Celebrity street photos are some of the most useful fall references I know, because they show real clothes on moving bodies instead of a flat product shot. What keeps repeating this season is relaxed tailoring, leather outerwear, straight-leg denim and light coats that handle a cool morning and a warm afternoon. I never tell anyone to copy a designer outfit piece by piece. I look at three things in each photo: where the jacket ends, how many colors are in play, and what the shoes do to the leg line. Those formulas cost nothing to borrow, and they adjust to your budget, your frame and your weather. Below are fifteen looks I'd actually rebuild from an ordinary closet, with notes on where each one goes wrong.

Reading a Street Style Photo Like a Stylist
A paparazzi shot is a finished product, and most of the work that made it happen is invisible. Before I copy anything, I break the photo into parts I can actually find in a normal closet.
- Where each layer ends. Note whether the jacket stops at the waist, the hip or mid-thigh. That single line changes the proportions more than the brand ever will.
- How many colors there are. Most of the looks below use two neutrals and, at most, one accent. Count them and match the count, not the exact shades.
- What the shoe does. A pointed toe lengthens, a loafer with socks shortens slightly and a chunky sneaker makes the outfit feel casual. Pick the effect you want first.
- How things fit at the shoulder and hem. Celebrities are usually tailored. If a borrowed piece pulls at the shoulder or drags on the ground, it won't look like the photo regardless of the label.
Keep in mind that many of these photos are taken mid-stride, in good light, with clothes that were pinned or steamed minutes before. Your version will look more lived-in, and that's fine. The goal is to borrow the structure, not chase the snapshot.
1. Kendall Jenner Brown Jacket And Black Jeans Outfit

Brown over black is one of my favorite pairings because it reads warmer than all-black but stays just as easy. For a Kendall Jenner-style version, start with a cropped jacket in chocolate or espresso suede, leather or a wool blend, worn over a fitted black crewneck so nothing bunches at the waist. Straight black jeans and pointed ankle boots carry the leg line down without a break. The jacket length is where I spend the most time: on a petite frame a waist-length cut keeps the legs long, while a curvier figure usually looks better in one that skims the hip bone. Gold earrings warm up the dark neutrals near the face. If you choose suede, give it a water and stain spray before the first wear, because a single rainy commute can leave dark spots.
2. Hailey Bieber Leather Jacket And Loafers Outfit

An oversized leather jacket only looks intentional when everything under it is plainer than you'd expect. In this Hailey Bieber-inspired look, a roomy black or dark brown jacket goes over a white tee or a thin gray sweater, with relaxed straight jeans hemmed to full length. The loafers and white crew socks are the detail people remember, and they're comfortable for a lot of walking once the leather has softened. A structured tote, small hoops and slim sunglasses finish it. My caution: real leather in a big cut is heavy, and on a small frame it can swallow the shoulders. I'd look for a jacket that ends at the upper thigh and keep the inner layer close-fitting so there's still a body inside the coat.
3. Zendaya Relaxed Suit And White T-Shirt Outfit

Can a suit feel casual enough for a Saturday? It can, if the jacket is soft and the base layer is a T-shirt. For a Zendaya-inspired version, pair a lightly structured blazer with matching wide-leg trousers in charcoal, taupe, navy or deep olive, and swap the blouse for a clean white crewneck. Brown loafers add fall warmth, though pointed flats or a low block heel do the same job. The hem matters more than anything else here. Wide trousers should skim the top of the shoe and stop just short of the floor, and almost nobody gets that off the rack, so I budget for a tailor. A nipped blazer waist gives shape; a straight, boxier cut looks more current but needs the trousers to be long to stay in proportion.
4. Taylor Swift Plaid Skirt And Knee-High Boots Outfit

Plaid and tall boots are about as autumnal as clothing gets, which is exactly why this one can tip into costume if you're not careful. For a Taylor Swift-inspired outfit, choose a high-waisted plaid skirt in burgundy, forest green, camel or navy, a fitted black turtleneck, opaque tights and knee-high boots with a low block heel. A tailored wool coat goes on top when it turns cold. I keep the accessories grown-up: one small top-handle bag and maybe a red lip, never a beret, a bow and loafers all at once. If a mini feels too short for your day, an A-line midi in the same plaid holds the look together and covers the boot shaft neatly.
5. Gigi Hadid Cardigan And Straight-Leg Jeans Outfit

