Coachella 2026 has wrapped its two hot weekends at the Empire Polo Club, and the clothes moved on from the flower-crown era for good. What I saw replace it was more personal: desert Western pieces with real wear in them, metallics, crochet that looked handmade rather than mass-produced, and plenty of late-90s vintage. Headliners Sabrina Carpenter and Karol G brought big stage wardrobes, Hailey Bieber wore vintage John Galliano-era Dior to the Rhode World pop-up, and the Jenner sisters ranged from plain basics to rare archive pieces. Below are twenty full looks from the weekend, each with my notes on what makes it wearable for a long, dusty day and how to adapt it if you're planning for next year.

From Ninety Degrees at Noon to a Chill After Midnight
Every outfit below looks great in a photo at 4 p.m. The challenge is the twelve hours around it. The Coachella Valley in April is usually hot in the afternoon, often in the high 80s or 90s, and dry desert air loses heat quickly after dark. Nights can drop into the 50s, and people in tiny tops and shorts end up shivering by the last set.
When I plan a festival outfit, I build it in two halves:
- The day layer: the outfit you're photographed in. Light, breathable, sun-covering where possible.
- The night layer: one piece you can carry all day without hating it. A denim or leather jacket tied at the waist, a light oversized shirt, or a thin knit that folds flat into a bag.
- The bridge: shoes and a hat that work for both. Boots handle the evening chill better than sandals, and a hat is useless after dark, so pick one you won't mind carrying.
If an outfit doesn't have a night layer, I'd add one before anything else. It's the most common thing people forget.
1. Suede Fringe Jacket With Denim Cutoffs And Western Boots

The Western revival was everywhere, and a suede fringe jacket over denim cutoffs was its clearest form. A light tan or chocolate suede jacket with whipstitching and long fringe moves with every step, which is exactly why it looks good in golden-hour photos. Under it, a white ribbed tank keeps things cool, and high-waisted frayed shorts finish the outline. The boots matter most: flat leather cowboy boots, already broken in, in wheat or black. A low leather belt with a big buckle, layered silver necklaces and a felt hat complete it. One warning on suede: it marks with water and darkens with dust, so I'd treat it with a protector spray before the trip and keep it off the ground.
2. White Crochet Two-Piece With Cowboy Boots

Lisa of Blackpink wore a white macramé mini dress under an oversized leather jacket, and the crochet two-piece became one of the most copied outfits of the festival. A matching white crochet bralette and midi skirt set feels handmade and lets air through, and the open stitch shows a little skin without looking undressed. Cream or tan cowboy boots keep it on festival ground rather than a resort. Oversized black sunglasses and one structured bag in a strong color like cherry red give it a single point of contrast. Check the lining before you buy. An unlined crochet skirt is sheer in direct sun, and a slip in your skin tone fixes it.
3. Sheer Lace Bodysuit With High-Waisted Trousers

Sabrina Carpenter ended her headline set in a custom Dior black lace corseted bodysuit with a sculptural cape, and sheer bodysuits followed her everywhere that weekend. For a crowd version, I'd pick a black lace long-sleeve bodysuit over a simple triangle bralette, which gives coverage where you want it. High-waisted cream or bone wide-leg trousers that just break over platform boots give a 70s proportion, and a slim leather belt adds structure against the lace. Silver sculptural sunglasses and a small crescent bag finish it. Long lace sleeves in the afternoon sun are warm, so this is a sunset-to-late-night look, not a midday one.
4. Micro Shorts With A Baby Tee And Moto Boots

Micro shorts were all over the polo fields in stretch denim, soft leather or crisp cotton, almost always with a baby tee or a tiny top. Leather micro shorts in black or brown with a cropped white baby tee ending right at the waist is the version I'd build. The footwear keeps it from looking too sweet: moto boots with lug soles and silver hardware. Mixed-metal chains and an oversized cotton or linen button-down, which comes off when the heat peaks and goes back on for sun cover, make it practical. A canvas belt nods to the utility trend that ran alongside. Leather shorts in desert heat get sticky fast, so stretch denim is the more comfortable choice for a full day.
5. Chainmail Mini Dress Over A Bikini

