with a real brim helps more than a cute small one, and I put sunscreen on before dressing so straps and waistbands don't leave unprotected lines.
Storms that roll through
Summer storms in Tennessee often arrive fast and pass quickly, and outdoor stages can pause for lightning. A folded poncho fits in a clear bag. Suede, raw leather and straw hats don't love a downpour, so on a stormy forecast I'd pick faux leather, a felt hat you don't mind getting wet and boots that have been conditioned recently.
Packing the Bag for Day One on Broadway
Four days of CMA Fest is long, and the outfits that hold up are the ones built on comfort first. Breathable fabric, boots you've already broken in and a bag that passes the stadium check do most of the work. After that, the denim, the fringe or the sparkle is entirely up to you. Pack for heat and one storm, plan for a lot of walking and leave a little room in your bag for a hat or a tee you pick up in Nashville. Wear what lets you forget about your clothes and sing along.