Early fall is unpredictable, and a cardigan is the layer I reach for most when the forecast can't decide. For a Gigi Hadid feel, wear a slightly oversized cardigan in oatmeal, rust or heather gray, buttoned partway over a fitted tank or cotton tee, with high-rise straight jeans in a medium wash. Suede ankle boots carry the warm palette down and beat sandals once mornings dip. A roomy leather tote, small sunglasses and a couple of fine necklaces are enough. Chunky knits add width at the middle, so I usually front-tuck just the hem or leave it fully open for a long vertical line. Watch the underarms and the sides where a bag rubs: that's where wool and acrylic blends start to pill first, and a fabric comb fixes it in minutes.
6. Bella Hadid Suede Jacket And Flared Jeans Outfit

Suede does most of the work in this outfit; the rest just needs to stay quiet. Build a Bella Hadid-inspired look around a fitted suede jacket in camel, tobacco or burnt orange, a cream ribbed top or fine turtleneck underneath, and high-rise flared jeans over heeled ankle boots. A leather belt ties the jacket to the boots and marks the waist. I'd pick a gentle flare over a true bell shape if you want to wear these for years. Hem length is the make-or-break detail: with the boots on, the denim should cover most of the boot and float about half an inch off the ground. Any longer and the back of the hem frays and soaks up puddles. The overall effect nods to the 1970s without looking like fancy dress.
7. Zoë Kravitz Wax Jacket And Slip Skirt Outfit

Mixing a rugged jacket with a fluid skirt is the kind of contrast I like best, because each piece makes the other look less predictable. For a Zoë Kravitz-inspired outfit, layer an olive wax jacket over a thin black sweater and a satin midi skirt. Wax cotton sheds light rain well, but it marks easily and can leave a residue on pale fabrics, so keep the skirt dark. Sheer black tights add warmth, slingbacks suit mild days and low ankle boots take over when it's colder. A compact black shoulder bag and one fine chain are plenty. Satin clings and shows every line underneath; if that bothers you, a lined bias-cut skirt or a heavier crepe gives the same movement with more forgiveness. I'd wear this to a gallery or a relaxed dinner.
8. Jennifer Lawrence Trench Coat And Wide-Leg Trousers Outfit

A trench is the most forgiving coat I know for transitional weather, since it blocks wind without trapping heat. For a Jennifer Lawrence-style take, wear a long beige or stone trench over a fine black knit and full-length wide-leg trousers in charcoal or dark brown. Minimal leather sneakers make it a walking outfit; loafers push it toward the office. A large shoulder bag holds everything without breaking the line. I often roll the sleeves once to show a little wrist, which makes the whole coat look less formal. If you're under about five foot four, I'd keep the trench at mid-calf and the trousers only moderately wide, since a floor-skimming coat over very full legs can bury a shorter frame.
9. Selena Gomez Knit Dress And Tall Boots Outfit

When I want a client dressed in one move, I hand them a knit dress. For a Selena Gomez-inspired outfit, choose a ribbed midi in chocolate, burgundy, black or deep green with a softly defined waist and a skirt that flares slightly from the hip. Knee-high boots in a matching neutral make the leg one continuous color, which is what keeps this from looking busy. A belted wool coat covers colder days and a cropped jacket handles early fall. Ribbed knits are honest about what's underneath, so smooth, no-show underwear and a slip, or a dress with its own lining, make a real difference. I'd also check the dress after sitting: cheaper ribbing bags out at the seat and won't recover until it's washed.
10. Rihanna Bomber Jacket And Maxi Skirt Outfit

Sporty and elegant pieces sit together well when one of them is clearly the volume and the other is the line. In this Rihanna-inspired version, an oversized bomber in black, olive or deep burgundy goes over a fitted long-sleeve top and a straight or softly flowing maxi skirt. A back slit lets you walk normally and shows a flash of pointed ankle boot. I keep the bomber open so there's a long stripe of the top running down the center, then add bold sunglasses, a structured bag and one sculptural earring. For a plus-size frame, a shorter bomber that stops at the natural waist shows shape; tall women can go for a skirt that reaches the ankle without any worry about dragging.
11. Dakota Johnson Blazer And Dark Denim Outfit

Some of the most useful celebrity looks are nothing but basics worn with care. For a Dakota Johnson-inspired outfit, put a slightly oversized wool blazer, plaid or solid, over a black crewneck sweater and dark high-rise jeans in a straight or gentle bootcut. Black loafers keep it comfortable and heeled ankle boots dress it up; a narrow belt in the shoe color links the two halves. The fitting check I always do is to button the blazer over the sweater and reach forward. If it pulls across the back or the shoulder seam lifts, the jacket is a size too small for layering. On a petite frame, a single-breasted style with a shorter hem keeps the legs from looking cut off.
12. Laura Harrier Leather Trench And Knee-High Boots Outfit