Metallics and chainmail were among the freshest directions this year, bright against all that sand-colored landscape. A silver or gold chainmail mini dress worn over a black bikini top and high-cut briefs photographs brilliantly in direct sun, scattering light every time you move. Footwear stays simple on purpose: flat leather gladiators or plain black flip-flops. A charm belt slung low and oval vintage sunglasses finish it. Metal heats up in the sun and can pinch skin at the links. A cotton slip or a full bikini set underneath means it's not resting directly on bare skin all afternoon.
6. Suede Vest With Baggy Jorts And A Cowboy Hat

Olandria wore a chocolate-brown cowgirl set that summed up the modern Western mood on the grounds. A fitted suede vest with corset lacing or snaps, worn straight over a triangle bikini top, gives a structured upper half. Below, very baggy jorts ending mid-thigh bring a younger, looser feel, the same energy Becky G showed with her painted carpenter shorts. Flat brown cowboy boots and a wide-brim hat tie the Western theme together, and a loosely tied bandana with stacked silver cuffs adds texture. The bandana does real work too; pulled up over the nose, it keeps out dust on windy afternoons. Keep the rest plain, and the look stays on the right side of costume.
7. Sheer Maxi Dress With A Bralette And Combat Boots

Teyana Taylor turned heads in a metallic fishnet gown full of embellishment, and it showed how a sheer floor-length dress can work on festival ground. My wearable version is a sheer mesh maxi in black or soft sand over a black bralette and high-waisted briefs. Lace-up combat boots underneath give the delicate fabric some grit. A wide leather belt worn low shapes the waist, and mirrored shield sunglasses push it toward futuristic. A full-length hem drags in dust, so I'd hem it to clear the boot by a couple of inches rather than skim the floor. It's dramatic enough for the main stage and still comfortable for hours.
8. Vintage Slip Dress With Strappy Sandals

Hailey Bieber caused a stir at the Rhode World pop-up in a vintage 1998 Christian Dior silk slip dress in canary yellow with fuchsia trim, originally designed by John Galliano. The slip dress became the dress of the weekend because it's easy, cool and catches light. A bias-cut silk or satin midi slip in a bold color or two tones needs almost nothing else. Flat strappy leather sandals, a gold nameplate necklace and slim oval sunglasses lean into the late-90s feel, and a small bag in a bright shade adds polish. Silk shows sweat at the back and under the bust, so a deeper color hides it better than pale yellow on a hot day.
9. All-White Monochrome Set With Black Boots

Kendall Jenner made the best case for restraint: a cropped white tank from the Wardrobe.NYC x Hailey Bieber collaboration, white denim cutoffs and heavy black biker boots. The white base looks clean against the dust, and the black boots give it weight. A backwards baseball cap and a suede shoulder bag add texture without breaking the simplicity. It worked because nothing in it was a costume, just good basics put together carefully. If you want to try it, the white needs to be thick enough not to show what's underneath, and you should bring a backup tank. White doesn't survive a full day of sitting on festival grass.
10. Crochet Midi Dress With Platform Sandals

Crochet moved on again this year, from plain knit to pieces with metallic thread, beadwork and shine worked into the yarn. A cream or ecru crochet midi with a flared hem and a little shimmer looks lovely in desert light. Worn over a matching bikini, it moves freely and breathes in the hottest hours. Platform sandals or wooden wedges add height and a 70s feel without the heat of a closed boot. Small gold hoops, a slim leather crossbody and one anklet are all it needs. Beaded crochet is heavy and snags on bag zips and chairs, so I keep the bag smooth-sided with this one.
11. Band Tee With Baggy Jorts And Chunky Sneakers