A leather trench gets noticed, yet it asks for very little underneath. For a Laura Harrier-inspired look, choose a long trench in dark brown, oxblood or black and layer it over a fitted knit and a slim midi skirt in the same color family. The trick is that the knee-high boots disappear under the skirt hem, so the leg reads as one unbroken column, which also keeps your knees warm. Small structured bag, delicate gold jewelry. Wear the coat open or tie the belt loosely at the waist rather than buckling it tight. Faux leather costs less and skips the animal hide, but it doesn't breathe, so I'd avoid it for a long, warm day indoors. If a full-length coat feels like too much, one that ends just below the knee gives the same effect.
13. Kaia Gerber Gray Suit And Sneakers Outfit

Gray suiting looks young the moment you take away the dress shoes. For a Kaia Gerber-inspired outfit, pair a roomy charcoal blazer with straight or wide-leg trousers, a fitted white tank in warmer weather or a thin black turtleneck when it cools, and clean white or gray sneakers. A slouchy leather tote and narrow sunglasses keep it casual. The blazer and trousers don't have to be a true suit, but I hold them next to each other in daylight before committing, because a blue-gray and a brown-gray side by side look like a mistake. Hem the trousers so they break just above the sneaker and show part of the shoe; a puddled hem over a flat sneaker reads sloppy rather than relaxed.
14. Sienna Miller Barn Jacket And White Jeans Outfit

White denim doesn't need to go into storage in September. Here it gets a barn jacket in the spirit of Sienna Miller's countryside style: olive, navy or brown cotton with a corduroy collar, over a striped knit sweater. I swap bright white for cream or ecru jeans in fall, since the softer shade sits better next to brown suede ankle boots and a patterned scarf. A crossbody bag keeps your hands free. If the hem fights with the boot, cuff it once, neatly. Barn jackets are cut boxy, so I size them with the sweater on and check that the shoulders still sit flat. The one honest drawback is mud: pale denim and a walk across a wet field don't mix, so save this for paved paths and market stalls.
15. Nicole Kidman Striped Shirt And Cropped Jeans Outfit

Stripes and cropped jeans give you a full day of wear without looking scruffy by evening. Channel Nicole Kidman's approachable polish with a blue-and-white striped button-down, loosely tucked into straight cropped jeans, plus a navy cardigan or light camel coat. White leather sneakers keep it clean and a tan structured tote adds the fall neutral. Small gold hoops and a classic watch are the only detail it needs. The crop should land just above the ankle bone; an inch higher and it looks like the jeans shrank. Cropped hems shorten some legs, so if that happens to you, a higher rise and shoes with a low vamp, which shows more of the top of the foot, win back the length.
Swapping Designer Pieces for What You Can Find
The most expensive item in a celebrity outfit is rarely the one that makes it work. When I rebuild these on a real budget, I spend where the eye lands first and save everywhere else.
Worth spending on
- Outerwear. A coat or jacket covers most of the outfit for months, so good wool, decent leather or a properly cut trench repays the money.
- Boots you can walk in. Cheap boots crack at the flex point and rub at the heel, and a pair you avoid wearing is the most expensive kind.
- Tailoring. A hem on wide trousers or a sleeve shortened on a blazer often costs less than the garment and makes a basic piece look custom.
Safe to save on
- White tees, tanks and thin turtlenecks. They sit under a jacket and get replaced anyway once they stretch or yellow.
- Trend pieces like a satin slip skirt or a bold bomber. Buy them inexpensively first and see if you actually reach for them.
- Jewelry and sunglasses. Small gold hoops and simple frames read the same at a distance whatever they cost.
One practical note on fit: off-duty celebrity clothes often look oversized on purpose, but the shoulder seam still lands near the edge of the shoulder. When you size up for that slouchy effect, check that seam first. If it slides halfway down your arm, the piece will look borrowed rather than chosen.
Start With the Celebrity Formula, Not the Label
Celebrity outfits are worth studying because the formulas underneath them can be borrowed without the price tags. Brown jackets, relaxed suits, knit dresses, leather trenches and good denim cover most of a fall week, and the shoes and bag decide how dressed up each one feels. I always start by rebuilding a look from pieces you already own, then adjusting the hem, the jacket length and the proportions until it works on your body. Only after that do I suggest buying the one missing item. Pick references that match your actual routine and climate, keep your palette consistent, and getting dressed on a cold, rushed morning becomes much simpler.