Kylie Jenner opened her weekend in an oversized rusty green tank printed with Justin Bieber's face, black cycling shorts and blue slides. Artist merch with baggy bottoms became the most accessible trend of the festival. A vintage-wash band or graphic tee, cropped or knotted at the waist, goes with ultra-baggy jorts that end mid-thigh. Chunky retro sneakers or lug-sole skate shoes give it street energy, and a forward cap, mixed chains and a canvas tote finish it. This is the outfit I'd pick for the longest walking day, since every piece forgives sweat, dust and sitting on the ground.
12. Fringe Leather Jacket With A Mini Skirt

Fringe has outlived every festival decade, and this year it showed up in laser-cut leather and silk cord instead of the usual suede. A black leather jacket with heavy fringe across the back and sleeves, open over a halter top, moves dramatically when you walk. A high-waisted black mini in stretch fabric or light denim keeps the lower half slim. Black cowboy boots with a small stacked heel carry the Western thread, and a red bandana headband with silver and turquoise jewelry suits the desert. A leather jacket is too warm in the afternoon, so plan to carry it until sundown, when it finally earns its place.
13. Cargo Pants With A Fitted Crop Top And Chunky Sneakers

Utility dressing found its place through relaxed cargo pants with close-fitting tops. Sand-colored cotton cargos with big side pockets, worn low on the hips, bring a workwear attitude that feels new next to all the decoration. A black fitted crop top or ribbed bodysuit balances the volume. Chunky sneakers or trail trainers handle the long distances between stages. A cap, small nylon crossbody and a carabiner clipped to a belt loop make it genuinely functional. Those big pockets are useful; I'd use them for a phone and lip balm and skip the bag entirely. Watch the hem, though, since long cargos drag and fray in dust.
14. Tie-Front Top With Wide-Leg Pants And A Statement Belt

Relaxed tailoring was a quieter direction this year, and it's a good alternative to shorts for anyone who doesn't want bare legs in strong sun. A light linen or cotton tie-front blouse with full sleeves in cream or soft sage moves softly in the breeze. Wide palazzo pants in the same tone make a long, cool line. A leather belt with a large brass buckle defines the waist and adds the Western touch, and flat sandals or mules keep it grounded. Tortoiseshell sunglasses and a structured straw bag finish it. Linen breathes better than almost anything else in dry heat, and the creases suit this look.
15. Denim-On-Denim With Embellished Micro Shorts

Double denim was back with new proportions and decoration. A light-wash oversized denim shirt worn open over a white ribbed tank makes the top layer, and high-waisted micro denim shorts with rhinestones, pearl beading or embroidered patches are the standout below. A dark leather belt with silver hardware separates the two washes, which matters; two denims of the same shade sitting against each other look like a mistake rather than a choice. White or cream flat ankle boots lengthen the leg. A red lip, layered gold necklaces and a denim cap finish it. Embellished shorts shed stones, so check the stitching before a day of sitting down.
16. Lace Long-Sleeve Top With High-Waisted Leather Shorts

Lace and mesh stayed popular because they breathe and suggest more than they show. A black lace long-sleeve top with a high neck and a soft floral pattern, over a black bandeau, covers everything while being fully sheer. High-waisted matte black leather shorts give it a tougher edge against the delicate lace. Pointed flat boots with silver hardware and a chain-strap bag push it toward night. Smoky eyes and slicked-back hair finish the rave mood. Wear sunscreen under the lace on your arms; mesh lets plenty of sun through, and patterned sunburn is a real risk. It's a golden hour to late-night outfit.
17. Metallic Two-Piece Set With Futuristic Sunglasses

Liquid-metal fabrics in silver and pewter were some of the most photographed textures of the weekend. A matching metallic bralette and mini skirt in crinkled silver or champagne foil is a focal point on its own, with no layering needed. Sculptural futuristic sunglasses with mirrored lenses, like the chrome bug-eye pair Teyana Taylor wore, push the space-age feel further. Flat silver sandals continue the metal, and a low chain belt adds movement. Foil fabrics don't breathe at all, so I'd save this set for the evening or for a few hours, with something cotton in the bag for the rest of the day.
18. Sheer Crochet Top Over A Bikini With Denim Cutoffs

A crochet top over swimwear is one of the smartest ways to handle desert heat and still feel covered. A cream or rust crochet pullover with an open stitch over a black or brown bikini top layers texture in a practical way. High-waisted vintage cutoffs with a raw hem keep the bottom half classic. Flat gladiator sandals or flip-flops and a wide-brim sun hat handle the afternoon sun. Stacked beaded bracelets and a woven crossbody give it a handmade feel. This is the relaxed boho look at its most wearable. A wide brim is worth the bother, because the scalp and shoulders burn first in that kind of sun.
19. Moto Jacket Over A Lace Mini Dress With Combat Boots

Soft lace against industrial pieces made some of the most interesting outfits of the year. A white or blush lace mini with a fluted hem and scalloped edges is romantic and light. A cropped black leather moto jacket with silver zips, thrown over the shoulders, gives it attitude. Heavy combat boots with a deep lug sole make walking across the polo fields realistic. A black leather mini bag and dark oval sunglasses keep the edge. I like this one for practical reasons: the jacket handles the temperature drop after sunset, which catches out more people than the heat does.
20. Boho Blouse With Bloomer Pants And Wedge Sandals

The softer boho direction this season meant full, romantic shapes that let air move. A billowy sheer blouse with poet sleeves and ruffles in ivory or pale peach gives a vintage feel up top. Below, matching bloomer pants with gathered hems and an elastic waist make a playful proportion. Braided wedge sandals in wood and leather add height and stay comfortable. A floppy wide-brim hat and turquoise and silver jewelry finish it in a 70s way. Sheer poet sleeves catch on everything in a crowd, so this is a look for someone who doesn't mind a little care, or who's spending most of the day at the edges.
Which Boots Survive Three Days of Dust and Grass
Festival days involve a lot of walking, much of it standing still in a crowd, which is harder on feet than moving. New cowboy boots are the worst choice you can make. The leather is stiff at the ankle and heel and will rub you raw by the first evening. If you're buying boots for the trip, buy them weeks ahead and wear them around the house and on errands until they flex easily.
Flat soles with some cushioning beat heels of any kind, since grass and dust are uneven. Lug-sole moto and combat boots grip best. Flip-flops and thin gladiators look good but give no protection from crowds stepping on your toes, and dust gets between your feet and the sole. I'd pack them only for the walk back to camp or the hotel, and wear socks with boots, since thin cotton crew socks reduce rubbing far more than bare feet.
Getting Suede, Crochet and Sequins Home in One Piece
Many of these looks use fabrics that don't love dust. When you get back, give suede a gentle brush with a suede brush once it's fully dry, never wet, since rubbing damp suede sets the stain. Crochet and macramé should be hand-washed cool and dried flat, or they stretch out of shape on a hanger.
Beaded and sequined pieces belong in a mesh laundry bag or a gentle hand-wash, and metallic foil fabrics are often spot-clean only, so check the label before anything goes near water. Shake everything out outside first. The fine desert dust gets into seams and comes out in the wash as grit.
Dress for the Day You'll Actually Have in the Desert
This year showed that festival dressing has grown out of costume. The strongest outfits felt like the people wearing them, not a list of trends ticked off. Some leaned into suede and cowboy boots, some into chainmail and sheer layers, and some into a plain white tank and cutoffs; what they shared was intent. Texture contrast, real vintage and a few meaningful accessories replaced flower crowns and fringe on everything. When you plan your own, start with what feels like you, then check it against the heat, the dust and the walking. If it passes all three, the desert does the rest.
